  • The throttle limit commands are a feature introduced in Betaflight 3.4 which come in handy for scaling down the range of your throttle stick. Let's checkout how to apply this to the Mobula7, although it can obviously be used on any quad.

    Thanks a lot for this video (and all of the others)! I made three profiles which I now can switch with my left potentiometer (taranis X7). Since the mobula peeps when the profile changes it's just great.
    As a rookie I'm very grateful that people like you make such great vids. It helps me a lot. It's actually the first time I could use the potentiometer plus it's the first time I modified the "Adjustments" tab. So now it makes sense what this tab is all about. And I also copied your settings since it looks like you have tuned your mobula (yaw, super rate :)

    Super daddy, i tried that throttle limit thing on my 6S 7" midrange mini quad and i have to say that now it's way better to fly it because before it was hovering around 25% throttle and my props were acting like they were about to explode when i passed 75% throttle lol

    Always wondered how that worked. I do it a different way on my beta 75. I set the throttle curve at about 0.45 to 0.3 expo and put the digital idle way up. This works really well indoors and really badly outdoors. Indoors though it gives you all the resolution at the throttle you need and the curve feels much more like my 5" with the steep ramp up covering the weedy throttle and giving the quad grip in the air.

    • @CurryKitten
      @CurryKitten  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah - I heard a few people talking about quite a few different ways of doing similar things - "massive throttle expo" was one that kept repeating, but I didn't like the idea of it. Give this one a try - the reason I like it is because it's an easy swap from inside to outside. I like things where I don't have to faff around too much

    Great video - Now that we are almost in BF 4.3 how can you set all 6 rate profiles to a switch or a potentiometer?

  • @AndreaHaku
    @AndreaHaku 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Very interesting and I'm applying that my "racing" 5" to make it easier to flight for example when gates are close together and you never reach maximum speed. So the throttle cut can be adjusted based on track (in your case for indoor)
    P.S. in the "adjustment" page you can do set everything in one line covering the whole range, and if you have for example a 3 position switch, it'll switch to rate profile 1/2/3 based on the switch position.
    P.P.S. you can do the same directly on OpenTX by adjusting Throttle input weight and offset ;) So if you want to cut 50% the throttle you set the weight to 50 and the offset to -50. That's my preferred way as I can adjust it whatever you want on the field without using BF.

    • @CurryKitten
      @CurryKitten  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks - yes, that's another good idea, potentially giving yourself more resolution on the stick when racing a tight course. Thanks for the extra info - I've only used the adjustments tab once before (for doing in flight tuning) and I have to say I found it all a little bit counter-intuitive. It felt like I should be able to do things on a single line, but it never worked. Maybe it got better. And yes, I was deliberately ignoring ways of doing it on the radio as - despite the perception that most people are on a Taranis - the people who then shout "booo, I can't do this" because they are on FlySky/Spectrum/Futaba is surprisingly large. So I went with something that is universal (cue people complaiing that I didn't cover Flight1/Kiss/etc) :)

    • @CurryKitten

      Not using the betaflight throttle limit, but you can have multiple profiles and then switch between them. With OpenTX you can make the radio do something similar and so scale it using a pot. • @joellaverdiere
    @joellaverdiere 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great suggestion. I'll be trying that out for sure. I have a question however. I only have 250m 1s lipos, and I was wondering - if I created a wiring harness to run two 1s lipos in series to create a "500mah" 1s, is that possible instead of adjusting rates in Betaflight for running 2s? Second, is that even worth it? What is a scaled down throttle for 2s vs 100% available throttle for a 1s setup (with 2 - 1s lipos)?

    • @CurryKitten
      @CurryKitten  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      "It depends" is the slightly unhelpful short answer, and to expand a bit. The Mobula7, will take a 1s lipo by messing around with the existing series cable (it's actually a parallel cable you need to create a single 500mah 1s from 2 x 250mah ones) so if you were to create a second harness to plug into the existing cabling, it might look a bit busy. Having flown 1s with full power and 2s with a reduced throttle limit - it's easier and more flexible to use the throttle limit as you can change this exactly to the percentage you like (and it saves on wiring)

    • @joellaverdiere
      @joellaverdiere 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CurryKitten Thanks for all your thoughts and clarification on the parallel cable required for what I was proposing. The flexibility of throttle limit on 2s makes sense as well. Cheers!

      Could be, or it was already thought of. Or maybe the one that should have been included with yours, was accidentally left out. The idea of making it capable of 1S and 2S use is pretty neat, although the quad flies better on 2S, and the batteries also don't get as hot as when used separately, instead of in series.

    Hey Curry, im an acro guy and never did angle or horizon mode until i got the mobula7. It just flies better indoors in angle. • @CurryKitten
      @CurryKitten  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm the same - it's very difficult to fly acro indoors - there's just not enough space. Interesting question - I think it's about just how much power it puts into bringing you back to level when you let go of the stick, but I'm not sure, so time permitting, I'll have a look and may do a video :)

    • @trickertinman
      @trickertinman 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CurryKitten after trying different values I found that the higher the strength, the stronger it will bring the quad back to auto level, kind of like increasing P gain. Transition is for horizon mode and determines when the transition to acro is, the lower, the faster it turns to acro with less stick movements

    • @trickertinman
      @trickertinman 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CurryKitten I think I found the perfect combination of being able to fly with stability as well as the occasional flip and roll. I now use horizon mode and got it flying exactly like my angle mode by changing the transition to the max, which is 200. So that the sticks feel exactly like angle mode, but if I go to the very extreme at 100% it will flip and roll on command. You can also lower the strength value to smoothen the recovery from flips and rolls. Never thought I could do fast forward flight indoors while barrel rolling over my kitchen table or front flipping down my flight of stairs. It's amazing lol.

