Games getting announced too early has been such a big issue recently, it creates big expectations between reveal and release which caused fans to be disappointed but it also can cause people to forget that certain games are in development because there hasn't been news of them for 3 years like the Wonder Woman game
It's the Fandom, E3 in the past and now the game awards, state of play, summer games fest and so on. People are outraged when those shows aren't full of hype. Game development is too slow so now they are forced to show us stuff this far out because we demand it.
Atleast games like Doom The Dark Ages and Ghost Of Yotei were announced reasonable date, since they’re coming out next year. But the games you’ve mentioned were announced WAY too soon. I guarantee you that if Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 wasn’t announced so damn early, Insomniac wouldn’t feel the need to rush it.

We had one trailer of Link shooting a bow in the most beautiful world we'd ever seen, and that was it... for years. Nintendo is doing it now with Metroid Prime 4 as we speak. These companies have been doing this for now over a decade. The only thing that's changed is Sony is now a recurring offender.
I was mad too then found out that Game developers often announce titles early in development to generate hype and excitement among potential players, attract new talent to their studios, manage market expectations, and sometimes even use it as a strategy to secure funding or gauge interest in a project, even if the game is still in its early stages and may change significantly before release
That’s it. It should be a federal law now. No game company is allowed to put out an announcement trailer for a game UNTIL there is substantial evidence that the game is close to being done and they have actual in game footage to back it up. If you put out a trailer for a game but it isn’t even in production or development yet, you are essentially building up meaningless hype for something that may not even EXIST within the next few years.
Even wilder is that they didn't actually start development on it until a few months after starfield released according to some rumors floating around out there. Even Grandma Shirley was shit posting on Twitter, saying she'd like to at least play it and see what they did with her likeness before she finally bites the dust
Now way is TESVI going to coming out this decade. Starfield had eight years of development time. Bethesda has gotten really slow about developing games.
Meanwhile Kingdom Hearts 4 being spoken into existence with no substance after (ALSO the nemesis system being scuffed for years by WB is bs on itself, that system kept me playing Shadow of War for hours)

Thats because theyre not announcement game trailers, theyre job listing advertisements. Cyberpunk 2077 is the first one i remember. Theyre just CGI trailers designed to attract talent to a studio. Theres countless examples. Remember when Anthem dropped the gameplay video and even the devs were like "oh thats what the games supposed to look like" Elder Scrolls 6? When they dropped that reveal and everyone was screaming, i was sitting there like... the only dev work done on that is a pencil sketch on the back of piece of paper lol.
My biggest personal pet peeve is when companies announce release dates of games before they’ve even started working on them. Because when they realize they won’t make the release date, they push it back. And when they won’t make that new release date, they put out half of the game with constant updates over the course of the next year. Don’t give us a release date unless you’re at least at the point where you can show some gameplay.

Tbf the wonder woman trailer was basically an application for devs. The game wasnt being worked on at the time which is why day 1 the moment the trailer dropped their Twitter had job listings. Honestly i dont mind stuff like this because its just letting you know whats next for the studio. The only time i can understand people getting upset is if they put a release date on it and they know darn well the game isnt even been worked on.
It's quite hilarious that the difference between these games and Spiderman 2 announcement trailer is that insomniac actually showed what we could expect, not only did the announcement trailer for Spiderman 2 actually have gameplay into it, it also showed off enemy factions and villains

They release a cinematic teaser trailer thats basically the companies going “hey look at this IP we spent a lot of money on!” Then we hear little to no news or updates on the games development until a year or so later with another trailer that shows actual gameplay. Then all the advertisements and commercials are shown six months before the game is actually released. Then the game comes out, people play it and it’s agreed upon that it’s a pretty a big, long, massive, 6/10 at best. Then we hear stories about how the game was actually a pain to develop with so many issues to go through and there was actually more content that ended up getting cut to meet a tight deadline. Rinse and repeat.
I'm not gonna lie, I completely forgot the Wonder Woman game even was a thing. Funny how that happens when you drop a trailer so early that all the hype dies down before any meaningful progress can be made.

In my opinion, I think that these early announcements are less so for hyping us up, and more so for attracting talent from game devs. Another example is Star Wars Eclipse, which was also announced back in 2021.
I forgot that they announced these games back in 2021. Seriously they showed these teasers 3 yrs ago, and they didn't bothered showing any gameplay whatsoever. They shouldn't even announced, when they weren't prepared to begin with.
A developer tried to defend the practice by explaining that they use these kinds of teasers are indeed used as a glorified reel to get investors, as well as a recruitment tool to get more professionals involved. If I remember correctly, most of the community tore him a new one.

I agree cause they hyped us up with teasers and all of them were announced almost 3 years ago like what was the point hyping us up for no reason when they might not even come out for another 2 years
Tbf the wonder woman trailer was basically an application for devs. The game wasnt being worked on at the time which is why day 1 the moment the trailer dropped their Twitter had job listings. Honestly i dont mind stuff like this because its just letting you know whats next for the studio. The only time i can understand people getting upset is if they put a release date on it and they know darn well the game isnt even been worked on.
I didn't see anything that hackers get from insomniac beacuse i avoid them (beacuse i respect someones time who was working on the fings)
It's quite hilarious that the difference between these games and Spiderman 2 announcement trailer is that insomniac actually showed what we could expect, not only did the announcement trailer for Spiderman 2 actually have gameplay into it, it also showed off enemy factions and villains

GodzillaMendoza summed it up best when he said that Superhero games are in a weird state. They release a cinematic teaser trailer thats basically the companies going “hey look at this IP we spent a lot of money on!” Then we hear little to no news or updates on the games development until a year or so later with another trailer that shows actual gameplay. Then all the advertisements and commercials are shown six months before the game is actually released. Then the game comes out, people play it and it’s agreed upon that it’s a pretty a big, long, massive, 6/10 at best. Then we hear stories about how the game was actually a pain to develop with so many issues to go through and there was actually more content that ended up getting cut to meet a tight deadline. Rinse and repeat.
I'm not gonna lie, I completely forgot the Wonder Woman game even was a thing. Funny how that happens when you drop a trailer so early that all the hype dies down before any meaningful progress can be made.
i think the reason some of them reveal so early is to get investors to invest into the game to create it. This happens all the time even in the film industry aswell

In my opinion, I think that these early announcements are less so for hyping us up, and more so for attracting talent from game devs. Another example is Star Wars Eclipse, which was also announced back in 2021.

I forgot that they announced these games back in 2021. Seriously they showed these teasers 3 yrs ago, and they didn't bothered showing any gameplay whatsoever. They shouldn't even announced, when they weren't prepared to begin with.

A developer tried to defend the practice by explaining that they use these kinds of teasers are indeed used as a glorified reel to get investors, as well as a recruitment tool to get more professionals involved. If I remember correctly, most of the community tore him a new one.
