    / woodsandbarclay In this video I install the Injection Pump and set the initial timing on the pump. I also review the complex throttle linkage. At the end I show the cleaned injector housings.

    Best engine Mercedes Benz ever made! Inline five cylinder turbo diesel! I own a 126 1983 300SD. My favorite car! Will never sale either! Most of my parts came from LKQ junkyards and online mail order parts houses. Nothing local! I still get 23 mpg on an engine with over 300,000 miles! And easy to work on, no computer crap!

    I cannot find a resource for the throttle linkage specifications. I mean the lengths and measuring points for the several threaded linkage rods.

    • @woodsandbarclay
      @woodsandbarclay  ปีที่แล้ว

      Go ahead and install them on the engine and then push them through their full travel you will know if they're the wrong length. At resting position they should not be pulling on any parts but then as soon as you pull on the throttle linkage they should immediately tighten up.

    Ive been into mercedes diesels since i was a teenager. Thanks for the videos. Good refresher. Im going to rebuild another OM 617 turbo on my 300 td
    Youre right, no one has rebuild videos, Ive found that rebuilding this engine is a little intimidating to some folks. Used to be you couldnt find a complete rebuild kit. Could you tell me where you got yours. Ive taken the advise of old timers when they say your defeating the longevity of the engine when you dont rebuild them with OEM mercedes parts. Most of the old timers say not to use aftermarket internal parts. Opinions vary on this though.

    • @woodsandbarclay
      @woodsandbarclay  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are no rebuild kits for these engines if you look on my website there's a section where you can download a complete parts list for all the parts that I ordered. Pistons are not manufactured anymore so the only way to get replacement Pistons is to have them custom made. However the parts list on my website will show you every part number and where I ordered it as seen in these videos. Http://www.om617Rebuild.com
      There's also a donation area on the website donations helped to pay for the hosting costs associated with keeping the website up and running anything you could contribute would be greatly appreciated

    ive got a bad oil leak where the injection pump meets the motor... is there a procedure for removing the pump without ruining timing? thanks

    • @woodsandbarclay
      @woodsandbarclay  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Use a small chisel to hammer a mark into the mount and injection pump. Remove the pump and make sure you don't turn the pump input shaft. Then to install it just line your marks up.

    • @woodsandbarclay
      @woodsandbarclay  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The most common problems are clogged up fuel filters. There are three of them two up at the engine and one in the tank.

    If I turn the full load stop screw on the injection pump will that increase fuel?

    • @woodsandbarclay
      @woodsandbarclay  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It will only increase fuel if it's adjusted incorrectly to start with. Once it has the maximum supply of fuel you cannot make it get more.

    • @woodsandbarclay
      @woodsandbarclay  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is not something you should need to adjust sounds like there may be another issue that needs to be resolved. That should be adjusted correctly from the factory unless someone has tampered with it.

    Is blue lock tight to much for aluminum

    • @woodsandbarclay
      @woodsandbarclay  ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends on the quality of the aluminum piece. Please give me a little detail about what the part is. A cheap cast aluminum part could potentially strip with a bunch of blue loctite on the bolt. However a high-grade forged aluminum piece will not.
