I pursued stage and entertainment as an adult, primarily inspired by Allan Sherman and Bill Cosby. Both made me realize how clever and creative one could be with comedy. This is a lovely short retrospective of a unique, quirky man. Thank you!
@@mythgreatbritain5634 Cosby WAS a GREAT COMEDIAN! Allan Sherman WAS ALSO! IF you READ about either, NEITHER was "awesome perfect"! This is DAMNED TRUE of ALL HUMAN BEINGS!
Got his first album in '62. Still have it! which includes 'Genuine copy of a fake Dior'..., My Zelda, and so much more ❤️... Fond memories. May he Rest in Peace.
First, I heard him in "The King of Queens", when Arthur dance to "Hello Muddah, hello Fadduh". Since this time, I love his music an bought all his original vinyl-record. Greatings from Bavaria, Germany
I've had his first 2 albums since the late 60's. Neither were new when I got them, but somehow, I can't remember how or where I got them from. I was in high school when he died. This is the first time I've heard about him dying.
He was a very funny and talented man. I love his songs. One is Old King Louie 😂💖. The other one is the twelve days of Christmas. He died too young at 48. Died the day before his 49th Birthday. At least his songs live forever.
Him and Vince Guaraldi seem to have quite a lot in common. Both were overnight sensations. Both are primary remembered for one song Both won Grammys Both had a divorce Both died while/after performing
It's funny - I know I'm going to be judged - but I sing it to my dogs and invent perverse lyrics (just Like Allan) 😎. But they probably don't appreciate my effort. Such a great tune. I do wonder why it's not popular.
@@Fomites Thanks for your response! I think if it got play time to the present generation, it would catch on again. Not enough humor in our uptight culture today. People would rather worship TS than have a good belly laugh.
He wrote a second book. It was published by Playboy Press under the title The Rape of the A*P*E* (***American Puritan Ethic). It is brilliant and highly insightful.
"Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh" came out the 2nd year I went to summer camp. Since I already knew what to expect at camp, it was funnier. His parodies are usually the first thing I think of when I hear the original songs.
Hi there! I’m a new subscriber. Can you please do a vid on character actor Burr DeBenning? He wasn’t super famous but he he had a long career and died around 2003ish and I can’t find any info on him.... pretty please? Thnx
"A Gift of Laughter" is not just funny (e.g., the four psychiatrists, Drs. A, B, C, and D). It tells some of the heartaches of his life (e.g., searching for his father, and then finding him).
All his albums were at the thrift store a while back ~ so why not? I've come to appreciate what I originally interpreted as "irritating" informative bio, but "ROD STERLING"?
Allan Sherman died too young! My Mother died the following year! I had several of his records (LP) and 1 45rpm. of “Crazy Downtown”one 45rpm of Crazy Downtown. I also had Hello Muddah, hello father! I found all of them to be quite hilarious! May he RI.P.😅
I'd really like a good movie made about him. Jack Black I'm thinking would be great in the role. Or if they could make Danny Devito look younger I'd like him in the role

A GREAT TALENT! Sadly, now forgotten!
We had his albums growing up. I would go to school singing his songs. The kids thought I was weird but the teachers would laugh. I love his humor.
My dad loved him. Still and all the songs to this day.
I LOVED ALLEN SHERMAN!!! SO CLEVER AND INVENTIVE.
He was so talented. Enjoyed his music so much. Lots of fun
0:13-0:23 this is the greatest 10 seconds in any biography ever.

Our boy Al needs a comeback. His brand of humor fits right in with gen-z’s.
Nice job! Keep it up!

Is this AI narration? No inflection and mispronounced words
Great video... a word-for-word readout of his Wikipedia page...
4:01 I believe that's "borscht belt", not "boar-s*** belt)
That is some of the most lifeless narration I have ever heard.
Because it's being read DIRECTLY from Wikipedia!!!!

I agree. Deathly dull.

A hugely funny book
He also wrote a musical Fig Leaves are Falling. It didn't do to well.
That book sounds sexy

That “Boar Shit” belt sounds like a messy place to visit. I’m amazed so many people enjoyed it. 🙄
He also wrote, "The Rape of the Ape: American Protestant Ethic "
any bio books on him? should make a movie
Theres two. My Zelda and My son the Author.

IF they can get the computer "fired up"!
His names Serling not Sterling

I want to see movie about Allan Sherman
And I want Paul Giamatti to play him 😁
You should make it. I'd love to watch it.
Narration is from Wikipedia article to the word
It's sad that they really didn't have any real way to treat diabetes back then. We could have had more great works from him.

Good grief lady! No fact-checking .
1:15 You were off by ten years. "I've Got a Secret" ran until **1967**. By that time however, Alan was long gone from that show.
He was a scream on two episodes of "What's My Line?" (1964 & '65)
Rod Sterling? They did it again.
The research department is top notch, eh?
Not even funny
Rod SERLING is SPINNING IN HIS GRAVE over this OBVIOUS A.I. FAILURE!

A.I.(at its' best!)
Ridiculous 🤦♂️
Do the life and sad ending of jack barry
The computer mentions the "Borshit Belt". 🤭
Taken verbatim from Wikipedia. Apart from Rod Sterling of course.
I didn't realized he died in 1973 .
Sadly, at age 48!
