- The final moments of the TVS Broadcast of the landmark "Game of the Century" UCLA Bruins at Houston Cougars battle inside the Astrodome on January 20, 1968, the first college basketball game televised nationwide in prime time.
This was the Greatest college Basketball Game EVER. Truly the Game of the CENTURY.
I remember watching that game. I was 12 years old. Alcindor was no where himself that night playing with an eye injury suffered in a game earlier in the week. Yes. UCLA won the game in the tournament 101 to 69 completely stifling Elvin Hayes.
Let's hope this doesn't get taken down. The full broadcast does exist, but the people who own the rights to the telecast don't want it on here for some unknown reason.
Only the second half is known to exist (unless somebody managed to find a full copy of the game)
The game was on a show hosted by Dick Enberg called " ????? " I forget Sports on this day or something like that .. This was the Game of the century - best game Ever @@nickgazerro292
I saw this on TV then. It was a great game and I recall the court was a few feet high, and players were in danger of running off.
UCLA got payback in the championship semi-final, 101-69.
After the game, Elvin Hayes was running his mouth, claiming that he was the greatest player of all time. However, UCLA and Lew Alcindor (Aka Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) shut his mouth real quick when UCLA Anniliated Houston and Elvin Hayes with a score of 101-69.
