Pro tip: If you are going to buy a PS4 Pro, make sure you buy one made 2018 or later with the small power cord connector. This is guaranteed to be the thermally improved model and will not sound "like a jet engine". That's what I did just recently. Mine is very quiet, a little louder than my PS5. If you want it AS quiet as a PS5, you will have to replace the thermal paste with Arctic 4 or similar and most of all, replace the thermal pads with cut-to-fit Grizzlies. I will probably do a video of this on my channel shortly.
I got both brotha and they bout sound like jet engines !! Actually my smaller power cord one randomly shuts off or says over heat! The bigger power cord one still works solid ! What I did was take it to my shop grabbed my air hose and blew the turd out of it so much dust came flowing out smh !!
I bought mine in August 2018. I bought the Spider-Man Limited Edition PS4 Pro console bundle. Still use it today and still have and can use my original glacier white destiny console if I want to. Also, the PS4 Pro can support up 18tb storage if you know what you are doing.
@@CarsandCats , Upgrade internal drive to 2tb and hook up two 8tb external hard drives. Now, yes you can have both external drives connected to the PS4 at the same time but only one of them can be active. All you have to do is go to settings, devices,USB devices, and click which one you want to be active and then when ready you can go switch which is active again and go play. Essentially, with a USB 3.0-3.1 hub you could have more storage than that.
If someone has this problem and doesn't want to take it completely apart what you want to do is remove the top cover. Take a flashlight and shine it into the fan housing towards the power supply. If you look in there and see a wall of dust that's a big part of your problem. The issue with Pro and OG PS4 is with the fan housing and radiator. The fins are really close together and they create a wall of dust. I have a 1st gen Pro and that thing is loud when playing demanding games like GoW Ragnarok but otherwise isn't bad. Like other commenters said the 2nd gen Pro is much quieter.
I just installed GoW Ragnarök and even before reaching the main menu I thought there was something seriously wrong with my PS4 Pro because no other game has caused it to get that unbelievably loud. It’s the first time I’ve thought about even opening up the console to clean it, but I think I’ll have to at this point. How loud should the Pro get with Ragnarök even if the console is totally clean?
While not a ps4 pro. I recently cleaned out my original ps4, it was surprisingly easy to clean out and change thermal paste with using the ifixit guide. I now love watching people clean out devices, it’s very therapeutic seeing a dead console or dirty console looks like it new. Now it sounds like a normal console (not silent but so much quieter) whereas before it was very loud. Awaiting a ssd to arrive so I can replace the hdd to make it run even faster.
IT Technician here, allow me to give a pro tip: don't use Arctic silver thermal paste on such devices, worse choice and cheap. If you really wanna take care your stuff use something like Thermal Grizzly or similar, don't cheap out for 4-5€ or USD, otherwise in one year you will open again the device, to clean it and replace the paste.
Thermal grizzly is not a good choice. Yes it will have lets say 2 Celsius better temps but long Term the mx 4 or mx 6 is better. Arctic silver is a bad choice probably you have Problem when remove the heatsink again.
I would add to swap out the HDD with an SSD. It loads in games almost three times faster. Some are close to 5x faster. Bloodborne is about 2.5~3x faster in loading maps (similarly with all Soulsborne map loads), Dragon Quest XI is about 3~5x depending on the map, Dragon Quest Builders 1 takes about 1/2 the time to build each new world, and Builders 2 loads every map change with the ship about twice as fast.

To share my experience. I got a ps4 pro bundled with GT Sport during it's release. I've often just cleaned the fan by opening up the lid because at some point my ps4 made noise with almost all modern games and cleaning the fan never really made that much difference. I even used my PS4 Pro with the lid slightly put aside which works somewhat. My tip is to first open up the ps4 pro until you need to remove the power supply (DON'T remove the cable, keep it attached to the console as this is why many people destroy their console) and clean every section properly and especially the bottom side of the ps4 pro, heatsink and fan. Mine was never really dusty tbh so I didn't expected my ps4 to be so quiet after that its been 2 months now. I assume that even not much dust affects how quick the fan turns on. Replacing thermal paste isn't really worth the stuff that can go wrong with your model. Im surviving until ps5 pro :p

Wait till you hear more about ps5 Turns out it's not doing 4k either. Just 1440p with dlss upscaling to 4k Ps5 can do native 4k at 30 fps. But if you are doing 4k at 60 it's just upscaled 1440
You show the main motherboard coming out with the heat sink, but on mine there are a couple screws under the motherboard that holds the heat sink it. you have to remove the 2 CPU cover screws and take the motherboard off from the heat sink first.
