I think the plus with this particular car is that the styling is so restrained. Rock solid design I think. It's avoidance of unnecessary detail really showcases its beautiful purity of form and the enormous equity in its iconic shape.
Agreed, but what are Porsche doing with their branding ? I love the script that says ‘Porsche’ or ‘Boxster’ etc across the rear of each car, but newer models are starting to copy the boot lid if a 60s Ford Cortina . Too many names and numbers and sometimes badly sized/l displayed. My little Boxster is discrete by comparison and that is one of the main reason I like it so very much.

I thought the point of so many variants was to give you a price range. They are ALL expensive, a base Carrera can be optioned out to be as expensive as a Turbo. And some of the variants are redundant.
@@MrTimeless101 if you know Porsches, owned some you would know. The different versions are distinct. Also the pricing is relative, most of them you can sell even with a higher price (right now) or very little loss of value.
Actually there are not too many 911 models. Porsche just makes it seem like it for marketing purposes. There is (in order) the Carrera, Carrera S, GTS, Turbo and GT3. With the standard Carrera being a sporty cruiser and the GT3 being the most track focused. You can get the Carreras also with 4WD - then the has a "4" in the Name. @@TheShaneglass05 -Update. The GT3 slot never materialized. But got the call yesterday to place the order for another 911 GTS. Going through with it and his time. 🍾🎉
I think the split between the new GT3 and GT3 Touring has allowed the GT3 to become much more track-focussed, to the detriment of its on-road manners. The GTS seems like an excellent compromise though, and the fact that it's still available with a manual is just gravy.
There is no split between the gt3 and the gt3 touring. the only difference is the lack of spoiler in the touring. With the GT3 being so track focused, I don't know where they go with the gt3RS
Three years ago I went to my Porsche dealership to put a deposit down for a 992 GT3, but changed my mind for a GTS instead and I never regretted my decision. It is such a fantastic car and so easy to live with. I opted for PDK instead of manual and I recommend PDK always. I also have a 2016 Boxster GTS (3.4 Liter) that I ordered with manual gearbox. Having one less gear means an extremely tall gearing across the range which kills the fun. I told myself to never do it again. Great video Mr. Metcalfe!
Hi Harry, as much as I’d love to think I have a GT3 engine in the back of my 997 GTS, it is unfortunately not the the Mezger unit. The 997 GTS was offered from the 2nd generation 997 and has a regular Carrera S DFI engine (385hp) with the powerkit installed as standard which bumps the power to 408hp. Still a lot of fun with the glorious 6-speed manual gearbox, but not as hardcore as the 997 GT3 (dare I call the 997 GTS comfortable?).
What a great sound this car makes. To be able to do that even now speaks volumes on Porsche excellence. The 911 still holds its own among the very best even at almost 60 years and counting.
I know you are trying to be funny, but a base 911 with no options is an excellent car. I can't think of one thing I would add if I was ordering a new 992 today. Maybe a glass sunroof. $2,000. Maybe.
I must say, the “quirkiness” being brought back by the manual isn’t surprising. It’s one of the only new manuals available now, especially over 100k. Brilliant as always Harry! I must say, I don’t agree on brakes. The carbons are so pricey, and for someone that would use it daily, not a journalist special, I would get the steels. That’s someone having fun drifting it around for a few hours, not normal wear.
Exactly what I thought, it's journalists drifting for the cameras hour after hour with some level of stability control still switched on that has most likely ruined those rear rotors. I don't think most owners would ever have this problem unless they were complete knobheads - and in any case, how many sets of steel rotors could you get for 6000 pounds? A lifetimes worth I'd bet.
In my opinion the best reviewer of cars on TH-cam by a very long way. The GTS (RWD) would be my pick of the current 911 range but i would option the PDK gearbox due to an injury. Keep up the good work with terrific content, thanks.
This is a great looking car, especially in carmine red, & is all the 911 I would ever need. However, the £123, 500 price tag puts it well out of my league, sadly. Thanks for another great review Harry.

