2 of my favourite players of all time and both strikers. R9 and Henry. Both complete strikers. They could pick up the ball anywhere on the pitch and go past 7/8 players and score. I love these types of strikers. For as many goals Haaland scores, he has nowhere near the ability of a peak Henry. I remember watching rival fans clapping him off the pitch after he just cooked their team. Brilliant player.
38 year old Londoner here. Non Arsenal fan. This was the only player I was ever shook off before the game. And I've seen Messi, Ronaldo and Ronaldinho live
People talk about Christiano Ronaldo but this here man did it all AND won: 1) a World Cup 2) euro 3) champions league 4) fa and copa del rey 5) premier and la liga trophies And did it all while being an elite goal scorer, passer, dribbler He deserves to be with the top top legends of the game like Maradona, Pele, Messi Underrated in his greatness
@@DanielWilson-bu4cq oh don’t get me wrong CR7 is a great but what I was getting at was that in those debates between who are the goats Henry’s name is never brought up and that’s not fair. That’s all I’m saying. No hate for CR7.

Silkiest of them all. As a kid I hated him because he played for Arsenal but as soon as he went to Barcelona I changed my tune. Definitely deserved the Ballon d’Or over Shevchenko.
What a fantastic compilation. Henry really was the best in the world at his peak 2002-2006 (24-28yrs old). A disgrace they didn't give the ballon d'or to him. Love the contemporary plaudits you used, must've been hard finding all this from 20+ years ago. Wonder if stuff like this exists for Ronaldhino and other 2000s stars.
That’s always my most unpopular opinion and I’m a Manchester United fan but to me Henry has an argument to be the greatest striker ever and in the same category as R9 for sure
R9 peak was too much for probably everyone. Closed to him only Messi and Dinho in the recent years. Henry was and incredible legend, but R9 before the injury was something else..
Him in that arsenal team which were very good anyway, was scary. I used to be scared when United played arsenal because of him, even though we had great players aswell, Henry was on a different level. I also used to try and copy him when i played football as a kid. That meg he did on danny mills for instance was something i tried alot and it works so well despite being quite simple. Nostalgia maybe distorting my view here but Henry at his very best around 03/04 was the best player in the world and is still the best striker the PL has ever seen.
He was the best player in the world from 2003-2004. Many people thought that at the time, including some of his France teammates. He was voted France's player of the year, ahead of Zidane. I can confidentially say that he was the best and most complete striker in the world from 2003 to 2006. And he was at least in the top 5 best players in the world from 2003 to 2006. Injuries and inconsistent form after 2006 dropped him down the ranks but still among the 10 best players in the world. He had one more great season in 2008/2009 at Barcelona where he had vintage performances like the El Classico. Just never had an iconic performance or goal in a finals.
Thierry Henry and Ronaldinho are by far my favorite living football legends, they are the reason I fell in love with football in the first place, they are part of my childhood... Henry should have won at least one or two ballon d'or in the 2003 and 2004 seasons, he was so unique and underrated back then, he was almost unstoppable and genuinely a very good all-rounder authentic player. ☯️✌️
They always have the debate of Henry or mbappe…. Henry all day long, he has everything mbappe has and more, has a ego which you can be annoyed about cause he backs it where mbappe ego makes him a spoilt brat, Henry is a team player and makes the players around him better , if henry was playing in this new generation of football he’d flourish
I think of Mbappe as more of a moments player whereas Henry is more likely to dominate a game. Tbh I think it is close, we can't deny what Mbappe is doing/has done. I agree Henry was more complete. Stronger, better ball carrier, better back to goal, free-kicks, playmaking etc. He'd be unreal in this generation with more structured build up and high lines being so common. But Mbappe is a killer, and will end up with a huge legacy given what he's done for France, and the fact he's going to Real Madrid in his prime.
@@TH14Comps I agree mbappe is an extrodinary player , his numbers when his career finishes is gonna be incredible, but I don’t think mbappe could do it as good back in the Henry error where there was so many world class players, I don’t think there’s many “world class” players atm, but I feel Henry’s numbers would be much more higher if he was in this era
Henry would have buried that chance Mbappe had 1 on 1 against the Austria keeper. Henry is a different level the numbers Mbappe will put up won’t ever surpass Henry natural talent.
Henry missed great chances too bro. I prefer Henry for sure, but it is definitely close between them. It's a mater of what sort of player do you prefer. Henry more involved generally, more complete, while Mbappe is a killer in moments with his quick feet and ability to get a shot/cross before defenders can react.
