Very important moment. That's an understatement. The domestic reception to the BBC's packaging of Italia 90 was the birth of the Premier League and middle class consumption of televised football involving relatable foreign imports such as the 'Professor' Bergkamp. What's often forgotten by the press is that England played some superb football in the semi-final, as good as 96, which Gary has mentioned before. Exceptional, considering their opening performance and subsequent media castigation. Gary returned a hero and I can even remember his tag as the 'housewives' favourite'. There was also a play written about the semi final and Gary's farts smelling of roses! The games against Belgium, Cameroon and Germany will live long in the mind. The last two are worth revisiting.

The play became an ITV drama that Clive Owen was in if memory serves, think it was called my summer with Gary or something like that, and I think Gary got that housewives favorite tag as he was in an advert cleaning a woman's house.
I think a lot of people overlook him on They think it's all over, people forget how popular that show was in the 90's and being on that show definitely got him the match of the day gig as he showed he could be funny but still keep the show running

Even though we lost favourite england game and team. After the nightmare of 70s and 80s with trouble at a lot of games and before things started silly with money and egos.

talking about the germans being class acts, what about our gary? Men dont come much bigger than him. on and off the pitch he has always been a brilliant role model.
if it was wasnt for all the crisp adverts then id consider him a saint.

He’s right about the penalties🇩🇪Beckenbauer made them practice it🇩🇪not to tell you the secret to it bc by now it’s quite a trauma it seems🇩🇪btw it’s all because of the 1966 "goal"😜..🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿💜⚽️💜🇩🇪..what a great rivalry..love it

I don't think Gary should attempt to shoulder the blame for the penalty shootout. What he's saying makes logical sense but he failed to take into account German efficiency during that time. The Germans prepared well for every eventuality while the English had a good time
