-- This Ottobit Jr by Meris is one of the craziest guitar pedal's i've tried in AWHILE.. I ran samples off the SP-404sx through the pedal to simulate how i'd normal process samples to get texture and a more lo-fi sample sound.

I love seeing this reviewed from a synth/sequencer point of view since guitar players usually dive into these and have all the fun. The limitation of these boxes for guitar players has always been that the box is on the floor and you can't manipulate anything (because you're out of hands), but setting that thing on a table changes all that!

  • @ElJoellito

    Yo Ricky,
inspired by this video I also got myself an Ottobit. I love using it to stutter percussion (mostly without a lot of bitcrush), as you did here. (I was a little sad to learn that the pedal switches to mono when the looper os engaged tbh - was hoping to use it as a bus effect on my percussion - but that's another story)
Unfortunately, I haven't figured out the best way to sync it, yet. I tend to use a lot of start & stop in my production workflow, so tap tempo itself doesn't seem like a great option. Ofc the pedal takes midi clock, but that will always "start on the 1". However, the start point of the tap tempo/sync also defines the start and end of the stutter, and there are interesting effects to achieve when not just starting it on the 1. To get around this, I tried using a euclidean sequencer from my modular to sync it, and to define the start point of the stutter, by sending the euclidean triggers into the exp. in of the ottobit, set to tap tempo. Unfortunately, this comes with the pitfall of the (external tap) tempo constantly resetting the looper.
I think there is a better way to achieve this. Maybe you have an idea for a device or solution, that can aid here? Or you already came across something in your explorations of the ottobit? I am also on Live btw and use a hybrid setup, just like you. Would be very happy to hear your thoughts or see a video on it. Cheers!

Thank you Rickie, this is such a cool demo which led me to buy one for myself. It's so intuitive and easy to get to those awesome sounds! However I'm probably returning it and here is why: i'm using a digitakt to sequence a Nord drum 3p in a band and i had the ottobit on the 3p on sometimes subtle or not so subtle settings. Really great sounds. But... i just realised i could get 90% of those sounds and a lot more by sampling the 3p into the digitakt. That even frees up the 3p for more melodic live playing/sequencing. Am i missing something or should i go ahead and return the awesome ottobit and spend the money on more urgently needed gear? Greets from Luxembourg

You are living in a fantasy. Exactly why would Méris spend all their time and money to produce a pedal such as this only to simply give it away for free? They are producing value.. yet you think it should be free? That would mean it has no value. Wake up. That is a typical utopian fantasy that will never ever ever come to fruition.

Hi, Ricky. Does your Digitakt send MIDI CC to Meris OTTOBIT jr perfectly?
In my case, DT is set to send CC #14(BYPASS on/off) #16(SAMPLE RATE) #17(FILTER) #18(BITS) #19(STUTTER) toOTTOBIT jr.
For example, when my DT pattern A2 starts (or changed from the other pattern to A2), DT seems to not send MIDI CC immediately (then I just push the MIDI TRIG key, it sends).
But when I start (or changed from the other pattern to) A3 or A5, DT sends MIDI CC immediately.
My DT is upgraded to the 1.20A firmware, and my OTTOBiT jr is newest version.
    I don't know if it's a DT's bug or probem, or a OTTOBIT jr's problem.
Do you have any knowledge about this?

Great video mah dude! I’m loving ottobit jr with electribe sampler, but the volume gets out of control if I push the BRR past noon. I noticed you went quite high without a problem. How do you prevent that?

This is like 4 separate pedals in one box. Ppl crying about the price don't realize that. Try building a modular just to do what this thing does. Talk about broke. Really is a clean bitcrusher though. Awesome. Thank you for the demo.