Great car but then so is the ‘S’ which is properly fast now - you wouldn’t notice much difference between the two with less than 10% between them in power and torque. There is still quite a big price difference despite Harry playing that down so you can still make a case for the ‘S’ being the sweet spot in the range. Of course, some think the base model is that…
Great review...480 HP...that's what my first 911 was, a 2007 911 Turbo (997.1), which was obviously much lighter than the 992.2. i sure wish I would have kept that one...the 997 Turbo 6 speed is kind of a the perfect car.
As an owner of a 992.1 S (manual) would echo comments on the gear box. Really appreciate his commentary. Second owner but would counter that the disparity of used prices between the S and GTS would support pulling the trigger on a well optioned S. At 440hp (conservatively), more than enough to put a smile on your face, and perhaps get arrested.
Why is the gearknob being further away/shorter sporty, haha. It should be closer so it's easier to reach from the wheel. Alter the throw rather than cutting the top off it?
The only thing that puts me off the GTS (and the Turbo) is centerlock wheels. I’m not sure why they insist on those. It’s nice to be able to remove your own wheels without a special tool and a 4ft long torque wrench.
Center locks are nothing to be scared of - search Rennlist for "center locks again". I've used the big torque wrench and the torque multiplier side by side. Neither is difficult if you pay attention but the multiplier is easier/less dramatic. And less $$.
Let's be honest: 99.9% of GTS or turbo owners are never going to tinker with their wheels, ever. The retired orthodontist that buys this car is not mechanically or physically inclined to do anything like that.
Almost my dream spec! 992 C2 GTS 7 speed with the aero kit and carbon roof though. I love turbo motors at 6500ft above sea level, I prefer it over the NA motors here. Glad to hear you liked this spec though, thanks for the review!

Absolutely Fabulous. Thanks Harry.
The only thing that puts me off the GTS (and the Turbo) is centerlock wheels. I’m not sure why they insist on those. It’s nice to be able to remove your own wheels without a special tool and a 4ft long torque wrench.
You can select 4 bolt wheels, choice of 2 x styles. I’ve seen a few pics with 4 bolt wheels, looks good 👍
@@silvercat7328 5 lugs. Porsche never has done 4 lugs
@@trumpet90909 Ha ha you're probably right.
Almost my dream spec! 992 C2 GTS 7 speed with the aero kit and carbon roof though. I love turbo motors at 6500ft above sea level, I prefer it over the NA motors here. Glad to hear you liked this spec though, thanks for the review!
Really great vidéo Harry. 👍
Please next Time close the sunroof, wind noises...
Thanks for the wind soundtrack!
Mr. Metcalfe that red Porsche looks amazing zipping around the corners and you look pretty good navigating imho. Perhaps you should pick one up?
Thanks Harry. Cheers from Canada.
I hope the GTS is more exciting than the base 992 I test drove. Compared to my AMG GTC, the 992 was a Total Bore. I couldn’t wait to return the 992.
I think I'm becoming pathologically jealous of Harry. Here I am stuck at home with brain cancer and a disqualified driver's licence (on medical reasons; not due to my stupidity). Meanwhile, Harry is driving through the beautiful Oxfordshire country side in some very nice cars. Life's a bitch!!!
I have only been driving in the UK once and I have to say that the most roads are pretty dangarous ! So not many people can drive those roads like Harry is !
The Uk has the safest roads in Europe , if not the whole world, (google it). Maybe you can't drive very well.
@@Brookspirit actually it’s Norway closely followed by Switzerland
The roads are full of loons that drive much more recklessly than Harry.
@@Brookspirit I had a chance to drive in Switzerland,Austria,Slovenia, Croatia, France, Spain, Greek Islands, Canary Islands, South Africa, Florida and Hawaii !!!!
@@MeTube3 I am pretty sure about that !
Love the gold wheels with the red body.
so now that you've tried the boxter and the 911 gts, what would be your pick?
It depends what is your use case - you want to go track? One car only? Weekend? Long trips? Family ?
@@bavariancarenthusiast2722 think if you spend 100,000 on a car you're not going to be a one car family...

Week 5 of asking for a review on the car transport truck (if you still have it)!!!
Great content as ever, would like to see what you make of the GT3 touring. Other reviewers have said that just the tyre change on that makes all the difference on the road.
They are the same, Sans wing
@@chadbarbaro And tyres. A few of the reviews I’ve seen have said the tyre factor on it’s own significantly changes it’s road manners in terms of tram-lining and harshness.
Great review! I wish the sunroof was closed though, thus reducing the background noise.