A very good guide indeed, thank you. I would rather recommend Corsair xtm50, I think it performs better then arctic silver and also Samsung EVO ssd even if they are more expensive. But your options are also good either way :-)
With respect i say: Just put God of War on the Main menu and leave it for 10 minutes with super sample enabled, after that came and say some update on your video showing the results. Believe me it takes more than fresh thermal paste to solve the jet engine. By default its the design choice of sony for the ps4 pro and it sounds like that period. Remove the both covers and you have the most silent console ever.
I can confirm after completely stripping my ps4 replacing the thermal paste with thermal grizzly and new thermal pads it’s stupidly quiet now blockage on the heat sync is the biggest problem with them you cannot easily clean the console without being confident in taking apart the full console oh and I’ve ran god of war ragnarok at 4k for over 6 hours of intensive gaming nice and cool and quiet
great video, which model is the ps4 you fixed? mine is the model 71xxx, I'll do this and update if the ps4 makes less noise, at this moment it's like 56 db, loud as F, hope changing the thermal paste makes it bearable at least
It’s honestly not too bad if you watch a couple tutorials on dissembling PS4/PS4 Pro. Give yourself at least 3-4 hours if you are going to do a deep clean w/repasting. Also look to get some compressed air or a way to remove the dust you will find in your console along w/some good thermal paste, q-tips, & 90% isopropyl alcohol for cleaning the heat sink and gpu.
I have a launch day ps4 still working and doesn't jet engine to much I did clean it and repaste it about 2 years ago, the biggest problem I have with it is my eject button goes off on its own or stays pushed in until I remove and reinstall the bottom cover until it's fine again and the disk rollers not fully ejecting or pulling a disk in that's it.
I just bought a ps4 pro from a kid for 150 3 controllers 10 games... turned it on and all I heard was the jet engine all the time. I legit just took it apart to the psu blew out the radiator cooler and cleaned the fan with alcohol and thin qtips 40+ lol. And no more sound of a jet engine.
also, gotta say... love how you called it a "Sanity Check", lol but yeah... you autta use GC Extreme, I open up my PS4 pro Frequently to clean out and re-paste if needed... just recently redone it the other day because the fans were gettin pretty loud again, opened it up to discover I last used Arctic Silver because it was all i had at the time... (Wont be doin that again) over the years I've tried and tested many thermal compounds, now I wont use anything but GC extreme... i swear down by the stuff, so take this as my random Recommendation.
idk what people mean by the ps5 being so much quieter? i have both a ps4 and 5 slim and i was not impressed with with the ps5 in terms of noise. was the 4 pro that much louder?
yeah took mine apart a few times last times there was a dry spot on the apu and didnt last 5 seconds after i put it back together now it runs loud af says its 79/80c
The PS4 was a very bad design....I bought one that was overheating for $20. I took it apart and cleaned it alllll out and rethermal paste it. It stays running but still loud as hell!
Didn't fix anything cleaned thoroughly, replaced thermal paste, and replaced the fan. Still have that f'ing noise. I think it's just a poor design by Play Station. Makes me not want to buy a PS5.
You can add the best thermal paste and pads and it'll still sound like a jet engine. I know this from personal experience. The only way to stop it from reviewing up to the highest speed is by leaving the top off. That's how I play god of war ragnarok and Warzone on it and not have it rev to the highest speed. My Spiderman edition ps4 pro tho. That thing is a champ, but I bet my first get ps4 pro will outlive it because the first gen for sure runs cooler thanks to that jet engine fan keeping it very cool at the cost of the annoying sound to the user.
