- In this video I show you how to program a vin in the Toyota after ecu swap if you need to program the immo security information watch my other video on how you can do that without a scanner . ecu swap after bad trany shifting, no shift transmission won't drive.
Does your scanner only write the VIN to a new/refurbished ECU, or does this also work on a used one pulled from a junkyard?
This video is for those with advanced knowledge because I haven't a clue about most of the technological terms used. They are not explained for those with less knowledge, so the video is no use to me in my efforts to see if I can fit a replacement ECU myself.

Short answer is no, need a fancy tech tool to talk to the computers.

The high- end Launch scanner can write the Vin and most Snap On Scan Tools have the capability.

@@LoshiqBg I found out it depends on the Year, Make, & Model of the Car. You might need a J2534 Passthrough Device.
I successfully Cloned a 2001 Ford Expedition PCM, made Keys, but could not write the Vin. The PCM I Cloned to still has the VIN number from the Donor vehicle. My friend at the Ford Dealer will Write the correct Vin for me. I used a Snap On Verus Pro to Swap the PCM.

The vin # for Honda/Acura engines is a green tag on top of the oil pan facing the fire wall
Nice job man. I wonder if I can rewrite the vin number for my fj Cruiser so that I can change the vehicle specs. Here in Libya we import usa toyotas with usa specs. Ihave heard about programming ECM for ignoring trouble codes those come because of CAT issues. Any ideas?
You can do that, it will be coding and some tuning so you would need the correct hardware (tools) and software

good informative video.....can you write VIN on a swapped ECU for 2001 Mercedes c240 (car runs and drive however, can't pass the inspection like you said coz the vehicle VIN is different from that ECU!).

You need a Scanner capable of writing the actual Vin to the new/ used PCM. He is using a Snap-on scanner in this video with the capability.

@@Moe_510. How in world do these companies advertise plug and play PCM’s when they don’t even have your car? I gave them my VIN #, it’s a 1996 model without PATS system. Do you think the new PCM will plug in and work in my car without using a scan tool?

You need to be granted access to the Car's security system and need a minimum of two keys to program new keys. Otherwise you need to take your car to the Dealership.
What other scan tools can Read / Write VIN? Something LESS EXPENSIVE maybe...

I have an audi a3 with a touran computer box, the car runs but certain things arent working, if I do this vin change on my computer box, will it change the computer box to my correct model of audi a3 and make lead to everything working properly.
Changing the Vin only does nothing for Engine performance. Your cars PCM needs to be reflashed with the latest Configuration files from the manufacturer.

I have an 08 jeep commander... it blew a rod threw the block so I'm swapping it out with an 06 commander motor same size engine .. I believe the egr valve is diffrent so the guy I bought the motor from gave me the ecu to that motor would it work if I rewrite the vin?
It can be programmed properly if the PCM part numbers are identical.
This is done all the time by experienced Automotive Technicians/ Engineers.

I think if you short out the ecu, the scanner will then be able to read or write. He mentions it in the beginning of the video. Ill try with my older snap on.

Do you know if an ECU can be swapped along with UCH and keys without need for programming?
You can’t, plus you’ll want the correct vin and known modules to be programmed otherwise you’ll have issues

Dopamine Ht its stored in the ECM (ECU) and TCM and most of the other modules. You can rewrite vin without full programming by doing a Vin swap or write

Can you please help us we have mitsubishi outlander 2016 dosent start after replacing ECU now the IMMO asking for the following keyless operation system service required.
So that means we need to program the key to the new ECU and we don't have the original ECU to do so.

Hi, i have a 2006 lexus is250 , I have changed the engine to a gs300 3grfse engine, it seems to run fine on the is 250 ecu but I thought i would swap in the gs300 ecu.
I done the 30min ecu reset/pair but it wont start the car.
I am now swapping back to the 250 ecu as I pressume there is a conflict somewhere.
Do I have to re - pair my original ecu to the car ?

Does this also apply to the TCU ( Transmission Control Unit) for VW. On my 2000 VW New Bettle 1.8t, I got error code 18034 (POWERTRAIN DATA BUS, MISSING MESSAGE FROM TCU). I found a used TCU with matching numbers. would it be plug and play?

It's possible. Plug in a cheap code reader and see what Vin pops up.

No, not all Scanners are Bi- directional.

You don't need a J2534 Box to swap PCM's. To Flash yes, for PCM swap, no.

No. There is no such thing as Plug & Play for the Ford PATS Security system. Your cars PCM needs to programmed onsite or at the Dealership.

I purchased this scan tool thinking that I was going to be able to do the vin rewrite but do you scan tool that I got does not have that option where yours is listed. I have software version 14 or something with European added but I don’t see the option to write the Vin. How can I add that function and if you know how much it would cost any information would be appreciated thank you
Its only the american software that does it on solus pro. The updates was better for american cars. European is so so bad. You need the newer models
@@garyhoverington1398 i ended up buying a launch x431 v+ pro. This cost $900.. i was still not able to change the vin on my 2003 ford f150.. i am however able to change the vin on newer cars like my 07 c230 benz and 05 porsche. Im still researching how to do it on the f150..

@@garyhoverington1398 im actually looking at ids now. The version i got doesnt have 2003 f150 series. I have the ids v86 but i dont have the cable yet. I was looking at the red box clone for vcm II but i have to get another version of ids to see if it has the 03 f150.. ill have to look into ktag.

The Solus Pro Scan tool he is using is now obsolete. It depends on what year your car is. If your car is too new, you won't be granted security access to program the minimum of Two Keys requirement.

I read the Launch Torque has the capability. The Launch x 431 Pro does all the programming except it has no Vin Write Capability. Unfortunately I have to use the Snap- On Verus Pro to write the Vin on a Ford PCM Swap.
