    Throttle scaling is a Betaflight and OpenTX feature that lets you tame over-powered quads like some 2S tiny whoop. But the feature works on any quad! I'll show you two methods to do it, one in the Betaflight Command Line, and one in OpenTX.

    It turns out that you CAN switch the betaflight throttle limit on a switch. CurryKitten shows how here: th-cam.com/video/rwUdwUMMytI/w-d-xo.html

I've managed to get pitch/roll to be less/more effective with one slider by multiplying them in the mixer, but I am having a devil of a time using the other slider to give variable throttle authority. Keep up the good work!

    I mostly fly my mobula in my small apartment, without throttle scaling, without any problems and I've only been flying for a few months. It has definitely helped my throttle management. And I don't have to mess with betaflight. Then when I want to fly it outside I just take it out there and open it up.

    Thanks! This is very helpful. I am learning FPV with a Freestyle 2 but the only place I have to fly is in the yard and there is not a lot of room and a ton of trees. When you don't have much space, a little power seems like a lot of power. When I fly at work after the workday is over there are big fields with small trees spaced out nicely. Full power is great. At home though, I'm running 1s to slow things down but I am still sometimes finding myself looking down on trees when I didn't think I had given it that much throttle.

    I have been doing something similar for about 6 months now. I setup my throttle so that most of the range is very low, but the the very top of the throttle stick [>98%] jumps to full throttle. In other words, I have 0-75% throttle linear, and then 100% at the very top. So, for example, I cannot command 90% throttle.
    I really like this because on my 6s quad, anything over 75% throttle is just ludicrous speed anyway. I did this with my spektrum transmitter rate adjust that lets you set points on a linear graph. I made a negative linear throttle curve for the whole range except chopped it back to normal at the very top.

    @johnwhite1103 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I use the openTX method on the same switch as my flip over after crash, that way my throttle is limited to whatever percentage I want but when I switch to flip over after crash, betaflight is reading a 100% throttle to flip and not my limited amount. That extra amount of power to flip is especially helpful with whoops.

      I remembered the most simple way of switching between Rateprofiles; by using Stick Commands.
      There's literally nothing else to setup on your TX or Betaflight beyond a 2nd Rateprofile for the lower throttle.
      edit: Scratch that, Joshua pointed out it changes PID profiles not Rate profiles.

    I do the TX change via a mix instead of inputs and use a pot to change the amount. This way I dial up the throttle as required.
    With this I can test hover a very powerful quad in a small area with almost no chance of a runaway. I set the power so low it barely hovers on max throttle.
    The mix is:
    CHx:IThr Weight(100%)
    *= S1 Weight(50%) Offset 50%
    += S1 Weight(50%) Offset -50%
    What this does is it changes S1 into a percentage (0-100) and multiplies the throttle by that scale. The next part uses the same S1 percentage to lower the min throttle so the base is always -100.
    I also remove trim from my throttle (so that the any bump to the trims does not change throttle output). Quad's never need trims.

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I came up with a way to do it using global functions and the input line, but it was hella complicated. Your way is far simpler.

    Hey Joshua, great minds thinking a like and all that, I did a video about this very subject earlier today - gives me confidence that I was on the right lines if you're talking about it as well :) Some people may have already mentioned it, but as throttle_limit stuff is part of the rateprofile, so it's easy to switch different throttle limits around this way. You could use the adjustment tab, but in my example (I was using the X-Lite and had run out of switches) I simply used the Betaflight OSD to switch rateprofiles - so very easy to move your limits for inside/outside (in the case of the Mobula7 at least)

    • @licensetodrive9930
      @licensetodrive9930 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The easiest way to switch between Rateprofiles is by using Stick Commands - don't need to go into the Betaflight OSD or setup a switch on your TX & corresponding Betaflight setting.

    What I did on my Mobula7 was to simply move the throttle MID to 0.00 and then to add throttle EXPO(between 0.55 and 0.35 depending on skill level) in BetaFlight - now low throttle is nice and tame but still have full throttle on full stick deflection....so could essentially fly in and outdoors with the single throttle setting.(I don't have another switch on my DX6i to add the throttle switch the way you did) ...If all that makes sense...;P

    Hahahahahah Holy ole Whoop,,Joshua! I will have to watch Your vid a few more times as i just received my Mobula2 and Taranis QX7 today. At 63 years young,,,im gona tone er down a little bit.( the whoop that is) I will take Your word for it, as this ole dog aint ever gona understand how they cram all that techy adjustable stuff into a tiny flight controller. Not to mention the complexity of rc transmitters we use to control are models, which i fear that someday i won't be able to find my way back out to the main menu. all foolishness aside,,,I want to say a BIG ThankYou for sharing Your knowledge in such a way that even i can ALMOST understand. Lol. Keep up the great work. Again,,,ThankYou Joshua! Rudy in cold Moncton NB Canada.

    Hi Joshua, maybe this is some useful info. The throttle limit in Betaflight is assigned to a rateprofile. So if you would set up 2 or more identical rate profiles but change the throttle limits between the different profiles, then you can easily switch between the different profiles via OSD. Or if you use the "adjustments tab" in betaflight you can even put it on a switch. This is how you could easily switch between a "indoor" mode and "outdoor" mode of your quad (not only 2S whoops).

      This is a great tip. I didn't realize they tied the throttle limit to the rate profile.

    Hi Joshua, great information for beginners.
    But one thing I want to mention is, using 3-pos switch to change the throttle scale, by only using SC-UP and SC-MID, if you accidently switched to SC-DOWN your throttle output will be constant zero which means 50% throttle. This might shot your quad to the moon.
    In this case I suggest to use !SC-UP instead of SC-MID, or put another 3rd scale on SC-DOWN.

      Arigato Gozaimasu! That's also what I had in mind! OpenTX has a thousand ways to program stuff but a few are perfectly functional.

    Hi Joshua, thanks for this video.
    I was wondering if you could make an updated video using taranis qx7, because when I tried to follow and adapt this step by step I found out that the interface of the Mixer page is very different
    Thanks for your excelent job 🙂👍