I got a used ps4 and it's making a lot of noise, I managed to take off the top cover and I've never seen this much dust, I'm scared to disassemble it more maybe it's better to take it to someone

Could of done with a before and after decibel test. I may give this a go. If I’d have known the Pro was this loud I would have purchased the slim.
Pro is better than slim by a long shot.
Unfortunately this guy was broken and I didn't want to cause irreparable damage
@@GearsAndTech I’ve decided to return it and stick with the Nintendo. Appreciate your bid though it was very informative.
@@larrysellers7891 PS4 Pro is well worth it if you can get one with a firmware of 9.00 or lower as then you can mod it to play any PS4/PS2/PSP/PS1 games for free!
Sony false advertised the Pro when they said 4k, but it's really only a 1440p console with a settings mode for 1080p. that's why i bought the Slim, because there's no difference with the Pro.
Wait till you hear more about ps5
Turns out it's not doing 4k either. Just 1440p with dlss upscaling to 4k
Ps5 can do native 4k at 30 fps.
Yes. Thats true
A very good guide indeed, thank you. I would rather recommend Corsair xtm50, I think it performs better then arctic silver and also Samsung EVO ssd even if they are more expensive. But your options are also good either way :-)
Thanks for sharing!
Depends on the game. Red dead redemption 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn were the noisy ones especially on the PS4 Pro. On my PS5 they are whisper quiet.
Ps5 is quiet on every game
How do you undo the clips? You completely skipped that part when you took off the screws
Honestly i love the jet sound 🤣🙈
It's comforting
Thanks for the video, made it look easy! Around 9:45, there is mention of thermal pads. Do you recall the dimensions of the pads?
I don't recall
They are 1mm thick
With respect i say: Just put God of War on the Main menu and leave it for 10 minutes with super sample enabled, after that came and say some update on your video showing the results. Believe me it takes more than fresh thermal paste to solve the jet engine. By default its the design choice of sony for the ps4 pro and it sounds like that period. Remove the both covers and you have the most silent console ever.
After the video I ran some more intensive games and still no jet engine.
I don't have gow though so I can't test that one. I'll take your word for it
@@GearsAndTechi have god of war and i have replaced the cooling paste. It’s super quiet. So yeah it works
Thanks for confirming. That makes sense and seems in line with my testing in other games
@@dannyhall676 It's the thermal pads that do the trick BTW.
great video, which model is the ps4 you fixed?
mine is the model 71xxx, I'll do this and update if the ps4 makes less noise, at this moment it's like 56 db, loud as F, hope changing the thermal paste makes it bearable at least
any update?
If I install a Samsung 2t or higher would it make it faster and perform even way better ??
Possibly
Id like to send mine in to you and have it cleaned and redone on the thermal paste if it needs it
Thanks for watching. Unfortunately it's not a service I really offer.
The heat off my ps4 pro turns my room into a sweatbox
Yeah, it has to go somewhere
how much did this service cost?
Unfortunately it's not a service I really offer. But there are usually guys on marketplace that would do it for $50 or so
Same thing wrong with mine but don't have the money or tools to fix yet
Arctic Silver 5?
Good job 👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you! Cheers!
You used arctic silver 5 which is conductive. Definitely more is better/ squishing out is a big NO NO.
Thanks for sharing
Dont spread lies.Mx 5 is not conductive.
Splitgate is free and intensive.
I don’t mind my turbo jet 4000 🤷🏽♂️
I have a launch day ps4 still working and doesn't jet engine to much I did clean it and repaste it about 2 years ago, the biggest problem I have with it is my eject button goes off on its own or stays pushed in until I remove and reinstall the bottom cover until it's fine again and the disk rollers not fully ejecting or pulling a disk in that's it.
I brought PS5 worked out for the best now I play PS4 on PS5 better graphics it's was worth trading the PS4 pro
Yes
I just bought a ps4 pro from a kid for 150 3 controllers 10 games... turned it on and all I heard was the jet engine all the time. I legit just took it apart to the psu blew out the radiator cooler and cleaned the fan with alcohol and thin qtips 40+ lol. And no more sound of a jet engine.
