I’m 39 and my husband is 43 and he’s also a diabetic and eats a horrible diet and he’s been experiencing ED for about 6 months now and it’s really had a negative affect on our marriage. We’ve only been married 11 months so to say as his wife it’s been difficult for me to deal with and even more so him. I’m an RN and I try and tell him the things that he should try and to see a doctor, but he refuses. Unfortunately, there is no cure for nerve damage after a laparascopic prostatectomy due to prostate cancer. My prostate removed Jan 2013, and not much going on "down south" after the procedure. But I count my blessings; it's been 9 years and counting, and all in remission.

I'm a bit surprised that Porn Induced Erectile Dysfunction (PIED) wasn't mentioned in this video. Although the physical causes mentioned here are still important, PIED is an even bigger problem across all age-ranges than those discussed here. The easy availability of internet porn has caused a huge number of men (even teenagers) to burn out their dopamine response to sex. Even an attractive real life partner will fail to stimulate an affected porn addict to an erection. Such people will turn to increasingly extreme porn to get the buzz they need to "satisfy" themselves. It's reached epidemic proportions. This is something that should be added to this discussion because it's every bit as relevant, if not more so, than the material present here.

I’m 65 and I’ve been dealing with prostate cancer since I was 60. I’m also diabetic which has caused neuropathy in both legs and Charcot in both feet. I fought erectile dysfunction for probably the past 25 years or more. I’m convinced that I’ve been diabetic and didn’t know it for a number of years and it affected my ability to achieve and maintain an erection. I think it would probably make sense for anyone with ED to include a check of their glucose and A1C to ensure diabetes isn’t part of their problem.

I’m 64, never smoked, don’t drink to excess, go to the gym 4 days a week, eat healthy and drink about 6 ounces of beet juice a day and still get great erections. Not like I got when I was a teenager but still very good. It’s all about the healthy living in my opinion.

Hey Dr. Berg I read in Mens Health that research has determined that men should lift heavy weights to fatigue so that they can sleep better at night to build testosterone and don’t focus too much on cardio exercise. I began suffering from ED a couple of months after a varicose vein op. A friend suffered similarly after his leg op. Doctors refuse to believe having your veins done causes this but I would like to warn other men just in case.

52 year old male. I spent most of my life unable to comfortably breath through my nose during sleep. Turns out I am gluten sensitive, I am now about 95% clean for the last few years and my head congestion is the lowest in my life. No longer wake up in the middle of the night to urinate and ED is more like in my early 40’s. Just my thoughts on one root cause of not being able to breath through your nose.

The solution to every problem lies in Ayurveda. (Pranayama is an important part of yoga). You can awaken various "chakras" in your body through different breathing patterns. All those breathing problems can be rectified by reciting various Sanskrit shlokas. Those sounds and breathing patterns influences our autonomic nervous system. Btw NASA is using Sanskrit for their computational purposes.
I'm convinced that ED is a lot to do with being in sympathetic/fight or flight mode, so men who are stressed can't relax and it affects performance. Breathing exercises are the best way to repair a damaged nervous system.
Balanced pelvic floor muscles also play a huge role. Overly tense muscles down in the anal and pelvic region will restrict blood flow and cause erection problems. Deep breathing and yoga stretches can help a lot.
@@michaelburman2108 Apologies for the belated reply, I didn't see this until now. I'd say unless there was some severe muscle cramp / spasm / knot or an overuse injury, the pelvic floor muscles should be pretty well balanced to begin with. But applying a heating pad and doing leg stretches can help resolve tension. Rest periods (with no porn or excessive masturbation) also help, I think.
Speaking of nasal breathing, I highly recommend everyone look up the WHIM HOFF breathing method. I started doing this about 6 months ago and it is changing my life. I've seen noticeable increase in the size and frequency of my erections.
I'm 34 and thankfully I don't have any problems in this department right now but I'll say from experience that opioid addiction, primarily during DT and for some time after turned me into a two pump chump. The other main problem I had was I'd let my partner cut me down in so many ways over time that I lost self confidence and we couldn't stand each other so I think when we would have sex it'd be just to do it and get it over with. Since splitting with her I've surprised my partners and even myself with my performance. So yeah... Having the wrong partner and having an opioid addiction are two factors that can definitely cause erectile dysfunction.

OH - MY - GOD! That makes so much sense! I'd like to add, that I also had some improvement with pumpkin seed oil, grapefruits (flavonides improve the prostate), olives and capers. Smoking, excessive alcohol use and some depression medication's will contribute greatly to ED. Just working on eliminating or consuming less of these will help enormously.
Intermittent fasting helps also because it repairs your body and mind, also exercise to get the blood flow pumping and healthy diet. Try to avoid medication, sugar and unhealthy carbs.
I’m going on 45 and have had erectile dysfunction for many years. I know stress is a contributing factor and I have had much stress in my life. Now I have learned to manage my stress more successfully and have changed my diet to a healthy keto diet. I want to restore my sexual function so bad that I have made it a goal for me. I still take medications for anxiety and trazadone for sleep and I want to move towards getting off these medications. My recent blood work showed that I had high cholesterol and high triglycerides so that is why I started healthy keto. I’m not over weight and lift weights about 4 times a week. I’ve just started power walking and my goal is to be able to jog a mile without getting extremely tired. The one thing I do take orally is a medication called Dutasteride for hair loss. I believe this medication also contributes to my ED. I want to get to the point with my diet and exercise where I can get off all medications, eat a healthy nutrient dense diet and restore my vitality in all areas. I don’t want to lose hair and be unhealthy but most importantly I want my blood work to show I’m in great health. Having ED has taken a toll on me and I want to restore this. I’ve also heard that as we get older we actually can lose size, I’m thankful I’m starting out well above average.but still don’t like the thought of losing any of it. The funny thing is I started breathing through my nose more when I was getting my asthma under control and I literally just came from the gym and just picked up kale, spinach, and swiss chard from the store. Lol They compared fasting to low calories but said there was improvement better with fasting but not significant. This was a hit job to get people not to try it. But see if you can find out what people ate between the fasting tine period. It was just a very poorly done study and omits the way more credible studies that validate IF

I'm glad that you're talking about this topic. I haven't seen too many doctors talk about it especially not from a physiological standpoint. Also , I think I've heard about nitric oxide in a book once. Or at least nitric oxide synthase or something like that. It's nice to here about it in a specific context because it helps me understand it better !

