Jay is the polar opposite of a snob. He's a humble guy who's done very well and loves to share his enthusiasm for all things automotive. Good on ya Jay, and thanks for sharing!
I appreciate Jay giving these guys some airtime, a plug, and an option for people who may not be welders, skilled in the build-it-from-scratch area, or don't have a garage to work in at-length. In the city, having one's own garage is a rare luxury...
Add to that the sheer hassle of city riding, what with all the traffic and congestion, the only realistic solution is to abandon the city for small-town living where garages are a lot more commonplace and country roads are a lot more accessible. Only there can the motorcycliste be happy!
I was just wowed by the smoothness.
J'adore les Café Racer
Way to go Jay Leno, my level of respect for you just keeps ramping upwards. And the Ryca idea-BRILLIANT!
Yeah I’ve never watched him before, just started seems like a very cool knowledgeable guy
Ive got a 04 Savage and its a awful / painful bike with a sweet engine .....This kit would be Ideal whilst keeping it looking semi - custom .
Love what RYCA are doing........ Saving for the RYCA street tracker.
gotta admit , I love this bike
Jay your doing a great thing, helping others. Love your show:)
Nice bikes.. The taillights look just like the tail lights we use here at our custom shop in China... Great work guys.
Great video. Love the stuff you do Jay.
Jay Leno’s blessing makes it certified cool.
Single cylinder motorcycle is beautiful. Representation of beauty also great
love how Jay is doing more of the talking about the bike and the two dudes are busy trying to look cool with their hands in their pockets
very cool. I always like watching jay on the talking portion of the vids he looks like he is thinking "yadda yadda yadda blah blah blah" ok now the fun part lets go for a ride lol
I want one so bad. Need to save money now. Thank you for posting. I have never been a bike person, but these just look so dam cool and inexpensive to boot.
bigC
Thanks for covering this, Jay. I picked up a savage for a couple hundred dollars, this will make a perfect project for a regular guy like myself. The best thing about the kit, you don't have to purchase it all at once. You can buy each item individually as your time and budget allows.
Ahaha i always see jay riding around my neighborhood riding his bikes and cars with the tops down. Chilling waving at people. Hes the reason why i have this bike now
Some clever lads.
Jay is more excited then them! lol
As a stock Savage owner and a member of the SuzukiSavage web forum, I'm glad to see these guys on your radar, Jay.
Jay, the garage show is great ! thanks for showing me all the things I wanna see. You and top gear! The best!!
Jay needs a custom helmet!
AGREE!! SOMETHING UNIQUE and 'HIM'!!!
Guys! Respect!!! Awesome job!
G'day All, try changing up without the clutch it's much smoother. Just on-off-on the throttle. Lifting up a gear as you throttle off. I've never used the clutch up-shifting, only down-shifting on all the bikes I've ridden. Cheers
Thats great, I hope they do really well. In a couple of years I think I might get a kit myself.
Jay rules. how can you not love this man?
My cafe racer was a 72 Kawasaki S-2 350 . I had it ported and polished, installed clip-ons, rear-sets, a quarter fairing, Denco exhausts, and the crown jewel: a genuine TZ 250 4 shoe front brake. It looked great and ran like stink and I wish I still had it.
In 2000 or so I had a Honda 500 CX which was a Japanese copy of what, a Moto Guzzi? V-twin, mounted sideways with a shaft drive and water cooled. Funny frames meant that people passed on trying to convert them from "Touring machines" to street worthy bikes. I did just about all the things these guys did, except sectioning the gas tank. I pulled off almost 80 lbs of 'trim'.
Of all the bikes I had since the 305 Yamaha Big Bear in '66, the Honda CX was the most fun, reliable and cheap. It got lots of looks on the street and I sold it for just about what it cost me to buy and build when I married a surgeon. No more motorcycles was part of the deal.
i love the show. I really liked this steam car video i cant believe how well it works for the year. Thanks for sharing
I luv how mega-rich Jay wears an old leather jacket when he rides, probably had it for years and doesn"t see the need to trade up!!!!
that chin seen under the helmet?
wow this is my dream bike
my first bike was a savage LS650 I took all the parts off of it that werent important. I would average 60-65mpg all day long. 40hp and tons of low torque. short gears, top speed maybe 85-90mph.
YO! THis is Tyrone, I'm a bouncer at the Pink Pearl. Just wanna say.. Y'all have a delightful thing you got goin on here. Truly that is some serious skill yall got great talent. Peace
Love this bike - I finished mine a couple of months ago. The progression front-end modification gives it some really great handling.
I was riding road bikes long before I was old enough for a license (you could get away with that then if you just used your head and not get stupid). I am a thumper lover, always have been. In 2002 I purchased a brand new Suzuki Savage, I really liked that bike, lots of low end torque and really good gas mileage. I had a problem with mine I never could really fix, and that was if in a panic stop and there was slick or gravelly pavement under you, if you just touched the rear brakes it would drop in an eye blink, too fast to even react. The best help I could get on fixing it was a criticism of my riding skills, which was Bulls#it, I was and am a good rider, this was the only bike I've ever had this problem with. I finally had to almost completely unload my rear brake to stop it from locking at speed cause I was unable to stop myself from using it in a panic situation (muscle memory is a good thing if playing golf, but trying to change it after 40+ years is really tough).
Looks fantastic, I would definitely consider this for a project when I have more time.
Nice job guys ! what a great idea you guys have taking a need and filling it ! and having Jay Leno to promote it you couldn't pay for that you would go broke it 's priceless.
The scrambler looks more my speed. Ill keep it in mind.
I want this motorcycle! So awesome!
my first bike was a Savage, fun little bike - would have loved to have had the option to do this to it. I'd also love to see them do a cafe kit for the Vulcan 500 - a zippier engine just begging for this type of treatment.
