  • Lead DSP engineer at Meris, Angelo Mazzocco gave a quick improv masterclass on their 3 amazing effects pedals, the Ottobit Bitcrusher/Sequencer, Mercury7 Reverb and PolyMoon Delay. I thought I knew these pedals well, but my god... I had only scratched the surface. So much awesomeness hidden inside these three mind-blowing pedals.

    Finally someone demonstrates the flanger, albeit briefly, independent of the delay. It’s surely important for prospective buyers to get an idea of whether the modulation can be a substitute for dedicated modulation pedals.

    I bought the Ottobit Jr from the Merris web site, shipping international to NZ. It arrived very quickly. It sounds amazing. It looks amazing. Top quality audio signal. Expression pedal makes it super usable. I bought it for the stutter, but the quality of the bit crusher is intoxicating. Like a very good gated fuzz. I use it with bass guitar, no low end loss at all. Just saying... (buy it)

  • @RaquelFoster
    @RaquelFoster ปีที่แล้ว

    I guess you need to be a lead engineer at Meris to get cool sounds out of a Meris pedal. This is a lot more impressive than any review I've seen for any of them.
    I've had a Polymoon for years and never even played with half of the alt functions. The interface is brutal. Using it requires you to not only remember alt functions for every knob, but there's also alt functions for each foot switch. And nothing is simple. The Time and Multiply knobs have alt functions which each blindly scroll through 16 different settings - and it's scrolling through totally different types of things on one knob. It's insane. Then there are "global settings" functions for each knob and each foot switch, too. If you're going to change any of them you'll need a chart mapping the cryptic binary values displayed on the four LEDs to their meanings.
    And now Meris just released the LVX with a big screen on it, but that just means you gotta go through menus to accomplish anything at all. If you're gonna make something as complicated as a Digitakt, you're gonna need some extra buttons/knobs/switches on the thing. All the DSP power in the world doesn't matter if it's behind a wall of bad UX.

    • @patrickr6505
      @patrickr6505 ปีที่แล้ว

      Having said all that which I agree to some extent as I've mastered the Polymoon settings..The sound quality you get with it is very very good....

    • @RaquelFoster
      @RaquelFoster ปีที่แล้ว

      @@patrickr6505 It's definitely a love/hate relationship I have with the Polymoon. The UX choices are just so bad on every level. With something like the Eventide H9, yeah, it's complicated, and it's not very fun to play with, but at least it has a screen that tells you which setting you're changing and what the value is. With the Polymoon you get no feedback, and every knob has an alt function so you can't trust the position when you look at the knob. You can plug it into a MIDI controller (I have the Polymoon and an Empress Tremolo2 plugged into an Empress Midibox just for clock sync), but that's still complicated just because the early/late modulation and phaser settings are a mess. And it has the cool expression pedal function that you can map to a MIDI encoder and morph between two presets, but as soon as you touch that you can't trust the knobs because you're morphing between things which all share the same knobs. The H9 lets you morph settings like that with an expression pedal, but it's much more usable because you can set it up in the app and easily see and control what the expression pedal is morphing between. It feels like Meris is copying cool features from other pedals but with a much more frustrating blind interface that isn't fun and isn't intuitive.
