  • Join The Humboldt Seed Company's Chief Science Officer - Ben Lind and Dr. Machel Emanuel on a Pheno hunt of the "Caribbean Queen" aka "Pure Sativa" in the Caribbean
This preservation landrace project is over 7 years in the making and today you get to come with us as we see the results of selective breeding and preservation of the Caribbeans Landrace Cannabis Strains.
A Pheno hunt film about the Rastafari Church on the Caribbean island of Antigua and Barbuda with the Humboldt Seed Company and Dr. Machel Emanuel
Film by Home Grow TV - @HomeGrowTV
Episode on Home Grow TV Channel: • How Rastas reclaimed A...

    Dr. Machel Emanuel: / machelemanuel
Home Grow TV IG: / homegrowtv
We dive into the history of Cannabis in the Caribbean the history of Landrace genetics from the region and talk about the "Pure Sativa" aka "Caribbean Queen" Landrace Preservation Project.
Genetics from the Caribbean. For the Caribbean and pheno hunting for a better future.
We tag along with the Humboldt Seed Company as they pheno hunt through hundreds of the landrace preservation of the Pure Sative / Caribbean Queen. (Cannabinoid and Terpene tests with the NEO SPECTRA)
We get to sit down with Prophet Rohan from the Rastafari Church of Antigua and Barbuda and hear a little about the connection to cannabis as a plant and religious practice.
The Trip wouldn't be complete without getting to meet Regis Burton, the CEO of the Cannabis Authority of Antigua and Barbuda. We get the low down on the laws in Antigua (the first Caribbean country to legalize cannabis for religious purposes)
Cannabis was finally back in the hands of the Rastafari and the world needs to take a page from the book of Antigua and Barbuda's Cannabis Policy.

Humboldt Seed Company is a cannabis seed company based in the U.S. state of California. The company was founded by Nathaniel Pennington in 2001 in the Emerald Triangle of Northern California.
The company holds a database of Cannabis phenotypes covering thousands of individual plants, and an inventory of their seeds or living plants. Samples were obtained starting in 2018, in "phenotype hunts" with the participation of California growers.
In 2022, it was the first company to register autoflowering cannabis in Colombia.
Also in 2022, the company created the first scratch and sniff cannabis product packaging, incorporating terpenes matching the sealed contents.

I havent smoked/vaped weed regularly in 2 years. Went from age like 15 to 35 being an almost daily smoker(vape flower) to not using anything anymore. One thing i miss the most about it is that compassion the rasta is talking about. I've been with my wife since i was 16 years old and a lot of the fights we used to have in our mid 20s that couldve broke us up were fixed by weed. I'd use marijuana and think to myself "Man i need to go apologize, that was messed up" when you're sober you dont really use that compassionate side of your emotions. It might creep in every now and then when you give a homeless guy a dollar or something but thats just for you to feel good more than anything. Marijuana gives you REAL compassion where you want to do good without anything in return. You just want to see happiness on someone else.

Words are so on point. It’s hard to get these words out knowing how most people believe that the whole marijuana is medicine is just a front for legalization. I too was on that. But as I got older and quit smoking and then return back to it and see the benefits that has helped me that I lacked when I quit. Your words is something everybody should see. And hopefully have the chance to experience the help that the herb brings. Very spiritual plant that helps the mind and brings happiness and can bring a percentage of peace in this world.

The world has more than enough Gelato x Gelato x Gelato x Gelato x Gelato. We don't need to erase every remaining unique genetic by crossing it with the same boring purple weed you can't escape. It's been going on since the 70's and 80's. It all started with the move to indoors. These landraces can't/don't/won't grow indoors. They are just too much and take too long to flower. Granted I agree the market is flooded with too much indica bud.

No, it has not been going on. In many places in Latin America we have preserved our genetics. Anybody who smokes some Cookies, Mints, an all that mostly DurbanKush types of crosses, who has a proper take on a 16 to 24 weeks flowering sativa NEVER goes back to those California strains. That is not to say that there isnt any value in modern cannnabis and hybridization, but it is being done wrong. I don´t know what is superfruit but I bet that those plants wont survive on a very rainy season. The smaller antilles are not rainy enough like the Greater Antilles. Most of these plants are way too dense to be grown in 80% of Puerto Rico, for examples, besides the southeast of the island, and they will bud rot on those islands as well on a very rainy season. This is why we have open strcutured buds on our pure sativa plants. It is also why we can smoke all day, have absolutely no comedown that drags us down to munchtown with a couchlock. If ANY non local genetics are to be added, they should be strains like Neville's Haze, Neville's A5 Haze, Panama, Colombian Gold, Oaxacan, Punto Rojo, Honduras Sativa, Guatemalan Sativa, Xacatecas, and maybe Skunky types that take after their Colombian side, but not this 60% looking sativas. That is, if you want to preserve and say that you are preserving. If you are not, dont say you are and just grow your bland 2 hour high California wedding cake cookie triple platinum kush. What a waste not to know how to value a 20 week flowering strain. I my self am growing only Thai and Colombian pure sativas in Spain and in Puerto Rico.I would not trade bieng high as a kite with absolutely no paranoia and zero body. I work, I train, I don´t over eat, and I certainly don´t stay at home under a blankett. That is not weed for caribbean people.@@timothykappel198

