I don't recall it is being woman though , hence the name Onna-musha . Now before you fling sexist at me , Japanese do have woman warrior but they are mostly for territorial defense , at the last line in fact , defend the Daimyo , and their main weapon is Naginata . If i was the dev , i would make them instantly train but timed life , buildable from Daimyo manor , kinda like Militiamen from AoE3 but instead of spawning weak unit , this one armed with bow and Naginata and will beat the crap out of cavalry raid .

@@TV_6255C I am referring to the Japanese monks who are different in many aspects from those of China, the Japanese monks had an active participation in conflicts during the conflicts in the Middle Ages, 13th, 14th, 15th century, although it seems to me that they also led rebellions in the 19th century. XVI with all this reform of its society. Now Chinese monks are nothing more than stereotypes. Zhu Xi was a Confucian, Buddhist monks in Shaolin uniforms fighting for a warlord is illogical. On the other hand, in Japan there is evidence that these did fight, they even had a whole motodology for this, and I am not referring to martial arts, but armor, naginata, yumi bow, spear, etc... for the record, my point is not to make fun of the game, If not to show my opinion regarding this particular aspect of the game, which disappointed me in some aspects and I liked in another.

In AoE3, stealth meant units were just less visible and not auto-targetable, not completely invisible. @@Im_Anthonyy There are two things here:
      1) Devs have to take some artistic liberty to ensure that units of the same type are somewhat understandable across all civs. Round shields of the Horsemen is a design choice that helps newer players understand that they are horsemen of different civs. It's a fine line of gameplay clarity that they have to tread.
      2) We have absolutely no power in determining how units look - or even changing them after the fact. Also, most of the stuff we see have been completed many months in advance, so, even if we did theoretically have the power to change things, it would be too late in many cases.

"Onna-Musha" is literally just "Female Warrior" in Japanese, that's it and nothing more. "Yabusame"(a type of Japanese mounted archery) or "Yabusame Archer" should be a better name and used in AoE3. But I guess the devs really want a female UU for some reason.

@@jimmyorgenkaccrow4961 Musofadi Warriors aren't actually fake, although they are indeed inserted in a wrong historical period, but also are the Janissaries, for example.
Onna-Musha did exist, and in this case the historical period is accurate, but, well, referring to them as their gender rather than as their profession can be a subject of discussion, I agree. But, by no means it bothers me to have some sort of female representation in the game. Does it bother you?

    1. The Japanese never used early handcannons (the kind that handcannoneers use in AoE4). They saw the Mongols use cannons during the 13th century, but they were described as strange fire tubes or bells, and were never reverse engineered by them. The first cannon the Japanese ever got their hands on was imported from China in 1510, and the Japanese didn't start producing firearms until the Portuguese introduced them to arquebuses in 1543, which they quickly began to mass produce. So they skipped the early handcannon entirely in their firearms production.
    2. The ozutsu is a later evolution of the arquebus. So it being shown as coexisting with early handcannons is doubly nonsensical. It's like showing M16s alongside Brown Besses.
The Japanese handcannoneer should be replaced with an arquebusier that uses a long gun, not a handcannon, like the Musofadi Gunners and Janissaries do.
