  • German lawmakers have voted to legalize cannabis for private consumption. The new legislation allows the limited legal availability of cannabis, but with numerous rules, regulations and restrictions. The government says the main goal of the bill is to crack down on the black market and drugs-related crime. But the move faced considerable opposition from medical associations, the judiciary and opposition politicians.

Sadly not, Cannabis Clubs won't be commercialized. BUT the law will cause less costs when it comes to prosecutions of small amounts, down to 0 for a maximum of 25g in public. So that will effectively result in more money for the state. Act 2 will take some time, but together with the Netherlands I'm sure that we can turn around EU law and make EU-wide full legalization a possibility.

The problems I mentioned in my first post come from regular smoking and it's something no one (besides smokers who quit) will talk about. The often mentioned "studies" on how dangerous certain drugs are will not mention this, because "drive to do things" is not a measurement that can be taken.
If you follow a principle of everybody should know what's best for yourself, you should legalise all the drugs, not just pick one out of the bunch for whatever reason. Also the help an addict gets should be minimised since choosing the miserable addicted life is what they wanted.

As a non-smoking German, I am convinced that this law is a step in the right direction. Gang criminality and violence are completely out of control, and at the same time a huge amount of resources in Police and courts are used to harass people who basically do no damage to others. I had countless uncomfortable encounters with drunk people making trouble. In Germany that is not only normal on Saturday nights, even on Wednesday mornings you have people at the central stations, who are so drunk that they piss themselves. I never had such encounters with people who smoke Cannabis. So why would I want my taxes to be spent on something, that doesn't bother me?
I hope that the Police uses the freed up resources to lower the violence that has exploded over the last 5-10 years.

the 3 plants rule is interesting, but there is a problem with the 25 gram allowed to have rule. we have seen this in Netherlands aswell and there have been lots of courtcases because of it. The problem is that when u harvest your 3 plants you automatically have more then 25 grams of marijuana in your possession which is illegal and u can get in trouble for. the suggestion that u can harvest 3 plants and have less then 25 grams is absurd. also you never know how much marijuana is growing on your plant. and when you harvest the marijuana it is moist and therefor much heavier then when its fully dried. if the police enter your house and they weigh your harvest it will be 3 times heavier then when dry, so a mini mini harvest of a very small plant is going to already weigh more then 25 grams. this will cause problems and like in the netherlands there will be people that are going to be prosecuted for this and they will ask the judge to rule that they are innocent because they couldnt control how much weed there was on their plant etc. but the reason why the policy makers do this is because if you allow people to have lets say 2 kilograms of weed then it will become very easy for criminals to trade and transport weed and this is a very large industry the illegal trade in weed in netherlands / germany , because with the schengen borders being open you can sell easily to people from all over schengen area. for instance in the netherlands police estimate that there is 8 times as much wed grown in the netherlands then consument so all of that is being exported which will also happen with weed grown in germany when they allow this 3 plants in your own house rule.

You ask the right questions but first of all, our Health Ministers approach is based on 2 pillars.
The first pillar is what they put into law right now. Culture Clubs with a subscription model that needs the registration with your ID . 2x25g per month of purchase allowed.
They probably do this to evaluate the real number of users. (Also its 50g allowed at home, 25g in public, but yes, i know what you mean)
The second pillar will follow after 2 years of evaluation of the first pillar. Supposedly with licenced shops. More differentiated laws for driving under influence. (how high can the bloodconcentration of THC be, after it is illegal to drive etc.)
3 Plants is actually not that much, if you grow it the normal way, without heavy usage of fertilizer. Around 75-100g per plant dry.

i understand they will evaluate and make changes. but i think there will definetly be problems with how much are you allowed to have in your house and grow in your house. for instance in the US when they had the medical marijuana rules u also had the situation that growers could grow like 5 plants orso per medical marijuana user that signed up to them. and this ment that they would try to maximise the amount of weed per plant with like enormous trees with more then a kilo of cannabis dry per plant. @@patrickdergroenr1247