I grew up having the luxury of being able to watch this guy and he is my number 1 favourite ever player. The truth is you dont hear any striker nowadays being talked about anywhere near the same as they talked about him. You couldnt do a real like this and hear pundits talking about aguero or suarez like this and they were absolutely brilliant strikers - which just tells you Henry was just in a different class. He was the best striker in the world and the fact he didnt win a Ballon D’or is absolutely criminal!
"He's like a laxative he's straight through you, and you're absolute powerless to do anything about it. And everyones standing around going, what the hell was all that" 😅
This is a fantastic idea for a video. Thanks for putting it together. So many of my Spurs friends and family seem to completely underplay Thierry as a player. These videos truly serve as a reminder to the skill of Thierry. The man was quite simply a poet on the pitch. Pure poetry.
@adamgordon2572 That was his best goal ever IMO. Even if Irwin was psychic hed still have to foul him to stop it. His back to goal with the ball rolling to him and literally a half second later its flying on path into the net.
For goals and assists he has to be one of the best to ever do it. I use to watch him play and he was amazing so exciting to watch you just knew he was always gonna do something amazing
Awesome video! back then seemed like a cool time to be around the sport. more of these compilations with top players during that era this is unique content gg mate
I will never, ever tire of watching Henry play. I have never seen anything like it, his ability to run at absolutely full pace with the ball at feet was insane. It felt like the man just teleported across the pitch. I'm not going to get into bests, greatests because people always have thier agenda's and biases. What I will say, is I have never experienced the sense of joy, excitement and bewilderment watching anyone else play football as I did when I watched Henry. I was lucky enough to be a teenager as he was bursting onto the seen, so I got to fully experience it, week by week, game by game. The pace, the skill and the complete inability to score an ugly goal.
Only Messi has had a 20+ goal & 20+ assist season since Henry did it with Arsenal. He was the best striker in the world from 2003-2006 and best player in the world from 2003-2004.
He was the best player in the world for at least two and a half years straight, conservatively. The fact that he didn’t win the ballon d’or invalidates the trophy forever as it was that outrageous.
He never played a pivotal role in a Champions League winning season, or in any Euros or World Cup. Amazing player in his prime but compared to the people like Kaka, Ronaldinho, Cristiano, Messi, Ronaldo, Mbappe.. Henry will always be 2nd best.
@@Fondrom You invalidated your own argument by putting kaka and mbappe above him. Also if you knew who actually won the ballon d’or in 2003 you would at least know that Henry got robbed.
He was literally, unambiguously, pivotal in Euro 2000 lol. Won motm 3 times including the final. Was also important in the 09 CL, even if Messi was the main guy. Played great games vs Bayern and Lyon in the knockouts. Was rushed back for the final even though he wasn't fit. Also carried Arsenal to the 06 CL final. And was good for France in 06 too, even if Zidane shone more.
watching this version of Henry was something else. I remember the confidence i had as a fan that we WOULD NOT lose. every. single. time. this team came up with the goods, even when days were hard. except for the UCL, of course. but 02/03 and 03/04 were unforgettable. i felt untouchable.
andy townsend. if the player misses his shot. andy says "he should be hitting the target from there" if the shots on target but saved, "he should be beating the keeper from there" if he scores, "the keeper should be doing better there". according to andy, whatever happened, something else should of happend.
His movement was honestly so good and he was quick on top of that, but his positioning and dribbling made it even better, at 2:48 the dribble up to that goal most players aren't that controlled at getting the ball between two players like that and he moves his body to use his right most players just use their left. Such a good player.
Monster player. he could do it all and he had that killer mentality the Invincibles were all so famous for. You can see it as he plays. He doesn't just want to win, he wants to destroy you.
Everything he did was exceptional, not only his speed of the ball, but his speed with the ball was the scary part, best player to grace the prem league
I started supporting Arsenal as a kid at around this time because I had older cousins and uncles who supported Arsenal. I don't have much recollection of the live games but I was lucky that one of my cousins always got the end of season goal show/compilations for Arsenal which wasn't easy to do back in those days living in Kenya. Either way, being able to watch back these performances by Henry & the rest of the team in this era was a real blessing. To this day, I still don't know how Henry missed out on the Ballon d'Or.
Nowadays youre gifted football wise to live in Kenya. Every match seems to be on tv here. In Ireland it costs about 140 thousand ksh a year just for SKY.
@@irieite9666 yeah, I've heard about this over the years from a few people I know in the UK but never in Ireland. It's crazy that the people there have to pay for all those different subscriptions to different broadcasters while folks in the rest of Europe & Africa just pay one broadcaster & forget about it. DSTV have done well in this regard over the last 2 decades.
It's still sad that he didn't win the Champions League with Arsenal. Just imagine the image of Thierry Henry lifting the trophy as captain in 2006. The fact that the final in 2004 was Porto v Monaco makes it even more ridiculous that Arsenal didn't win it that year.