I’m 64, never smoked, don’t drink to excess, go to the gym 4 days a week, eat healthy and drink about 6 ounces of beet juice a day and still get great erections. Not like I got when I was a teenager but still very good. It’s all about the healthy living in my opinion.

Hey Dr. Berg I read in Mens Health that research has determined that men should lift heavy weights to fatigue so that they can sleep better at night to build testosterone and don’t focus too much on cardio exercise. 52 year old male. I spent most of my life unable to comfortably breath through my nose during sleep. Turns out I am gluten sensitive, I am now about 95% clean for the last few years and my head congestion is the lowest in my life. No longer wake up in the middle of the night to urinate and ED is more like in my early 40’s. Just my thoughts on one root cause of not being able to breath through your nose.

I'm convinced that ED is a lot to do with being in sympathetic/fight or flight mode, so men who are stressed can't relax and it affects performance. Breathing exercises are the best way to repair a damaged nervous system.

Balanced pelvic floor muscles also play a huge role. Overly tense muscles down in the anal and pelvic region will restrict blood flow and cause erection problems. Deep breathing and yoga stretches can help a lot.

I'd say unless there was some severe muscle cramp / spasm / knot or an overuse injury, the pelvic floor muscles should be pretty well balanced to begin with. But applying a heating pad and doing leg stretches can help resolve tension. Rest periods (with no porn or excessive masturbation) also help, I think.

The other main problem I had was I'd let my partner cut me down in so many ways over time that I lost self confidence and we couldn't stand each other so I think when we would have sex it'd be just to do it and get it over with. Since splitting with her I've surprised my partners and even myself with my performance. So yeah... Having the wrong partner and having an opioid addiction are two factors that can definitely cause erectile dysfunction.

OH - MY - GOD! That makes so much sense! I'd like to add, that I also had some improvement with pumpkin seed oil, grapefruits (flavonides improve the prostate), olives and capers.
I have identified all of those signs at myself (but I do not do drugs or alcahol, nor do I smoke. It is also psychological when I focus it too much). I am prediabetic, suffered two times a burnout, had depressions, got permanently stuck with worrying and with concerns of my future and had enormous emotional stress wife my exwife for two decades long. I am doing a prelonged fasting right now and will change my diet since I do have a sweeth tooth and love pasta and sandwiches.

Take one big spoon full on a rucola salad, or on a beef salad. I tastes best with vanilla ice cream But do not do that because that combination makes one fat over night ! And insulin resistance is also a cause of errection problems (unless you do a lot of physical, then youll burn off the sugar) If you watch Dr. Bergs show regularily, then you know that good oil is very healthy. Just dont combine it with starch , sugar or any carbonhydrates and youll be fine

Smoking, excessive alcohol use and some depression medication's will contribute greatly to ED. Just working on eliminating or consuming less of these will help enormously.
Intermittent fasting helps also because it repairs your body and mind, also exercise to get the blood flow pumping and healthy diet. Try to avoid medication, sugar and unhealthy carbs.
I’m going on 45 and have had erectile dysfunction for many years. I know stress is a contributing factor and I have had much stress in my life. Now I have learned to manage my stress more successfully and have changed my diet to a healthy keto diet. I want to restore my sexual function so bad that I have made it a goal for me. I still take medications for anxiety and trazadone for sleep and I want to move towards getting off these medications. My recent blood work showed that I had high cholesterol and high triglycerides so that is why I started healthy keto. I’m not over weight and lift weights about 4 times a week. I’ve just started power walking and my goal is to be able to jog a mile without getting extremely tired. The one thing I do take orally is a medication called Dutasteride for hair loss. I believe this medication also contributes to my ED. I want to get to the point with my diet and exercise where I can get off all medications, eat a healthy nutrient dense diet and restore my vitality in all areas. I don’t want to lose hair and be unhealthy but most importantly I want my blood work to show I’m in great health. Having ED has taken a toll on me and I want to restore this. Thank you for your videos Dr. Berg because now I have hope.

I can't stand it when people say "Try and lower your stress." I did not choose to be anxious, it just happened and now its destroyed my life.
The funny thing is I started breathing through my nose more when I was getting my asthma under control and I literally just came from the gym and just picked up kale, spinach, and swiss chard from the store. I already avoid drugs, alcohol, and sugar at all cost. The sleep is probably the only thing I need more of, like a lot of people I can be a night owl. Take magnesium and melatonin together before going to bed and that would help you get deep sleep. That's what I give my husband every night.

I have a deviated septum because of which my body has conditioned it self to inhale and exhale from mouth my entire life. I can only breathe through my nose if I remember to do it but that doesn’t last more than 4 or 5 minutes due to ADD distractions. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
You can have an operation on your nose to correct this. It's quite common and I had it too.
Karl is right. I had this same thing, and had an operation to correct the deviated septum. It’s a lot easier to breathe now.

But see if you can find out what people ate between the fasting tine period. It was just a very poorly done study and omits the way more credible studies that validate IF

I've also scheduled for him to see a urologist, and prayerfully we can get him in to see this wonderful Naturopathic doctor next month, who was kind enough to tell me about a urologist.😊
