RYCA Motors in Whittier transforms old Suzuki S40 motorcycles into retro cafe racers with its CS-1 kit. With the $2,600 kit, some hand tools and 40 hours of labor, customers can turn a $2,000 used S40 into a high-style bike.

Looks nice, but I'm never sure that kits are in the cafe racer ethos. The whole idea of such a thing is it's something someone does for themselves, on the cheap and in their own way.

Good point on the Triumph. For the same money you could get a used Bonneville or Thruxton and have an arguably better bike with far less work. But, I think with the Ryca, building it yourself and making it your own is half the appeal. The other half is having something unique. Triumphs are a dime a dozen in any city.
This seems like a great kit for someone who'd like to build their own custom, but doesn't have the time or experience to do it all on their own, yet.

I want one of these. Nice review. I liked the rolling shots showing the riding position, and hearing the motor. Thanks.

"It's torquey off the line, but lacks at higher speeds." Maybe you should swap out that giant back sprocket then...

Wow beautiful bike,BUT BUT...... that's way over price. I bought a 1979 Honda CB 450 for $150. It didn't run but that's what you call a project. Dumped $1000 bucks and a lot of weekends into it and now I have a awesome cafe Honda CB for less then $1500!! Yes, I can say when asked I did it all my self along with the help of Google and TH-cam.

Nice looking bike kit, but with the cost of labor, I think I would rather seek out a Triumph Thruxton.

@neothespian cant judge by what bike someone rides. I wanted a bike since I was like 6 finally got one 3 years ago at 22 and been riding daily except one month I after I got hit by a car. Right now I have a vs800 and id love to own a bonnie. And if I could afford one new and still get the sport bike I want then I would. But guess even though all I want is to be able to work in bikes and ride because I would be on a new triumph I wouldn't be a real biker lol

Open air filter just can't work, and she mentioned it that "full speed" isen't working well. One of the things that says this kit isen't pro made. The rear wheel looks "not made" for the Savage. And the exhaust ruins the sound of the engine.

No way can I see justifying $2500 on the kit, you could build this at home with online parts by yourself for a lot cheaper, not to mention there isn't even a back fender

wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy over priced... if you can do some simple fab work your self... you could build this bike for less then $1000 bucks.... including price of bike lol
