    Hey Dan, So is the tubular rolla air intake manifold the best option for power for the 4EFE STOCK NA Build? And it won't need anything welded or done with the ECU/CPU? Thank in advance!!

    • @dan91sgarage
      @dan91sgarage  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It depends on your definition of stock NA build really. If you're just looking for extra power on an otherwise stock engine, then the corolla manifold is an excellent choice. No other mods necessary although a det 3+ is always going to help as you can then adjust timing/fuel but it won't be a huge amount of bhp gain from the det3 NA. The manifold just bolts on, no welding etc. If your building a full on race NA (head work, cams, lightened and balanced rotating assembly, high comp etc...) the manifold choice may differ if your going to rev it to eleventy thousand rpm lol.

    Hi Dan! I got myself a tubular corolla intake for my 95' 4efe 88hp Corolla which I'd believe is the one with the longer runners and tight turn at the bottom.
    To apply the tubular one, do I need to make a flange for the throttle body to fit with everything working? (I mean IAVC and TPS)
    Thanks in advance!

    • @dan91sgarage
      @dan91sgarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 95 corolla can have either the Starlet long runner, tight turn manifold or the early 95 models used a n/a version of the 4efte short fat runner manifold. If your throttle body has the IACV on the bottom (not a plastic one on the end of the manifold) then the corolla one should fit without any adapters necessary.

    Very informative. Have you looked into a wider throttle body or is that not done for the starlet?

    • @dan91sgarage
      @dan91sgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great question, There are larger throttle bodies that are available: the 4efte is 50mm but has the "wrong" tps and no IACV for the 4efe Starlet ECU to recognize. You can get an adapter to use a variable % tps on it but the IACV will need deleting and cause an extra challenge. The 4efe and corolla manifolds are only a 46mm inlet and will require machining to open them out to 51mm (the 'rolla manifold also needs the flange welding onto the plenum from outside otherwise it will just fall off when bored out!). Apparently there are other TB's from 4AFE that should fit although I have never had one to play with. I think I'll stick with the stock TB and corolla mani setup for now, I also want to swap to fte manifold and stock TB and if necessary add the fte TB to see what changes. It may gain at top end but lose drivability at lower rpm.

    Hallo, I just swapped to corrola manifold on my n/a starlet ep91. TB left the Starlet one 45mm. Low RPM torque decreased and medium range (3500-4500)increased a bit. Should it be the opposite????i mean better low RPM torque. Thanks in advance.

    • @dan91sgarage
      @dan91sgarage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When I fitted a corolla manifold to mine it was the opposite. Increase in low down torque, mid range felt "normal" and it pulled cleaner from 4000 to 5000ish before tapering off to the redline. All done on the butt dyno, best I can describe. Would love to see back to back dyno figures from ep91 manifold to corolla manifold on the same car.

    • @dan91sgarage

      Around 10hp max N/A. Never dyno'd my Starlet but it's the best "bang for buck" increase you can do for an N/A 4efe EP91. It bolts on easily and there is an improvement in low down torque and mine was less "breathless" at the top end as well. It is also excellent for NA+T builds below 150bhp.

      It's a straight fit with the EP91 4efe throttle body. You will need new throttle body gasket and new gasket from manifold to head. You might also need 2 large washers to secure the throttle cable to the metal bracket if you didn't get the plastic adapter included with the manifold

    • @dan91sgarage
      @dan91sgarage  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I haven't! That response was to another comment that has now been deleted by the guy who posted it. Trying to tune a 4efe for big N/A power is a waste of time and money, when they are so easy to turbo for more power. If you have gen 2 4efe engine then the corolla tubular manifold is the best bang for buck upgrade. "Big" power N/A tuning is pretty universal no matter what the engine really, ported head, stronger valve springs, uprated cams, standalone engine management to raise rev limit and control spark and fuel, stronger con rods maybe, corolla or 4efte inlet manifold depending on where you want the power, larger TB, maybe ITB's instead, custom 4-2-1 ex mani, custom exhaust, slightly larger injectors, adj. cam gear, lightened flywheel, CAI. This might get over 100bhp. then its increased displacement (5e) and high comp pistons. Or a cheap turbo kit build for around 140bhp on an unopened engine! 🤷‍♂

    50mm 4AFE throttle body on a FTE manifold = screamer. Sensor is a potentiometer and matches uk 4efe, need to make a space plate to close small air gap though

    • @dan91sgarage
      @dan91sgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The problem with the fte manifold + 50mm TB setup is that the 4efe is a plodder not a screamer. It will lose low down power (where you drive the most) and gain a few bhp at redline (infrequent driving). If the redline could be to 7k rpm+ it might be worth it though. I feel the Corolla tubular manifold or 4efte manifold with 45mm TB provides a "fatter", more usable spread of power for the stock rpm limit. Each to their own. I might get a 4afe TB to compare them back to back on the dyno. Does the 4afe throttle body have the vacuum ports for the PAS idle up function?

    • @dan91sgarage
      @dan91sgarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem is that the acis manifold is virtually impossible to find in the UK and very expensive. How much extra torque do you see over the corolla tubular manifold? Which Throttle body / TPS do you use? Do you have a link to any dyno plots of this combo? Seems like a waste of the short/long runner manifold if you only use the long runners on the low rpm 4e 🤔. It is supposed to provide the best of both worlds on a higher revving 5e.
