    I was born in 1967! I remember watching Tarkenton and he was just such a legend. If you see some of the Superbowl games they lost the calls were poor. Lots of penalties were not called like interference which cost the Vikings at least two of those Superbowl's. Tarkenton goes down in history as an original and one of the best people ever in the business. God bless him!!

    Retired in 1978, while still playing well, and he broke all of the NFL passing records, not to mention his innovative scrambling out of the pocket to avoid sacks !! Coaches like Van Brocklin at Vikings wanted him to stay in the pocket, thank God he never listened !
    I'm both a Viking & Giant fan and he brought his winning attitude to both organizations. I still have a Fran Tarkenton Viking jersey . Back in the day there weren't too many QB's leaving the pocket, well now your seeing the Tarkenton brand of football played by many of todays NFL QB's. I never saw his induction into the HOF and haven't seen Fran since his days on Monday Night football with Howard who always referred to him as Sir Francis. Thanks so much for this video, it showed how much of a class guy he is as well as so many of his Minnesota Viking teamates and Coach Grant. How he rallied for and lead his roommate/ Center Mick Tinglehoff into the HOF after so long a wait speaks volumes as to his character, his leadership, dedication and class !! It was nice to hear that Bud Grant and do many NFL HOF competitors were touched and moved by his speech. You don't need Superbowl Rings to show that you truly a winner !!!

    I was a Vikings fan starting in 1973 at age five living in New Jersey. Sure I wish they had won a Superbowl. But I wouldn't change a single thing to get it. What a special time. Special memories that I will take with me to heaven. Special men that I never met but loved with all my heart and soul. I can still see myself lying in bed as a kid trying to get to sleep on a Sunday night thinking about that days game nine out of ten times I only saw highlights of. It seems like a lifetime ago. What a special time for sports the 1970s and 80s were. My team. My guys. My heroes. Joe Kapp, Bud Grant, Fran Tarkenton, Chuck Foreman, Allen Page, Sammy White, Wally Hilgenberg, Carl Eller, Jim Marshall, Gary Larson, Ahmad Rashad, Jeff Siemon, Bill Brown, John Gilliam, Mick Tingelhoff, Ron Yary, Paul Krause, Stu Voigt, Ed White, Roy Winston, Bobby Bryant, Matt Blair, Jerry Burns, Tommy Kramer, Joey Browner, Anthony Carter, Chris Doleman, Scott Studwell, Dave Huffman, Steve Jordan, Leo Lewis, Kirk Lowdermilk, Doug Martin, Keith Millard, Chris Carter, Wade Wilson, Gary Zimmerman, Tim Irwin, Henry Thomas. Metropolitan Stadium. Thanks for all the memories. I love and miss you guys.

    As a Kid watching this team and the Head Coach, made the biggest impact of my life outside of my Mom/ Dad Brothers and Sisters. To this day I am emotional about this team. Those teams created something special even though they lost the big one 4 times. They never quit until they got to old to play. That's important right there. Never quit because you keep winning because you are trying....

    Fran was a fine QB and the Vikings had a fine team...but he faced possibly the two best teams in NFL History, the '73 Dolphins (who won 24 - 7 and the game really wasn't that close) and the '74 Steelers (who won by only 16 - 6).

    • @outtahere321
      @outtahere321 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    • @donwilcox728
      @donwilcox728 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And let's not forget a darn good chiefs team and another ferocious team in the 1976 Raiders. Think about the Vikings Superbowl opponents....
      Chiefs, Steelers, Dolphins and Raiders. The only thing that bothered me was that the Vikings would beat these teams handily during the regular season but just wouldn't show up in the Superbowl. I think some of it had to do with the Vikings being one of the great cold weather teams but the Superbowl's were for the most part played on nice fields in good weather. And the Vikings lost that edge. The only bad weather Superbowl they played was against the Steelers in Tulane Stadium New Orleans. The game was close even though the Steelers defense was suffocating. A couple of weird things happened against the Vikings that day. The terrible handoff from Fran with football bouncing off L.C. Greenwood's yellow shoe back to Fran who fell on it for a Steelers safety. The opening kickoff in the second half being kicked on the ground by Roy Gerela who slipped on the wet artificial turf and fumbled by Bill Brown who never got control of the ball. The Vikings blocking a Steeler's punt for a touchdown to pull within two points 9-7 but they missed the extra point leaving the score 9-6. And the apparent fumble by the Steelers wide receiver and recovery by the Vikings that would have given the ball to the Vikings offense down by three with five minutes to play and the momentum of the moment. But the officials called the play dead. No fumble recovery. And the Steelers iced the game a few plays later with a passing touchdown with three minutes to go and a 16-6 advantage.

    Why isn't Jim Marshall In the Hall of Fame absolutely ridiculous, I'll tell you why cuz the Vikings didn't win their super bowl they lost all four, but that doesn't diminish the greatness of that '70s franchise I've been a viking fan since 1970, it's April of 2021 I still am, I've lived in Ohio all my life and many of my friends and family are viking fans and we have been forever. The other teams were great yes it's true but these same Vikings beat most of those same teams in the regular season at one time or another . The most frustrating thing was just how flat out terrible the Vikings performed in those 4 SB games . If Tark played with todays pass friendly rules he would have put up 100,000 yards and 500 TD's .