That's great to hear
GC Extreme is so much better for a Thermal compound,
with only a 48hr Curing time but you usually see instant results anyway
also,
gotta say...
love how you called it a "Sanity Check", lol
but yeah...
you autta use GC Extreme,
I open up my PS4 pro Frequently to clean out and re-paste if needed...
just recently redone it the other day because the fans were gettin pretty loud again,
opened it up to discover I last used Arctic Silver because it was all i had at the time...
(Wont be doin that again)
over the years I've tried and tested many thermal compounds,
now I wont use anything but GC extreme...
i swear down by the stuff,
so take this as my random Recommendation.
I'll keep it in mind
I have a ps4 prp i clean it and changed the paste and its same as loud
Could we please just see one cleaning video without a speech attached to it 😂
No way
I’m pretty good at taking things apart like my consoles but once I got to the cpu part of the ps4 slim I couldn’t get it off
You need to undo the screws on the back holding the cooler plate. Then pop off
idk what people mean by the ps5 being so much quieter? i have both a ps4 and 5 slim and i was not impressed with with the ps5 in terms of noise. was the 4 pro that much louder?
4 pro was a lot louder
Why do you keep calling it "solder paste" since it's a Thermal paste? :D
Thinking about too many things I suppose
Good catch
Good content
Should i buy bx500 which is without dram or mx500 which is with dram. I want to know if the ps4 can utilise the dram
whichever is cheaper. the difference would be negligible.
I play with headphones on . A vacuum cleaner can be running in the room and it would not bother me .
Me too.
yeah took mine apart a few times last times there was a dry spot on the apu and didnt last 5 seconds after i put it back together now it runs loud af says its 79/80c
Quiet you mean?
The PS4 was a very bad design....I bought one that was overheating for $20. I took it apart and cleaned it alllll out and rethermal paste it. It stays running but still loud as hell!
Didn't fix anything cleaned thoroughly, replaced thermal paste, and replaced the fan. Still have that f'ing noise. I think it's just a poor design by Play Station. Makes me not want to buy a PS5.
What thermal paste are you used ?
You can add the best thermal paste and pads and it'll still sound like a jet engine. I know this from personal experience.
The only way to stop it from reviewing up to the highest speed is by leaving the top off.
That's how I play god of war ragnarok and Warzone on it and not have it rev to the highest speed.
My Spiderman edition ps4 pro tho. That thing is a champ, but I bet my first get ps4 pro will outlive it because the first gen for sure runs cooler thanks to that jet engine fan keeping it very cool at the cost of the annoying sound to the user.
The fans rev up for a reason. Their job is to keep it cool first. Not be quiet
About how much would this cost at a repair shop or the like?
Probably $100
I got a used ps4 and it's making a lot of noise, I managed to take off the top cover and I've never seen this much dust, I'm scared to disassemble it more maybe it's better to take it to someone
If you're not comfortable then yes, a professional should do it
Wat actual light should the pro produce while playing games?
White light
Would this still work if you do this by usb
Not really the same thing.
But, if I don't have my "jet engine" sound how can I enjoy Ace Combat?
It's a question we all struggle with
Could you make mine sound good too
If you follow the steps I did yours will be fine too
I used to smell used console’s for a dirty/smoky smell before I decided I wanted to buy it. The game shop clerk tolerated me.
its a totally legit test!
You can't say it's fixed until you play an intensive game
Trust me, it's fixed
My ps4 pro is giving a strong odor of like smell why would that be? its not burning more like smoker.
Something is getting hot
@@GearsAndTech Thank You for your replay i got this ebay 2 years i have not cleaned or used it but when ever i open the box their a strong plastic smell its CUH-7016B on cfw . I am going to put in put in box Isopropanol 99.9% and leave to soak in this for few days to see if that helps smell. Its very strange.
Never stick your fingers inside a power supply!
