After partial cannabis legalization, what are the pros and cons? | DW News

  • A new law partially legalizing cannabis has come into effect in Germany.
At midnight, hundreds gathered in central Berlin to celebrate the moment. Under the legislation, people over 18 can now possess up to 25 grams in public for personal use and cultivate up to 3 plants at home. But the legislation has its critics, who point to health and law-and-order concerns.
Germany's conservative opposition says they'll revoke the law, if they get into power.

Since Netherlands decriminalized it but the Shops get their Weed still Illegal & with in Germany still quite a big Opposition from Parties CDU/CSU, AfD, parts of the SPD/Greens (that in the end voted ok), Doctors Association++ against it,their had to be made many adjustments to the law and all some month again reevaluation of youth protection got better, smoke more people or less, how much grams are needed, more or less++

It's been recreationally legal for years in my US state and it's been nothing but a boon. Granted the leaders aren't using the HUGE piles of new tax money they're getting from it as well as they could be but the businesses it's started and the jobs it's created. Like for eg in my lol populated state of Maine in the US and in my city that's about 19k has a couple dozen small cannabis businesses and 90% of them are locals growing here and selling it in their satellite shops.
I tell ya, it's really nice to be riding my motorcycle, bicycle or car with the windows down in the summer and smell the fresh cannabis in the air when I go by each shop. And know I can swing in and grab something real quick with no hassle. It's literally a dream that came true.

Tbh, it is one judging from how it impacts the brains habit forming circuits (i.e. dopaminergic pathways in the basal ganglia, if you care for that sort of thing), smoking from a youngish age onwards leads to lasting changes in how your brain works. Making you more receptive to other potentially addictive stuff.
Nonetheless, I think the illegality has actually been a huge factor it in acting as a gateway drug.
If you smoke weed, and think "wow, this is actually quite fun", and are fine the day after, even when it happens after months you might seriously consider, whether there are other drugs also not as harmful as they are made out to be. So, the illegality of cannabis might have actually led many ppl to experiment with other illicit substances.
I am glad, cannabis is decriminalized.

Next in the pipeline : psilocybine. There re already approx. 20 companies listed on the Canadian TSXV stock exchange that are developing products from psilocybine (magic mushrooms). Many are aiming at offering micro-doses eg. small doses that only alters very slightly the perception and senses. Some mainstream newspaper are already telling about the benefits of psilocybine. The population is being prepped. These products will very likely follow the same steps as cannabis : first for therapeutic ueses, then legalized for the masses.

That is not true. I support legalization, but like alcohol, there should be restrictions to smoking while driving and like cigarettes in the U.S. at least, there should be no smoking designations at certain places.
Those who smoke and drive are causing carnage. They are either over chilling to the point of causing major backups as they crawl through the streets. I am talking up to 20 miles under the speed limit. Then there is the smoke itself. It smells like an overripe dead skunk and the smoke that billows gets non smokers high and puts even more people at risk.
Like alcohol, smokers are impaired when they smoke. Common sense needs to be put into consideration as well and unfortunately will have to be put into law at some point because some people don't have it.

To clarify this and other comments here.. Yes it is forbidden in train stations and there its also somewhat regulated definitely heard people (like those working there) telling others to stop. Bus stations etc. is almost impossible and to ban it in Parks (someone said its already illegal i never heard of that nor have i ever seen someone doing something about it) is from my point of view just cruel, as it's one of the best places to smoke (again in my opinion). I think we can't just look at ourselves and say "I don't ever want to experience this because I don't gain everything from this" public spaces is for everyone. Someone can be loud someone can smoke someone can pee somewhere and it'll smell bad... it's something we deal with in life and are minor issues so just because something is slightly annoying, doesn't mean it should be banned. We can always move to a spot we rather be as we always do with things we don't like. As long as it's open air and away from (most) children I don't know why it should be bad. Someone who never drives will also find a lot of inconveniences because of it but it would be ridiculous to say it should be banned where I live because i personally don't like/need it.

Dude, there's alcohol and tobacco ads on billboards throughout town, selfservice cigarette dispensers on the streets and smoker's rooms/areas at every public building, cigs and alcohol out in the open at the freaking counter in every supermarket, you can buy hard liquor anytime anywhere and consume it anytime anywhere - that's not telling young people that it is okay to take (some) drugs, but some law they won't know anything about? It's even prohibited to smoke weed in the immediate vicinity of minors and in most public places, which I find a good thing btw, so even less chance for them to get in contact with weed. If the conservatives actually cared about (the health of) young people, the rest of their program would show that - alcohol and tobacco would be much harder to acquire and much more hidden (especially tobacco, blegh), they would not have blocked the law limiting what ads can be run in between children's shows and they would actually invest in young people instead of siphoning as much capital as possible to their CEO buddies.

Ever since cannabis has been legalized in Minnesota (USA) drug dealers have either had to get real jobs or sell harder drugs to new customers they don't like. Everyone would rather get it from a store or shop than some unregulated person. Tax it for Healthcare.

50 grams is not a lot for a month supply imo. Some people have higher tolerance. I for example go through close to 2 ounces a month probably when including the concentrates and the flower needed to make that.
When i used to grow i had to grow a lot more than 3 plants because their harvest cycles dont line up to what you would need to support yourself.
You cant have a plant perpetually flower they grow their flowers all at once in cycles and you want the crystals to get a foggy bronze color before killing the plant
I also have had single plants put out more than 2 ounces at a time which means people would be criminalizing themselves while trying to be in compliance and maintain a self grown weed supply
