    G'day everyone! Join us on this good ol wander around our neighbourhood in Siem Reap in the Taphul Rd area in the Northern Suburbs. Have you lived up this part of town before? How does it compare to other spots? I loved the location and the variety of food options at your fingertips!

    That supermarket at 10:44 is 24 hours. First one in SR if you don't count the 7-Elevens. Those salmon shop guys are loud! Great video🎉

      There was a Triangle mart across the road from the Original Sokha hotel used to open 24/7 when I was teenager( old lady now 😂).there’s a supermarket now but I think it has different name, not sure if it’s a 24/7 one.

      @ForRiel it is and it’s immaculate inside as well! The old Triangle Mart that was there was as well…was a little rough inside but did the job back in the day.
      Never got around to partying with the Salmon Store crew, maybe a job for Jeremy and I next time!
      Cheers!!

    Man, very different from where I was staying about 500m north west two weeks ago. Still, Siem Reap is an incredible place and I was working in the proper country areas around Kra Lanh and saw places I wouldn't have as a tourist. Siem Reap has a lot going for it, and nowhere near as "commercial" and Phnom Penh. Can't wait to get back.

      G'day mate! Couldn't agree more! There is so much to experience outside of the main touristy bits. Never a dull moment out there! And to your point you don't have to go far really to get out of town do you! What did you do for work out in SR? When are you heading back? Thanks for watching P Man!

    G'Day Mate , Yep having a balance for what you both like in an area is good , cos some times you get a craving for the western crap then regret it lol , just walked a little around there as you stated b4 its still quiet very few of those tourists lol , any way noice one

      G'day Maddo - agree mate. No location is going to be absolutely perfect but this had plenty of good stuff for both of us. It's a little bit away from the riff raff so unless as a tourist you are seeking out one of those restaurants, most will prob never venture up there. Doesn't surprise me that its still pretty quiet whilst you wandered about there.
      Hope everything is under control mate!

    I retire to Siem Riep next year Feb so I enjoyed the walk about - which district is this?. Now that you know this district and if you were looking to move then which other districts would you be considering and why. cheers and take care

    • @MarcsMildlyInteresting
      @MarcsMildlyInteresting  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      G'day mate! Glad you enjoyed the vid! This I think is called the Svay Dangkum district - However I just call it the Northern suburbs as its north of pub street!
      Hmm good question - if looking again, Id say our most important thing would be a more sustainable house/apartment (i.e one that had a bit of sun protection), was close enough to my wife's family and close enough to town. So prob look north and north east or east of the main town.
      Everyones needs are different - so you really need to consider what is important to you and your lifestyle when picking a place to live. At the end of the day if you are retiring there - you could always do a couple of months in different spots to see how you like it before settling in on your forever place.
      Have you been to SR before - what areas attract you? Thanks for watching mate! Cheers!

    An intellectual perception & a breath of fresh air compared to many who stutter by comparison in reporting activity like this ! -- I like your style young man. -- Curious about the 5 o'clock temp however ? Didn't appear sweating ? (( Was this a 'comfortable' experience after 5pm ??? )) It is almost officially winter in the N. Hemisphere. Would tell me a bit of something (being in the US) about their climate ? -- Seriously considering retirement there & never been anywhere near SE Asia. > Cost of living has me sold with their amazing visa for expats over 55 ! Living somewhat frugal on my $1500/mo SS check should be great living. Been watching all I can of Siem Reap on here. Hate to cook so especially into street food & other options. -?- Seems quite affordable & easy to get with good variety ? -- I'm too old to do all that walking so thinking of '''buying''' a 3 wheel tuk tuk for transport. Those Bajaj RE fascinate me & would be good in the rain & for shade ? Exploring the city and the entire surrounding Siem Reap area would be fun - don't ya think -?- Take a loaded cooler & go !

      G’day Frank! Thanks so much for the kind words mate! We have plenty of vids on Siem Reap and Cambodia so if you have any questions on any subject you see please ask away in the comments!
      For this one:
      Climate -when I filmed that video it was hot but not oppressive. Generally the temperature in Siem Reap is hot and humid. April and May are the hottest (high 30s low 40s Celsius), November is considered ‘just right’ coming off the back of the wet season (get a storm here and there but not constant) and December is their winter where it dips below 20c at night! Wet season is from May to November - you set your watch to the daily storms! Short sharp and intense!
      Cost of Living - $1500 per month will go far in Siem Reap. There are lots if cost of living videos out there, not all will apply to your circumstances however they will give you some ideas.
      Food - mate, don’t you worry about cooking!! Plenty of good cheap food options in SR! Including local dishes and some great western food! You won’t go hungry - you will be spoiled for choice!
      Transport - hmm those Baja things are good for sealed smooth roads, on dirt or through pot holes they are horrible! The small wheels don’t do them any favours.
      I’d say make the decision on transport once you get there and get a feel for the place. Motos rule here with the ease of getting about and parking in town but agree having a roof at times can be handy! Having said that, getting a ‘passap’ ride is so cheap if you need to get around in poor weather it might not be worth buying one!
      Also easier to take your eski full of beers if you are not driving ;)
      Hope this helps Frank! Cheers mate and chat soon!

      @@MarcsMildlyInteresting-- Oh yea - detailed enough for me. Appreciate your time & effort for an old man. Don't know what 'passap' is ? Just so used to driving my own car all my life......owning my own with the ease & freedom of any second - just going ! Been driving my own since 1966 (?) so be hard for me to do w/o 'something' ?!? It's an independant thing I suppose ? A 'freedom' of sorts ? --- Thanks for the friendly response. All the best & take care young man. 🙏 Cheers ! 🍺

    Regarding housing, do they require 2 months deposit or just 1 month rent payment?

    • @MarcsMildlyInteresting
      @MarcsMildlyInteresting  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good question - Our place needed one month up front as well as one month deposit. Not sure if this is common practice as I am not a seasoned renter. You could probably reach out to someone like IPS Siem Reap - the local real estate agent - to get an idea on what is required in general. Hope this helps!
