What's funny is my Father's Pro Series II 850 has this built in and runs amazingly even. My Pro Series 1600 has the gap and is quite a bit hotter on the right side. I guess that is where the II comes in on the name of his. I am going to have to do this mod on my 1600
Yup! All 1000" barrels and above need this modification and they will run as smoothly as all the other models. SMOKE ON

Hey.. i just order one of these for my austin xl. question tho. I was looking at the flame tamer gimmick that goes over top of the fire pot as well. Are you using that with the big square internal plate that has the fire pot hole in it? Or are you leaving that plate out?
Hey there, so sorry for the late reply this comment it must've slipped by. Most people remove the factory installed plate. It doesn't do anything. The flame tamer will sit directly over your flame. Let us know if you have any other questions and thank you for the comment!

This looks awesome, but it also seems like it would get in the way of searing anything. Is there a way to easily sear after smoking? Especially since the pit boss goes out of it’s way to provide those sliding grates to access the flame, it would be great it there was a way to still leverage that functionality.
The heat deflector mod is installed on the very left side of your pit boss where the temp probe is. It does not affect the searing functionality!

Hope this thing works. During my burn off I was getting 100° swings, up 50° down 50° up 50° down 50°.

Just bought my first smoker about a month or so ago and already have a dozen hours on it from multiple short smokes. Being green to smoking, I decided on the Pit Boss Classic which is the Copper lid Walmart exclusive version of the 700FB. After reading the product details, it seems that my 700sq in model may not accept this 1000sq in model deflector. Any plans to make one for the smaller grate size models like the 700 or 820 or am I wrong in assuming it won't fit? Thanks. :)
Hello! The heat deflector mod isn't needed for that barrel size, they come manufactured with the curved piece already, which prevents the fire from blowing on your temp probe. Well i hope there is something good in this vid.i got my old man the austin xl because he used the same grill for atleast 10 years and he said yeah this is easier but he dosnt want easy he wants good

I just got the side and fire pot deflectors. Temps are holding perfect but are reading at about 50 degrees below my desired setting. Is this normal?

What type of shipping is used and from what state...?

Thinking about getting the new PB 1600...... pretty sure it does not come with ur heat reflector. How do I get one and would it fit the 1600 series ? Also , does the grease drain off efficiently on these grills ? With the curved top does the grease accumulate in the very bottom causing a grease pit ?

You're 820 does not have a gap.
