    He was probably the best QB to never win the Super Bowl and he never really got hurt which is impressive

    I'm from Toledo Ohio born and raised, I've been Minnesota Viking fans since 1970 I've lived and died with them, I'll always remain loyal even when they broken my heart, Fran Tarkenton will always be my favorite athlete. Very good role model good morals all around good guy you don't see that much anymore.

    If there is ever a stat that shows how much the game has changed since Tarkenton has played, it is the fact that he played 18 seasons but is 14th on the all time passing leaders in yards with just over 47K

    Tarkington was great. Like Farve never out of a game, never out of a play. Miracle worker. Street ball. Hat's off from Milwaukee 45 years later.

    Yes Sir Francis you came up short in the super bowl, but more importantly you are a big winner in life, I'm a die-hard viking fan, it hurts that we didn't win the super bowls but let it go you won a much bigger game the game of life. So proud of you and you're still one of my heroes and I'm a 57 year old man

    Fran Tarkenton ALWAYS knew how many yards he needed for a first down. I always hated when the Vikings played my beloved Miami Dolphins back in the 1970's... He was the best..!!!

    He wasn't a big quarterback but got it done, and a true joy to watch. I seen him with the Vikinga and the Giants. He made the game exciting to watch. He played 18 seasons when you could hit the quarterback! Only one season where he threw more interceptions than touchdowns. In 18 years truly remarkable, his timing avoiding pass rushers made him more remarkable! I am glad I got to watch him play!

    I think is interesting is that Fran Tarkenton made his passing numbers before the NFL opened the passing game.

      And behind some really rickety offensive lines, too, for the first seven, eight years of his career.

      Artur Belo Good point on the 14 game schedule. That's like OJ's 2000 yard season, he's the only one to do it in a 14 game season. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that he is behind bars.

      B. Frost Yep his first stint with the Vikes and the Giants O lines were shitty. A standard pocket QB wouldn't of had a chance.

    Fran was a great quarterback, very athletic, his downfall was he just wasn't big or strong enough to play at a high level in the playoffs in my opinion, the old man Willie interception in Superbowl Xl, was a prime example he just wasn't strong enough to throw that out pass fast enough.

    There was no one like Tarkenton. It took me 30 plus years of watching football until 1 man came along who would change that. Just about everyone hates him now. His name is Johnny Manziel. I saw Johnny in high school (Kerrville Tivy) and all those years of watching Tarkenton, the memories, came rushing back. Johnny was the most amazingly gifted QB in the history of the game but didn't dedicate himself seriously, like Fran. That's what separates Francis from everyone else. His longevity, durability, and stamina to do it every game for about 20 years. Amazing man. Amazing life.

      Yes, in our frustration of the current situation our 70's teams would have made some noise. Except for Fran and the Vikings

    BTW Jerry Burns was a better coach that how people remember him. It was Mike Lynn who tore his team apart in that disastrous Hershel Walker trade.

    • @OnePost909
      @OnePost909 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True. A GM who would make a trade like that without a sign-off from the head coach -- give me a frickin' break.

    What's sad is that, in today's NFL, Tarkenton would have virtually zero chance of being even a backup QB, let alone a starter.

      SingleTax Absolute Bull.

    • @6400az
      @6400az 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      SingleTax LOL....even sadder post ! Why attempt to minimize/trash his accomplishments? The same could be said of all others who played 40 years ago. To compare cross generational athletes , you consider how they did against the given competition in their respective eras. Tarkentons's records speak louder than anything your or I can say.

    • @SingleTax
      @SingleTax 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was commenting on the current state of the NFL, not on Tarkenton's accomplishments. It's the NFL, not I, that now has a habit of regarding a 6'2" 195 lb QB as being "undersized." Many of the QBs playing today are the size of a 1970s defensive end. Someone like Drew Brees is merely the exception that calls attention to the general rule.

    • @DinoHunter56
      @DinoHunter56 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SingleTax Ok. i take back what I said. You're right. The NFL has become a copycat league with ridiculous standards.