Exactly
If I install the regular HDD back into to my ps4 pro do I have to install the software again on it with the USB drive or can I just take out the ssd and install the old hdd back
You can plug the old one back in as long as you don't do a system update while the drive is out
If i have a 5in1 can i just plug my usb into my phone on dex, and download the software for my ssd, since i dont have a pc?@GearsAndTech
What is the name of the paste please
Link in description
❤Thanks Bro❤🎉
No problem
Dont have the tools to open it,the one that requires a hollow thing to unscrew it
It makes it harder when you don't have the tools
Hey #gears and tech can I send my ps4 over to you so you can fix it I understand if not I don’t think my brother has messed with the ps4 I completely understand if not
I did this and after three months it started making a lot of noise again Did I do something wrong????
No, potentially it's just dusty now and needs to be blown out
Thank you very much!!
What I want to send mines in?
Yeah well when they have the the heat sinking solution they should actually take a piece of fiberglass and put it in between like a sandwich because that does help it out a lot trust me I know I owned every single system that came out for
Interesting
That sht was a deep embankment into that water ... not good judgment on this one buddy. Need go watch Tokyo Drift again 😂
Not a bad idea
when making vids like dis ppl gotta launch god of war
I did this with my ps4, the jet sound completely gone and it's quieter than a ps5 and certainly faster that other players using ps4, only problem I have now is all my controllers keep developing stick drift even a brand new controller so it's not the controllers themselves causing it, any ideas anyone?
Has to be controllers. Ps4 only takes the signal and uses it. Can't introduce drift on ps4 side
Try wired and see if it changes
Or wireless and see if it changes
@@GearsAndTech it's not just the analogues though it's every button, sometimes the controller doesn't do a thing even though it's on, so I swap controllers whith the ps4 still on and start to get response again
Could you try to fix my ps5 ?
What's wrong with it?
@Gears and Tech
I customized it cosmetically, it worked for about a year after that , then one day it just wouldn't except an update, did some research and was told it was because of the disk drive not working, so I replaced all the ribbon cables, but still no luck , now it's stuck in safety mode, I've tried to reinstall through the flash drive but still no luck.
If you are really interested I can send it to you .
@@GearsAndTech this it here

I care about everyone
I have 1gbps internet speed tested it all the time runs steady around 800mbps est. My PS4 pro never had a lound fan until call of duty vanguard strange. Also is acts like it wants to freeze up on the ui it's nuts I've changed setting restarted it etc no trouble shooting seems to fix these issues and I have tons of space left for game installs and nothing's downloading with the slow and freezing on the ui screen just navigating the menu it does this not in gameplay though any ideas?
Change the thermal paste.
lol mine won’t even get past the screen saying its checking the storage for damage sadly to say there’s damage 😂😂😂😢😢😢😅😅😂😂
Yeah, swap the hdd with an ssd and start over
Artic Silver is not a really good thermal paste, you're much better off using MX-4.
Agreed. However, anything is better than the original thermal paste
Who cares about the jet engine sound as long as it's fast
True
noob tip.
heat blowing out is heat not staying in...
If it's done correctly the temp never gets that hot in the first place
Waste of time
If you don't have a jet engine then no need to do this. But most people will need to do this at some point
It helps to reduce the amount of throttle (lag/choppiness) your console will have if it runs too hot.

Hey ya remember me from the other day on a video about graphics cards for ps4 pro? Well anyway fella I remember you saying that you need a PC first to sort out installation and whatnot with a graphics card but I'm here to ask you is there places that will do this for me according I've got the graphics card in the first place ya know installation? Because I don't own a PC myself I'm just a console gamer but I'm wanting to upgrade my ps4 pro because I simply don't have a spare 500 kicking about that I can spend on a upgrade to ps5. Any info is appreciated bud and as always have a good day.
Even if I had a PS4 Pro, I think I must swap in a 2TB Solid State Drive as an option not only for fast booting performance, but also twice the storage the 1Tb hard drive do not. It does not matter what the brand name or cost for a 2TB solid state drive I get, even from Best Buy.
