I know they were trying to make a point here with the helmet comparison. But I certainly remember Fran wearing a Ridell Air Helmet his last few years. The old helmet he has here was circa 1966.

I played both football and ice hockey and got my share of concussions. As strange as it sounds, I remember my very first, really bad concussion which happened during football practice in 1971, and my last one which took place in 2005 while playing roller hockey two weeks after returning from my second deployment. I went to the V.A. and they said I have CTE but cannot treat me because my head injuries are the result of playing sports not combat-related.

One of the things you must realize, I played with a helmet like Fran's, believe me you would never lead with your head with one of those on, kids today have all that protection and are leading with their heads with much more force than we did and are using the helmet as a weapon and are unaware all the damage they are doing to their heads, you might say the helmets are too good today, if they wore one like Fran's I don't think they would lead with their head, but you got to say all levels of football are outlawing using the head/helmet as a weapon.

I like Fran a lot, but I'm sorry...Do you need a doctor to tell you that too many blows to the head could lead to brain damage later on in life? It kind of goes with common sense. Even back when Fran played, if you had an ounce of sense, you had to know that too many concussions weren't good for you.
