Just followed most of the steps. I use a nino tnc and had that already set for bpq (used to run a fbb bbs back then). But added cms gateway etc and now have a solid Gateway running here in j6 Land also! Thanks Jason. Every video I watch i take a way something of interest.
Great timing. I just got my black friday FTdx10 delivered on Fridays. Yesterday, I connected a Rasp zero 2W which I installed BAP on for connecting to a 1970s Tempo One tube rig. I use the "LoveRPi MicroUSB to USB 4 Port Black OTG Hub" ($6 Amazon). Only two USB cables needed. [1] MicroUSB to USB for power plugged into a USB port on the FTdx10. The [2] connection is previous listed MicroUSB2USB hub with a USB to USB-B for CAT control. In 2 minutes, all was working (fl-stuff, ft8, js8call) except for PAT-Menu Auto-Connect rig control. I have PAT rig control working on a Pi4B using the old terminal based "pat-menu" which I still prefer over the newer GUI version.
Great video. I was going to figure this out the hard way over Christmas. I was going to buy a TNC PI though. I think I'll try saving myself $100 and try out an Easy Digi / Saberent sound card combo I'm using on my client. I would love to see a video on running a wl2k gateway and a local BBS on the same pi! Merry Christmas and thanks for another great video!
It is pretty easy. Just put a checkmark beside the two services in the BPQ config generator. Configuring the BBS is the challenge. The guys on the BPQ forum can help with that. groups.io/g/bpq32/topics
How long ago did you ask for this video? hihi. I finally got around to it. Couldn't agree more with a daily reboot. I do this for both my APRS digipeater and the Winlink gateway but I prefer midnight as my reboot time. Just personal preference.
@@KM4ACK hopefully get more on the air. I use pi w and the now not available audio pi hat. Likely will entirely rebuild on the new os and follow your video here. Still only about 5 packet stations here in Australia of which I have one
Thanks for this video. I have gone through this several times now and I think I'm missing something. The lnbqp is talking to winlink I know because my station report shows up in the station list of winlink express. But when I try to connect direwolf doesn't seem to kiss the bqp. The direwolf manual shows more stuff in the command line for kiss but before I start messing something else up I thought I'd ask. 73's Jessie (KC0HT)
So I went back and did a complete re-do of the SD and software build; and got to minute 24. You jumped to another computer and I am not sure what tool you are using to connect back to the gateway?
Have you considered updating this to reflect 73Linux? I tried to use this video with the a fresh73Linux install on my Pi but so far have not gotten it to work - not activating the radio. My hardware is different: Pi 3b and digrig with pre-made cable, so I am poking around to figure out the differences, and to see if I made any install mistakes.
It can be challenging to get the config right. The best placed to get some help is the BPQ forum. groups.io/g/bpq32/topics There's a great group there always willing to help.
I have a PiGate RMS and I am trying to figure out how to make it show up on the map or the channel selection. Emergency RMS I have an RMS account I have entered a grid in the rms set up.
what can I do if after running arecord -l and no capture devices are listed. I have a pi4 that I have set up and have installed the build a pi like n the video so far
I believe I was able to fix. I connected my 991a and then ran arecord -l again and now it shows the card 3 device 0 codec. Great video Jason, I do appreciate all the work you do and share!
I'm not seeing much BBS/Winlink/APRS in my area. I noticed that when you were setting up LinBPQ, there were check boxes for each function. Can all three be setup to run at the same time? Do you enter each one via a different SSID? Are there any videos that speak to running all 3 at the same time?
You can run the BBS and Winlink gateway on the setup. I wouldn't add APRS to the mix though. Run it on a separate setup. BBS/Winlink shouldn't be run on the APRS freq (144.390)
There are many choices and it depends on your radio as to which cable and module you need. You can find a complete list at tigertronics.com/files/SignaLink%20USB%20Product%20Guide.pdf Specifically for the Yaesu 2980R SLCABRJ1 SLMODR1Y
@km4ack I did all of this and it works up until the system hangs on connecting to the AWS server, i get no response... i am an authorized sysop and all of that but it seems to hang up at the AWS connect? any help appreciated
I have it running and can connect from my radio in another room but it seems to just hang when trying to connect to the cms and eventually disconnects. Any ideas?

assuming you installed my auto start up script, you can disable it in cron by adding a "#" in front of the command and rebooting. The other way if you prefer is stopping bpq & direwolf after boot.
The signalink makes it super simple to connect the pi to the rig and handles PTT but there are other methods out there as well. It depends on which radio you are trying to use as to your options for PTT.

Fantastic video Jason! Only thing I personally add to the cron is a daily restart at a random time like 0447 as a bit of a fail safe

why am I getting "Type ? for a list of available commands" instead of connecting to RMS?
This is a very late reply, but I had the same problem recently and solved it by not putting an SSID after my callsign in the setup.
Hey :) Is there any chance of an updated version of this for 2024 using a Digirig? :)
love it. If only Raspberry was cheaper

Can we make stable diffusion an option? Sometimes dalle puts text on the images even though I’ve modified the dalle prompt and asked it not to.
Hi Jason, do you maybe have the same setup for VARA HF?
I don't. I have only put together the packet gateway.
@KM4ACK Thank you Jason. 73
Just found this vid. So, direwolf won't act as the TNC?
Will the first gen of the Signalink work with Winlink? I know it is incompatible with the newer comm programs such as FT8, FLDigi etc.
Hi, many thanks for this video, i´m trying to get this runing with a TNC Pi what settings i have to use in this case? Thank you

Which cable are you using between the radio and your Signalink? It seems there are a number of choices based the pin out.

When I connect to the node I get "Type ? for a list of available commands"
Sounds like you are connecting to a node that also includes a BBS
nope, just my own node, no BBS, no chat, no APRS etc. Seems like someone else below has the same issue. Not sure
@@HunterSkiff Did you ever find a solution to this? Having the same problem with a first time install.
Is that BPQ configinurator something you built?

@@KM4ACK Thanks. I think it had something to do with my call trying to connect to itself to test it....
If that’s the case, you will find where I asked that exact question on the forum. 😂 I had to add “-2” to the node call.
Is there a site where I can find out what radios are supported by Winlink and Flrig and Fldigi ?
thanks

Do you just re-install Direwolf if it didn't configure my sound card?
You can just manually change your sound card number in the direwolf.conf file. No need to reinstall.
so how i can turn off or unable the gateway when need to?
assuming you installed my auto start up script, you can disable it in cron by adding a "#" in front of the command and rebooting. The other way if you prefer is stopping bpq & direwolf after boot.