    • @CurryKitten
      @CurryKitten  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't know is the quick answer - based on me not being able to find anything on the "throttle travel lmits" there's obviously travel limit on other channels, but the problem here with the throttle is that it needs to go from zero and scale up - which is often different to channels that have their neutral position in the mid-point. Joshua Bardwell put a video up about using a slider to change the throttle which was actually pretty complex with the amount of offsets used. As far as the flight time - yes, you get more as you are not really hammering it. I was getting less outside where I could really open her up on the full 2s power vs the reduced throttle inside the house

      I've noticed this happening just recently in the last few quads I've looked at. I'm not sure if it's the version of the betaflight configurator, or the firmware on the FC itself. As a quick workaround, you can select the profile from the quad itself, leave it there and then go back in to betaflight to make the changes.

      Says "STAB" in the OSD at the bottom, so that's angle mode. Something having too much power is kind of the point of this video. If you change the throttle limit (You can now do this in the Betaflight configurator (no CLI commands needed) then you can easily limit the power to 50%, 30% of normal - whatever you need. Having a constant "telemetry lost, telemetry recovered" is something that can happen when you have the radio in close proximity to the model - the TX overwhelms the receiver. Try moving the model and radio further apart and see if that cures the issue.

    • @CurryKitten
      @CurryKitten  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Generally speaking, if you've swapped the motors over, but the problem remains in the same position, then it's the ESC. To check there's no logic in the flight controller stopping the motor from spinning up, go into the motors tab in betaflight (props off obviously) and use the slider to attempt to spin each motor in turn to see if the motor spins up or not. I'm assuming you are using Dshot in this quad, if for any reason you are on oneshot or multishot, then try doing the ESC calibration first.

      @@CurryKitten thanks for the reply mate,when i go into the motor tab and use the slider for it does the same intermittent power problem,how do i calibrate the ESC ? sorry to be a pain

      Ok, I hadn't clicked you said it was a Mobula, which means it should be using DShot which doesn't require a motor calibration. Double check this by going to the configuration tab and making sure your ESC/Motor protocol is set to DShot600. If that's the case, and you've already moved motors (and hence you'll have double checked that your soldering is all intact and good) then it's possible that something like a fet has gone on the ESC board rendering one ESCs a bit dead. The only thing I'd say though is normally when you've got a motor that's kind of twitching and not turning properly it's because one of the 3 connections to it isn't there. So do go back and checked/recheck/retest that first. Failing that, I'd replace the ESC board

    Kind of off topic but not really, when I set my horizon and beeper switch they don't work on the quad and don't turn yellow when I'm in the range on betaflight. If someone knows why and can help me before I try to set a rate profile switch that'd be appreciated

      So you can see the little pointer moving in the display in modes, but it doesn't change? This is generally what happens when you have set the mode but haven't saved it yet - did you definitely do the save part ?

      @@CurryKitten lmao, thanks man. It was so simple I never would have noticed. Haha. I've been going to config and save+reboot. It's my first time on betaflight if u haven't guessed. Thanks again man😂

    Did Joshua Bardwell just still your idea for his channel?

    • @CurryKitten
      @CurryKitten  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Haha, great minds and all that - simply coincidental, with 2s whoops becoming the thing lots of people have given a bit of thought about how to bring that extra power under control. It's nice to know that we've come up with the same solution, even if (ahem) Joshua didn't realise that the throttle_limit stuff was part of the rateprofiles :-)

    How come your FC CPU usage is that low? Mine wonders at 50%.

    • @CurryKitten

      I did notice it was a bit higher than I wanted just as is. I can't remember if I'd turned anything off from default (I'm away so can't check) but it's one of the things to do if it's up that high. I always try and stay below 30%, 50% is a bit too high

      I think Josh just got caught up in his very complex mixing idea... which is great fun to solve, but doesn't make for an easy knowledge transfer. I used to use PBF's videos all the time - he's much missed.

    Awesome solution! By the way, no disrespect intended, just simple curiosity, but what is a "CurryKitten" anyway? I mean, I realize that's your screen name but what is it derived from originally?

      The story behind CurryKitten is quite similar if you ever watched Painless360's video about how he got his name. It was simply a case of the names you want not being available and trying everything to find one. I can't remember what it was, some email or chat client, but the name "Wayne" was taken and after I tried lots of other things that weren't available I tried putting in the names of my then cats which were "Madras" and "Korma" (who are names after curries) after this didn't work I eventually link Curry and Kitten together which was available - and that's stuck ever since :)

      CurryKitten - That’s a fun story and in that many of had crossed before. I just gave up and tried my real name and that worked for me, but I am just a viewer/supporter. BTW, there is now a unique token used in cryptocurrency called a “CurryKitten.” I found that by accident it made me curious. Thank you for sharing your story.

    Can you use the jumper cable on other 2s whoops like the beta65x? Don't want to short any drones.

      Yes - the Beta65X uses the same sort of series cable, so you can use the jumper to make it a 1s machine

      Yes - the rates and expo's used to be in the regular profiles, but now this only seems to contain the actual pids whilst all rates/expos/etc belong in the rateprofiles