I honestly think that they should've won at least 2 UCLs during Henry's time. One in 2003-04 would've been plausible, and the other being in 2006. It would've been a perfect send-off gift in 2006 - with Henry lifting the big ears in possibly his final match for Arsenal, solidifying his status as the greatest player to have ever played for the club and in the Premier League. I think he probably would've left a year earlier if they won in 2006 as well cause he would've won almost every possible trophy there is to win. Not to mention, his chances of winning the Ballon D'or would've skyrocketed if he won at least one major trophy that year.
man had a frightening balance and mix of graceful technique, explosive pace, incredible strength and a reading of the game and opponents that made him a nightmare to play against. as a child, i remember the most frightening thing about him was that he didn't have to play well like that for the whole 90. in 5 minutes he could completely wrap up a game on his own.
There is no other striker like him currently in the world game. In his prime there was Zidane, R9, Ronaldinho, Pirlo, and many more alltime greats. It was stacked with legendary players.
Theirry Henry was one of the greatest players to ever exist he bought in an entire generation of Arsenal fans! He was so special and I’m so happy I got to watch him his whole career basically
Credit to wenger he brought this talent to our club as a winger and seen he was a striker😍 what a pleasure to watch him float around pitch great memories ....
They compare him to Drogba, Rooney, Shearer and Others.. The only point i would make is there was a time he was the best player in the world for 2-3 seasons by a landslide. There was no time at any point in the others careers where they regarded as best in the world, officially or unofficially..
Legit one of the greatest ever strikers IMO, had everything. I don't think anyone surpasses him in the last 30 years aside from Messi, he was a peak at what R9 could have been (and possibly more) had he not suffered injuries.
He is the Best player to play in the Premier League. Ever. He should have Won the Ballon d’Or it was a disgrace he did not. At his peak he was the Best player in the World. I was sat behind him in the stands when he struck his goal vs Man City. Awesome
Just scouring the internet. Tbh for this video it's all mostly from 1 source. There's a channel called DM Arsenal Archives who has uploaded a metric ton of raw footage from match of the day and other such programs, I've just been going through it and decided to make this comp.
someone needs to do a video on why he's relatively so underrated. this guy was literally playing like r9 in the premier league. its not about how much he achieved (and he did achieve), its about the way he did it. He was an absolute specimen of a footballer. Haven't seen anyone like him since.
13:50 as a lifelong gooner, Henry's brilliance aside, a moment to remember the late great Jose Antonio Reyes R-I-P 😥😥😥 One of the Invincibles, gone but never forgotten, nor his impact in the 2004 FA Cup 5th round v Chelsea at Highbury with that screamer at the North Bank end into the top corner to equalise, and then score the winner. Remember those goals like it was yesterday. Silky player & scored some cracking goals in his short spell for Arsenal. Thanks for the memories Jose. Rest in heaven🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I think the description at 3:25 was so accurate, watching this that was exactly what I thought, Henry was to the premiership what the best striker of the lads you played with when you were a kid was to all of you

Silkiest of them all. As a kid I hated him because he played for Arsenal but as soon as he went to Barcelona I changed my tune. Definitely deserved the Ballon d’Or over Shevchenko.
It was a privilege to go watch him live, special player and still the best player ever to play in the PL hands down
The most elegant "fast player" I've ever seen. R9 was explosive, Henry was smooth.
People dont understand he is on R9s level the man had 20 plus goals and 20 assists in one premier league season alone
That’s always my most unpopular opinion and I’m a Manchester United fan but to me Henry has an argument to be the greatest striker ever and in the same category as R9 for sure
Not anywhere close to the skill of R9.
R9 peak was too much for probably everyone. Closed to him only Messi and Dinho in the recent years.
Henry was and incredible legend, but R9 before the injury was something else..
R9 was better. But Thierty Henry was the only striker close to that level.
While R9 might edge out in terms of technical prowess and flair, Henry's consistency and goal-scoring ability make him legendary as well.
Thanks for the video. Been watching this game since the mid 80s. My favorite player ever.
That's a long game
@@TH14Comps mbappe is more direct and explosively driven towards charging down on goal. Henry is a cerebral midfield maestro in an athlete's body.
What a time to be alive to witness the legend himself.

Mbappe.
I remember watching these games on euro sport when I was a kid in Romania. Fell in love with Henry and Bergkamp and Arsenal in instant.
Henry is the greatest player to ever play in England since 1894
Could watch stuff like this all day long, le King.
Liverpool fan, but grew up with a few arsenal fans. Me and one of them would call henry the bullet. He literally had it all, scary talent.