Yo! excited to watch this... I'm in Cali, and the first crossing I facilitated a few years ago, was when I grew a bunch of "Guatemala Quetzalita" beans from Cannabiogen, and they all turned out male. I kept them on my sideyard and eventually collected as much pollen as I could from all of them. Then I took a flowering XJ-13 clone I got from Harborside dispensary years ago, and dusted its pistils with the pollen. The plant was pregnate with seeds and I had my first, very sativa cross, with Jack-like traits which I love. I still have some of those seeds, but have since woven its descendants together with some TGA Galactic Jack plants, and maybe another strain or two. Now I have some weird collections of seeds that I am endlessly excited about growing, with very JAck-ish tropical/candy terps, and better PM resistance than any "clones" I tried to grow in the early gardening years. Let me know if you guys want some of my beans!!! No strings attached, just want my seeds to have a future and contribute to the great weaving of Cannabis and its evolution into greater and greater surprising awesomeness! 💖

I grow outdoors at 5k feet in the high desert. Usually a very short season and I would put my bud up against any indoor bus.
I have tried to enter the Cannabis cup, but I'm usually just getting ready to harvest at that time.
I am usually finishing up mid to the end of November.
My strains are mostly Indica with a little sativa and are acclimated and will survive temps to down to 20° F as long as they dont get wet.
I use local soil, sand and rocks w/ organic liquid fertilizers in a very weak tea about once a month.
The rocks and lake bottom sand take care of the trace minerals.
I also add some of the shale that is on my property.
I have a Green Crack strain that is x with Lemon Haze that I am gonna try this year.
The Green Crack I grew needed to go longer so I'm hoping the x with the Lemon will make it finish faster.
It came out okay, but the buds could have filled out a lot more.
About 40 years ago when I first started I had seed that I had collected and were given to me.
1 Plant was a pure Sativa that grew over 15' and had all these dense little purple buds all over it.
It was probably the best sativa I have ever smoked and I have never seen it again, and probably won't since everything is crossed with something else.
It must have been a landrace from Thailand or India is my feeling. Somewhere in that area.
Cold temperatures and dark nights make magic happen.
I used to come to Redway a lot around 20 years ago.

@@warriorpoet9629 I'm from Victoria and I am still yet to get my hands on any legal medicinal herb, but I have heard that a large majority of the medicinal available is not of the highest quality unfortunately, and I wouldn't be surprised if most of it is just grown indoors with synthetic fertilisers like how it's done in the legal states across the US, which is probably why the taste of the weed has that shitty antiseptic taste to it. I'm not so certain on how healthy or safe the current popular methods of growing both medicinal and legal cannabis here in Australia and everywhere else is in the grand scheme of things, all of it is sourced from these companies and grow labs who are all pursuing this exact method of growing indoors with hydroponics & synthetic ferts, most of it is usually Indica which has a much shorter grow duration compared to sativa plants which is better for profit turnover. There's no doubt this most common and widespread method which floods the market with synthetic fert/hydroponic grown weed does in fact produce a very high THC content on average which definitely helps medicate people, but I think it's just a popular method for a guaranteed cash crop, and I have no problem with this sort of stuff for recreational purposes because it doesn't just get you stoned it fully makes fried, which I personally don't mind too much because it also resembles the majority of what is considered as really good premium black market weed that is available here in Aus, but honestly from what I'm seeing the medicinal doesn't even beat a good reputable dealer who gets on to good quality premo. It would be great to have access to legal all organic outdoor grown weed because it's always been far more effective for medicinal purposes, and the average person can function better on it compared to the typical super potent medicinal/dispensary weed everywhere at the moment.

I think the pushing out of experienced grower's by the new taxations (in California for instance) has harmed the genetic base and helped cause a lot of the toxic mildew problems. Commerical anti-fungals are also toxic. Outdoor grow is an important part of mildew free growing and many cities outlaw outdoor growing. It is good to know someone is doing the work of trying to produce disease free cannabis strains. There should be a heightened awareness of that.

I rather stay with my 16 week flowering central american sativas with a bright crystal clear high with absolutely no comedown than these afghani filled Californian genetics. They are not suitable for the people and they ar enot suitable for the climate. Antigua is small and a lot drier that the continental central american countries or the Greater Antilles. The trick I have always used to get quick samples dry while minimizing the damage to the flavor/smell terps and potency is to use a paper bag and a hairdryer that has the air blow only setting. It's very important that the hair dryer has the no heat setting. Place the herb in the paper bag and lay down the bag. Then turn the blow dryer on the highest fan setting, but with no heat and aim it at the opening of the bag so it's filling the bag completely with air. Depending on the humidity outside, you can go from fresh picked to smokable within 2-3 hours. If you want to rush it a little bit, turn the heat on the hair dryer for short periods, but don't do it for too long. The rushing air is enough to dry out the herb without much damage.

Humboldt seed company iv been breeding with jamaican landrace since 2018 and you say you are trying to produce something that can survive hot climates... in reality those jamaican genetics came from India and you will find like mine did my strains grow in snow and cold environments.... if Jamaica is having trouble they should breed with Kongo buds and hotter climate buds... the jamaican landraces love cold. Also the real jamaican landrace seeds like I got were not hemp ones, it was the cannabis east India trade company sent to Jamaica with the slaves to keep them docile and controlled, the real stuff is the original slave weed and that will put you out for hours!! I know cuz I grow breed and smoke it. Seeds I got were from a friend who's family grew the specific seeds since they were brought to the island as slaves.
