    I bought both, they work awesome. I have the same defuser you have, works great in my Pit Boss Laredo 1000.

    I have had 2 Pit Boss units (austin xl and currently Pro Series 850.The side mod is brilliant idea to eliminate varying temps. I got tired of cleaning the deflector plate when smoking so I started covering it with heavy aluminum foil.This not only keeps the plate clean from drippings,It also diffuses the heat better for more even temps across the grill. I just replace the foil after every 2-3 cooks..Works well.

      Yeah, I was going to ask how often you replace the foil. I do like that idea. Do you have the sear plate? I would assume you just cover it up with foil and don’t use it?

    For the issue remaining I would self buy a stainless steel plate either perforated or solid and do myself some holes with adustable legs with some stainless screws and nuts eg M6/50mm

      That’s a good idea!

    Could you tell me the height of the flame tamer? Thanks

    Try a trager style deflector, it has more mass and made of thicker steel. I use it in a moded PB 700 fb. I have the same deflector in my PB Lockhart you bought, but haven't trsted the grill surface yet!

    You said you might rotate the diffuser (larger openings front to back) and test again. Did you? If so, what were your results?

    • @ZManOutdoors
      @ZManOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      It did not seem to do much from what I could tell. I shifted the hitter spots around slightly but not enough to notice a major difference.

    Does this lengthen the time to get it up to temp. significantly?

    • @ZManOutdoors
      @ZManOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have noticed it takes a bit more time to get up to temp, but I wouldn’t say it was a significant change.

    Did you end up turning it 90 degrees or which direction do you currently have this mod facing? Thanks!

      @ZManOutdoors  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I did end up keeping it sideways, seemed to distribute the heat better in my smoker

    Thanks for the video. Did you confirm if the heat baffle should be removed? I the pictures show the baffle removed prior to the installation of the flame tamer.

      I have kept mine in and it has been good! Talking with others, it seems like some people leave it and some remove it. So not sure there is a right or wrong way from what I can tell!

  • @marcdifrancesco4387
    @marcdifrancesco4387 ปีที่แล้ว

    So... you have to REMOVE it everytime you want to do a sear??

    • @ZManOutdoors
      @ZManOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah you can stick something through the sear plate to move it to the side. I know some people came up with a hook of some sort to be able to move it and pull it back when needed. If you use the sear plate a lot, it could for sure be a pain. I usually only put it on when smoking things though.
