WOW!! My 1966 Dodge Coronet 440 family four door sedan was not this fancy at all. If I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again; MOPARs were so far ahead of their time.this is a great car. Thanks Lou & Greg for a wonderful Saturday morning treat. Such a beautiful car!

Of all the 'finned" cars made, I feel the 57-59 Dodges were the best looking of that group. I can not imagine how happy someone could be to have bought one of these brand new. I am sure that for this second owner that feeling was almost that good. Too many were lost forever when fins went out of fashion (in addition to rust). It is greatly appreciated and enjoyed when someone has kept like new or brought cars like this back to when they were new. Thank you to the owner and to Lou.

Thanks.. good thought: my Parents had the 59:Coronet Nine Passenger Wagon ( loaded exc air Conditioning): admittedly the CONV & Regular 2 Dr ; esp D’s, RED **ENGINE ,a/c,TRIM, OPTIONS,ARE great, swoopy *& decorations, *&& colors!?? I quickly got out of driving the big Wagon,as Dad found 54 Ford /57 Engine/4 BBL/ dual;; custom mild, for me to date & drive to friendly Garage &/Service Station Hang Outs(* in those Days spent LOTS OF TIME there)……admittedly I coveted a BLACK 57;CHEV FEULIE/ CONVERTIBLE, ALAS , “SECOND”,the SupeR d500 DODGE CONV LOADEDETC(**/a Fairlane SPECIAL. 500 Interceptor , Black ( not avail CONV., ), would have been **third….. those were the Days….

...wowzers, Lou...Greg's labor of love for his dad surely came out looking terrific...
...in Flame Red and Glacier White...this '57 just perfectly epitomizes Virgil Exner's crew at Royal Oaks going "whole hog" in on the "Forward Look"...
...the Dodge models always had a bit more decoration, but this Coronet has a chrome addiction...my god, it's everywhere you look on this impressive soft-top...the find, the side spears the massively decorated grille and the windshield surround...amazing!!
...this hugely impressive D-501 had a very robust 364cid/5.8L Hemi, which were leftovers from the '56 Chrysler 300B production....which set you back in your seat, Mr. Viperman...
...no treats in that cavernous trunk...but there IS foil coated insulation ( have no idea why...)...
...this terrific Dodge of Greg's just makes me crave a strawberry sundae with whipped cream and a cherry....sweet ride...
...thanks Lou, you always find the pretty ones...

Cars are made to be driven and enjoyed not just put on display at car shows. If you let them sit too much things start to go downhill. Dodge built a stylish car in the mid to late 1950s.

  • @cheekydemon6131

Fintastic ride!! Fins, two tone paint, white wall tires, lance and knight badges, chrome everywhere, sparkly gold silver interior, beautiful steering wheel and more than enough power under the hood. So clean there too. Pure opulence on wheels. I guess Dodge actually wanted to build a yacht, but changed their decision to a car in the last minute. The two antennae are like from a speedboat too 😄 The hood decorations give the car a sense of swiftness 🚤🌊, really super ornaments. The tail lights are so '50s, just great design ❤️

The man who ran our local Esso station had a 1957 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer 4-door in two-tone blue. He parked it next to the highway and I saw it often and always liked the Virgil Exner styling and those spinner hubcaps. Hi, Lou! Jimmy Buffett must have been enthralled by the autoscape around him as a kid, especially with these 1957 Mopars. Fins to the left and fins to the right! That year's Dodge (and also the '58s) were described as "Swept-Wing", and you could get it painted four ways: 1) in solid shades, 2) two-toned with the second color on the roof only, 3) two-toned with the second color on the roof and fins, or 4) two-toned with the second color on the roof, fins and lower body as on Greg's car. And the way the parking lamps were juxtaposed with the headlamps (the Plymouths also had that arrangement) was an ideal way to make it look like it had quad headlamps even though it didn't, as those were not yet legal in all states. (They were by the time the '58s arrived, and the '57 DeSoto, Chrysler and Imperial could have either two or four lamps.) As you said, a parade on wheels all by itself!
Greg has paid a wonderful tribute to his dad with this one! Thanks to both of you for showing this to us!

Great way to start off my weekend. What a wonderful car. I like how you refer to it as "a parade on wheels". Greg has really done a terrific job on the restoration. It must have been challenging to secure the necessary parts given the rarity of this particular model. As always, great segment Lou and thanks for bringing these unique vehicles to your viewers.

Thanks, Greg (g) & Lou, great overview of MOPAR; actually i had forgotten about the Dual Carb/ Options of Mopars ( rumour has a few Fuel INJ/&;Special **Plymouth’s ) were sent out also, etc. Anyways, interesting about first New Car buy: mine too as: 1970 CORONET 500/ 383 Dual Snorkle( no a/c) in summer 1970: a fast car.. Interestingly, my Parents had the 1959 CORONET STATION wagon Nine Passenger( I unsure of “V8,big engine,”as Dad got me a 1954 Ford 2DR/57 V8:**Engine/ 4 BBL/ **mild custom etc) that I got OUT of , needing for driving/ Dating (( when your 16, the Dodge May be fast, but prefer not being seen in Station Wagons!!!)…& I was NOT YET A CAR NUT! ps: the neighboring dealership in 1970 was fascinating ,for me:promos, AMC’s, racers, etc. … PPSS: some id the odd & really rare station Wagons are really RARE & interesting: e.g. Hemi’s, 4 SPD/, 428s, Interceptors, odd Options…., …thanks again.

I've always loved these cars from the forward look era of Chrysler . I've had several cars and have an original survivor 57 Plymouth Belvedere 2dr hardtop. The 57 Dodge is another car I'd like to find especially a D-500 series. That convertible is nice.
