Here's the homework I noted down from the end of the conversation: 1) Think about something that you want to do, and then write down what's getting in the way of you doing it Key: Write whatever you think of. Don't skip ahead to number 2. 2) Note: chances are your first answer will be cognitive. When you think about doing it, do you feel any emotions or physical sensations that come up as you bring yourself to do it? Try to get as close as you can to doing it, and then write down what comes up -- what are the kinds of resistances that keep you in place? Key: Focus on writing down the emotions and sensations you feel
@@eddypasatrino2039 Maybe ask yourself where these emotions come from, and why is it they act as a barrier. For example, someone might feel anxiety about calling a girl, but the question could be "why does this feeling mean I will not even try?". The first step is becoming aware of the barriers, the next step would be questioning them, atleast thats my take ;) good luck
this a good example of a great talk because the person listening is actually 'listening' and asking/questioning the right things. INSANE VIDEO - if u take in and listen carefully. It took both to make this video wat it is and how much effect it can have on someone. Props to devin for being honest and making him elaborate on things he didnt understand because it helped me understand the same things with much deeper meaning.

Hey, I just wanna say I represent that portion of the community who never says anything during streams and mostly listens and says thanks once so, thanks. I've been listening to these videos on a daily basis during work and its really opened my eyes to a lot of internal confrontation that I've faced about going forward In my life and can openly admit that gaming has been the cure all for years. I'm turning 30 this upcoming year and have not found my sense of duty or purpose. But this video has really resonated with me and I havent felt this compelled to actually challenge what I'm thinking in application to what I'm hearing in a very long time and it feels good. And I just wanted to say thank you for everything you're doing and it is a fulfilling purpose, as there is a huge amount of people in the same boat that I see even in my every day life that I would have never guessed have these issues. Now i just need to find a good therapist nearby who can help guide all these thoughts lol.
They were talking about the ineffectiveness of external factors on fixing your internal state. A therapist will simply rephrase your insecurities in a way that you will consciously understand, basically what Dr. K is doing here for free. Maybe not on a personal level, but you can still extract the relevant parts for yourself and try to work on them. Point is, you can start right now, you don't need to wait to get a therapist to do it for you.
This is a really insightful talk. I saw it live and listened to the TH-cam video today. Will listen to it again to really chew on the ideas in my head.
A lot of things resonated with me in this talk. Especially what you said about different kinds of intelligence and being the kind of person that's good at learning fast but also forgets things really easily. I feel that my own manifestation of impostor syndrome is a byproduct of this - I compare myself to other people that are much better than me at remembering or articulating things and I feel inadequate and stupid by comparison, when I can't even remember the main plot of a book I read a month ago. It's almost frustrating when I want to give an example and I forget the details half-way through, even though I know the idea that I'm trying to convey. I also wholeheartedly agree with the idea that external guidelines are not particularly helpful to an individual "out of the box". You need to process the information through your own internal filter, see what fits and adjust accordingly. Finally, thoughts about anxiety and how they manifest and prevent us from acting hit very close to home. The thing I struggle with is that I want to be perceived as cool and likeable, and know on a logical level that if I answer the teacher's question I will look like a nerd know-it-all, so I rarely bother. I know this because I have the same gut reaction when someone else does it. Even though I can overwrite that thought and have no problem interacting with the person, I still feel it has a lingering effect, sort of like you are already stigmatized as the bookworm and you have to work really hard to prove otherwise. So I guess I'm subconsciously trying to "prevent" that impression which manifests as anxiety every time there is a possibility I will be perceived as "uncool". The worst thing is I don't even know if my assumptions are empirically true, I only base them on my reactions. Realistically nobody will come and confirm them for me, so I perpetuate this behavior on a subconscious level. I guess I haven't come to terms with my "suffering layer" yet. A great concept which really made sense to me and will definitely investigate further. Many thanks!
How does this only have 35k views!? Can't believe I'm just now getting around to listen to this. 10/10 as the content always is from Dr.K and Devin Nash.

This is SO COOL. Thanks to both of you for breaking this new concepts and different perspectives down for me. The whole video felt like a path of self discovery. Realizing stuff in ways I could've never thought of by myself despite having a very analytical mind.
I know I'm late to the party, not sure if anyone is going to read this. One thing you said about school triggered me when you said teachers teach for the dumbest student, that is not true they teach for the average student, school fails both ends intelligent and students that struggle to understand. Love the conversations Dr K💞
I believe talking about one's own experiences and struggles will help the world. Devin..talk about that imposter syndrome dude..it would help so many of us
I think Dr. Daniel G. Amen has made an effort to link individualized brain scans to psychological issues, and uses the biological domain (e.g. food) for some solutions.
On the topic of dreams, I think in speech so I would be inclined to say that I do not think during a dream. I am, however, experiencing things during that dream. I am certainly not conscious of the reality of my situation while I'm dreaming (that I'm sleeping in bed), so is dreaming a "no mind no consciousness" state or an "active mind no consciousness" state?
I liked the conversation but had to turn down the volume a lot since Dr K was yelling over his guest every time the guest interrupted him while he was speaking.

Probably yes and no. The thing about an average face is that all faces are average!! There is no Platonic Ideal to look to. YOU are the average person
I like Dr. K, but I find again and again that it seems he doesn't understand the thing about average food consumption. It doesn't say you should x amount of food per day, it says on average people benefit the most from the x amount of food and it maximizes your chances of getting everything you need. Are they sure it suits you 100%? No. But the chances are still higher than any other amount.