I would love to see more motorcycles in the future!
Jay seems like a genuinely nice guy. I wish I could meet him, though he would probably have a good chuckle at my POS ride.
This is amazing advertising for them.
DAMN jay! No gloves??! You wild man, you!
I hate riding with no gloves
I find it cool ! The spirit of a cafe racer...Good job!
This brilliant idea was brilliant for less than a year. Everyone is selling their Suzuki S40/Savage for 3,500 to 6,500 dollars.Even junk is going for 3,000 dollars. Plus the 1,500 to 2,000 dollar kit. Of course Suzuki got on board. You won't be building this kit for under 5,000 dollars. Sell a complete kit with all your own parts from the frame up for under 4,000. That will be a brilliant idea that will last. I do wish Ryca success.
smart AND knows how to talk to people. very good on camera, etc
love the look of the scrambler kit!!. Offer this kit and i'm in.
Nice concept, like the innovative thinking and fun!
love it!
These engines do have a counter rotating balencer so they are fairly smoothe.
absolutely love it. gonna start saving up for my own
Love the bikes. think a gone build one..;-)
Great Bike.. Great idea.. The dude with the long hair is a REAL smart guy. He will go FAR !!!
This is Really Cool.!!
Great idea! I like these guys much more than a lot of Jay's guests.
FANTÁSTICO!
Great work!!!
I really like the cafe racer, and to see you have a street tracker in the works really got my attention!
Ryca needs to start making kits for SR400s!
Do you have one of the new ones?
+orangelion03 also for Honda CB's...
Caffeinated AJ Kott Motorcycles makes great Honda CB Four Cafe Racers.
That bike is pretty damn sweet. :D
I have to admit, as someone who has test-ridden a custom bike with no mirrors on the freeway and peed my pants a little bit trying to merge right, I have mad respect for Leno for just holding it down and only complaining a little bit. It sucks!
Cool bikes. The kit concept makes it possible for more people to drive cool custombuilt bikes. Good!
i gotta get myself one man...this is probably the 10th time i am watching this video since it came out
I want to build one now! :P
great video has alway J love the grey bike..
Just got my 07 c40 this will be a great winter project.
Sure, it's a promo.... however the kits are interesting for the rich that can afford it.... I made my own seat and will continue to make all of my café racer parts due to being financially challenged
It's so nice that 5 year olds have access to the interweb now-a-days. Keep workin' Cameo and you too, can buy a motorcycle one day.
You end up getting a fun, low weight, and reliable bike that's truer to the original concept than the retro-classics major manufacturers are putting out. The scrambler kit bike looks more off-road worthy than the Ducati and Triumph namesakes.
Nice review of a great idea! Love their bikes. Just trying to figure out how to make room for one, lol.
man that bike looks beautiful
Nice conversion, very attractive! I also notice the Arai hat. I have one and it is the most comfortable and I believe safest helmets available.
Love me some Café racers!
4:21 -It's a stretch, but it's kind of Green, 'cause you're recycling . . . something. Lmao
That's a pretty bad-ass add-on kit!!
Later on when the originals are worth a bomb everyone will be buying up cafe conversions and restoring them back to how they were no doubt.
That street tracker, though...it's just cool.
Love the look of these bikes. They took a peace of @#$ bike and made it look a million times better, nicely done.
Mr Leno is refreshingly unpretentious for a man in his income bracket.
The fact the Jay still has an idea of how to save money on insurance and bike conversions blows my mind. He's still based in reality apparently.
Those bikes look so bad ass! I would love to build such a bike.
Same here. He does sort of look like Buzz Lightyear's grandpappy, doesn't he!
I usually hang around to watch the bike though.
Can I have in info on the size of these headlights specially for the red café?
Cool idea - looks similar to Gpx legend in Thailand
Thanks! :)
no idea. doesn't bother me too much though. i like the way a Harley looks and sounds, personally. might have to get a bobbed 48 and a Bagger, someday...
not much for cafe racers but these guys got a great idea
a single man's opinion can only go so far.
i'd love that harley, but im pretty much more inclined to get this bike. or one of those future designs they got. :D
engine size wont really matter to me since i won't take it to the track as much. if racing were to be my *profession*, then and only then will i go with the harley.
i also love the fact that getting this bike would mean supporting the geniuses behind the making and to make more. :D
I just looked at these guys' website... looks like they haven't done much since this episode aired.
a kit for a Honda CB400 to CB-X or Shadow or a Kawasaki KZ would be great as well...nice idea
Naturally, all this cool stuff comes along years after I blew up my Savage ... but I loved that bike. It desperately needs a decent camshaft!!! I ran mine from Savannah to Daytona a number of times, no problem; kept wishing I had one more gear, though, it seemed to rev kinda high. Mine had a Mikuni flat-slide carb and Sportster muffler, which helped it breathe better. The hardtail looks great, but ... chain drive? Yuck, why? Belt drive is clean and hassle-free. Terrific job, guys!
Like that kit. Want one myself!
Kudos to these guys for creating a niche for themselves. I checked out their web site and I REALLY like their tracker and standard. Maybe they'll get into modifying the new SR400 =)
I like how Jay's chin still manages to stick out of a full face helmet at 7:25 in what would cover the entire face of another human being.
This is much more in-tune with the spirit of cafe racers I think. Affordable home built, custom motorcycle. That Champion motor $37k without the bike isn't a cafe racer.
It looks like a nice, simple bike. Suzuki could really take notice of the possible model they already have sitting in their inventory.
I'm in the works of building one. I have a Suzuki S40 frame, engine and fork. The kit is quite expensive, though.
Scrambler? holy damn :D I don't even mind this cafe racer
