Games getting announced too early has been such a big issue recently, it creates big expectations between reveal and release which caused fans to be disappointed but it also can cause people to forget that certain games are in development because there hasn't been news of them for 3 years like the Wonder Woman game
It's the Fandom, E3 in the past and now the game awards, state of play, summer games fest and so on. People are outraged when those shows aren't full of hype. Game development is too slow so now they are forced to show us stuff this far out because we demand it.
Atleast games like Doom The Dark Ages and Ghost Of Yotei were announced reasonable date, since they’re coming out next year. But the games you’ve mentioned were announced WAY too soon. I guarantee you that if Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 wasn’t announced so damn early, Insomniac wouldn’t feel the need to rush it.
I was mad too then found out that Game developers often announce titles early in development to generate hype and excitement among potential players, attract new talent to their studios, manage market expectations, and sometimes even use it as a strategy to secure funding or gauge interest in a project, even if the game is still in its early stages and may change significantly before release
See, I understand that, but it’s still crazy to me because the large majority of people are still new to information like this, if they’ve even been informed at all. So many people just have to be patient and wait to hear anything because they’re unaware what these teasers were truly posted for

Iron man can still be made as apparently they are retooling the Anthem flying mechanics and that was the highlight of that game having all the additional iron man abilities would make flying/traversal a treat.
Thats because theyre not announcement game trailers, theyre job listing advertisements. Cyberpunk 2077 is the first one i remember. Theyre just CGI trailers designed to attract talent to a studio. Theres countless examples. Remember when Anthem dropped the gameplay video and even the devs were like "oh thats what the games supposed to look like" Elder Scrolls 6? When they dropped that reveal and everyone was screaming, i was sitting there like... the only dev work done on that is a pencil sketch on the back of piece of paper lol.

My biggest personal pet peeve is when companies announce release dates of games before they’ve even started working on them. Because when they realize they won’t make the release date, they push it back. And when they won’t make that new release date, they put out half of the game with constant updates over the course of the next year. Don’t give us a release date unless you’re at least at the point where you can show some gameplay.
It happened with Cyberpunk; it happened with Persona 5; it happened with Metaphor; it happened with Zelda Breath of the Wild. Does anyone remember that last one? We had one trailer of Link shooting a bow in the most beautiful world we'd ever seen, and that was it... for years. Nintendo is doing it now with Metroid Prime 4 as we speak. These companies have been doing this for now over a decade. The only thing that's changed is Sony is now a recurring offender.
Biggest difference is, those games were from trusted companies, and they all had series that were slam dunks. So just knowing they're being worked on was enough. Also all of those games you mentioned are MASSIVE, like, extremely MASSIVE, all of those are 100+ hours. So it's warranted. However the WB games have bad track records for this past decade, so a teaser isn't good enough.
That’s it. It should be a federal law now. No game company is allowed to put out an announcement trailer for a game UNTIL there is substantial evidence that the game is close to being done and they have actual in game footage to back it up. If you put out a trailer for a game but it isn’t even in production or development yet, you are essentially building up meaningless hype for something that may not even EXIST within the next few years.

I think the real reason why there are game announcements that are so early is because the purpose of these announcements is to attract investors, and since most of the time attracting investors usually means revealing the development of said game, they just might as well put an announcement trailer together. I could be massively wrong though.

GodzillaMendoza summed it up best when he said that Superhero games are in a weird state. They release a cinematic teaser trailer thats basically the companies going “hey look at this IP we spent a lot of money on!” Then we hear little to no news or updates on the games development until a year or so later with another trailer that shows actual gameplay. Then all the advertisements and commercials are shown six months before the game is actually released. Then the game comes out, people play it and it’s agreed upon that it’s a pretty a big, long, massive, 6/10 at best. Then we hear stories about how the game was actually a pain to develop with so many issues to go through and there was actually more content that ended up getting cut to meet a tight deadline. Rinse and repeat.

Some of these cases aren't quite the same. Cyberpunk was announced way before development began. BOTW just had a long development time.

i think the reason some of them reveal so early is to get investors to invest into the game to create it. This happens all the time even in the film industry aswell

I think the real reason why there are game announcements that are so early is because the purpose of these announcements is to attract investors, and since most of the time attracting investors usually means revealing the development of said game, they just might as well put an announcement trailer together. I could be massively wrong though.

GodzillaMendoza summed it up best when he said that Superhero games are in a weird state. They release a cinematic teaser trailer thats basically the companies going “hey look at this IP we spent a lot of money on!” Then we hear little to no news or updates on the games development until a year or so later with another trailer that shows actual gameplay. Then all the advertisements and commercials are shown six months before the game is actually released. Then the game comes out, people play it and it’s agreed upon that it’s a pretty a big, long, massive, 6/10 at best. Then we hear stories about how the game was actually a pain to develop with so many issues to go through and there was actually more content that ended up getting cut to meet a tight deadline. Rinse and repeat.
I'm not gonna lie, I completely forgot the Wonder Woman game even was a thing. Funny how that happens when you drop a trailer so early that all the hype dies down before any meaningful progress can be made.
Worst thing is probably that in some cases they don't even have the budget to make the games to begin with. They do this to find investors.
