Wow man, good job ; my Lord, this car sing ! Yeah, the best car ever ; not back to the future but goes to the future ! I bought an 85 Mr2 in 89 and i drove it for 5 years until 1995. This car was really an experience that brought you to future ! Totally incredible... They use to compare this car to tops one ; Ferrari, Porshe etc... Of course those where more powerful with horsespowers but the Mr2 was the one that the noise engine was the loudest ; so you really had the impression to go faster than realty !!! And man, drivong this car was really one of the best esperience of my youther life.

1.6l of Japanese fury. More of a sports car than both my Camaros were. It will slap you for disrespecting it in a corner... in the rain. 2nd gear, 45-60mph full throttle. I had brochures when I was a kid in the 80's, got one in 2014. Fun car strangely easy to fix for the age and mileage.

Not just being nostalgic. There someone about older cars, especially Japanese. There's nothing wrong with liking older cars, it's all about the feeling of driving and nothing more, no tech and loud engine noise.

The blocky straight line styling of the 80's all kinda clicked for me when someone on Reddit mentioned it was because of the change from standard manufacturing to computer aided manufacturing. So they in a way, represent the black screen & green font style of 80's computers where graphics were those rudimentary and geometrical shapes.

I owned a 1985 Toyota MR2 in the same white paint scheme but with the front hood decal (gradient black stripes). I literally drove that car across the US for $100 gas budget each trip. This video is feeding that nostalgia once again, though I know I will never find my old car again to restore it to like it was the day I drove it off the dealership lot in Orlando, FL in '86.

Enjoy the creativity and hard work you're putting into your videos. They're worth watching! The 70's-80's were SOOO much better than today because you had privacy. Kids got to be kids and it was a simpler culture. Plus, the 80's were so full of new technology, it was an exciting time. Yes, today's cars are better. However, most of today's modern cars insulate you from a real driving experience. I'm a big fan of the 60's-late 80's cars just for that reason alone. Keep up the great job :)

  • @juststeve5542
    @juststeve5542 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The thing with modern cars is they can use all kinds of technical trickery to improve/fix handling. Traction control, stability control, torque vectoring etc etc. Hell, they've even managed to make the 911 go round corners at speed in the wet now without going through hedges backwards! But back in the day of that little MR2, the only way to make a car handle well was to design it properly in the first place!
Some of the most fun cars I have ever driven were rev happy 4 pots from the 80s. Quite often Italian. A constant pile of electrical problems, but when they're working they were so much fun!
Oh, and it's good to see that some things never change with you guys... The speedo doesn't work! lmao!

Having a dinky 80's Japanese sports car is the best. I love my '87 Starion, and any new car I've been in just doesn't have that "feel." I really can't describe it, but it's amazing how these cars can charm you. I've had one of those, but the JDM Soarer V8 with the tv in the dash and it was great except it made me go broke with all the expensive and unique parts and complecated wiring and bad fuel economy. It was also a really heavy car that only felt at home on high speed sweepers and freeways. Also the styling I a bit too American for me as it was designed for the US market. But it had the most comfortable seats of any car bar Jaguars that I've sat in.

There's SOMEthing about Japanese cars, something perhaps intangible or maybe not able to be articulated, that makes them a pleasure to own or even just drive... Even if the car seems boring and mundane at first, a few drives under the belt later, and a grudging respect begins to grow. I've driven a few marques in my life so far; I learned in a Nissan, I owned a Mazda, I drove a Toyota as a company vehicle... All three had a common thread. They get the job done. Pure and simple. None of them - beyond the occasional exhaust blow - EVER let me down once.

0- 60 in 8.4 in the heat, I alo constantly got 44 mpg(imperial) at 60 - 65 mph without cruise control. I could start to feel the speed at 85 - 90 mph and I could get it up to 120 with 500 rpm to go.

      "Not a chance whatsoever"
      Incorrect. Do some research.
I owned an '85 MR2. I bought it used in '89 with 50,000 km on it when I started teaching. It was a great car. But you honestly think that cars haven't gotten better in the last 35 years? You really are dreaming. The base model of ANY car now is built much better than a car from 35 years ago. They are better in every respect. From the materials used, to how well body parts fit, to the paint, to suspension, to individual components. Most cars now are welded by computer controlled robots. I could go on and on. I can tell you what happened to that car. It rusted out, the dashboard material split down the middle, the suspension went, the engine began leaking. All within a very short period of time.
      "just how old are u?"
I'm retired, and old enough to know how to spell the word "you" ; )
But I'm also smart enough to know that almost every facet of manufacturing has improved by leaps and bounds. And I don't see the past through rose coloured glasses.

"Ya, that's why the vast majority of newer vehicles need very expensive repairs starting at about 50,000 miles."
Incorrect again. The auto industry is very different now than it used to be. And you simply aren't taking that into account. First of all, we expect a lot more from our cars. From power, to SAFETY, to a myriad of creature comforts. What was considered acceptable 35 years ago would NEVER pass modern day standards.
There is also much more emphasis on preventative maintenance.
For example, a brake job now will cost $800 since it is common to replace rotors for safety reasons. The standards have changed. This is something that wasn't done in the past. Modern cars make more power, run smoother, rust MUCH MUCH less...they are better in literally every way. Tell me. When was the last time you saw rust on ANY car under ten years old? My MR2 rusted out the rear wheel wells, as was pretty common with cars of the era.
You're going to lose this battle. Stop while you still have YOUR dignity : )

Skycars will never be king. Flying wastes a ton of energy compared to rolling on the ground. Flying is only remotely economical when you can stuff hundreds of people into the same vehicle.

Bullshit chevy once made a corvette in the late 60’s that was able to do 60 in just over 3 seconds. It wasn’t sold for production but it existed.

Right, and the new cars that are better now, don't last as long and they break down so you buy a new one.

I will take my 35 year old Mercedes Benz 500 SEC (235hp Euro spec) over just about anything today. I also have a brand new Camry XLe and I much prefer driving the Mercedes. The car is pure beastly sex on wheels. Hell, police have pulled me over just to look at the it! They always ask, is this the Roadhouse car? Yup!

Just noticed this in the recommendations column. Will have to watch later.
Have you figured out yet why this issue exists where full notifications aren't accepted? Dunno whether it affects everybody, but definitely more than just me.
I would suspect it might have to do with the old TH-cam style going away soon, that they let it deteriorate functionally. (The new style is about as awful than the new Twitter style. Made for smaller screens but less efficient space use. Needing more clicks to get stuff done, having to wait longer, stuff being visually less distinct etc.. Like breathing the internet through a straw.)
