On "My Car Story" we're in the West Suburbs of Chicago IL on 8-13-20.
We're looking at a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible in Matador Red Paint. The car comes with the factory 283 CI V8 engine with “dual quad” carburetors producing 245 HP.
The car's Owner is Ken Nagel. Ken’s had this car since 2006. He shares he had four 1957 Chevrolets at one point, and really relates to this car. This one looks “showroom” new.
If you're interested in seeing this car in Ken's collection, see this link.

ENJOY!
I sometimes fool myself to say my NEW ultimate favorite classic is something other than the 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air, but I always come back to it. Every curve in the body and trim piece just right. It screams "1950's". I remember, as a kid in the late '70's, a neighbor had an older relative that would visit in a MINT original black/white/red '57 Bel Air coupe. I'd ride my bike back and forth past it in total awe. I always wondered what happened to it.
Hi Joseph, Easy to come back to the great design of the 1957 Chevrolet :-) Happy to read this one brings back memories of the one in your neighborhood, Lou
Thanks Lou for this video on the 1957 Chevrolet Bel-Air. It was my dad's car I remember of by 1959 ( was 3 years old ). We had a bright yellow hard top basic model with L6 engine standard. My dad traded it in for a 1961 Chevrolet Impala, automatic, another Chevy classic. My last dad's car was a 1995 Cavalier. He passed away by 2008. Thanks for the ride on the 1957 Chevy Bel-Air ! Great memories. Congratulations to its prowd owner.
You're welcome Juan. Happy to read your Dad had a 1957 Bel-Air :-)
PURE ART! Thank you for sharing!!! As for the horn, as my Wife would say "Horn blows, does the driver?" 😂😂😂
Hi Beast 1624, High praise for this car that is "PURE ART!" :-) You're welcome, Lou
Man i love classic cars. Im a Gen Z and man i wished i lived through the early to mid 1900s. I know people will say that it’s probably the worst time period but there was so much that went on that makes it desirable

The book reading may have taken a bit, but at least we got some nice little facts on such a legendary car!
Usually if the Car Care Taker has taken the time to find this info, I like to take the time to share it. Kinda like a history lesson :-)
@@loucostabile Agreed. It was awesome to learn about the '57 Chevy Bel Air!
Let's be honest the 57 bel air is one of the top 10 designs in automotive 🚗 HISTORY. 283 engines were underataed. Thanks for showing
Yeah
Hi Keith, I agree, when you think 1950's car, the first one that pops in my head is the 1957 Chevrolet. My pleasure sharing this one with you. You're welcome, Lou
Dual quad’s on a 283 amazing!
Hi Paul, Thanks for viewing & sharing the detail you enjoy from the video, Lou
I think some folks forget how many variants were available for the 57 model year. I love old books like that. Keep em coming Lou !
Hi Chris, Happy to read you're enjoying the "trunk & treats" section of the video :-) Thank you for sharing what you enjoy, Lou
I love the brochure, a journey into the past...... what a car
Hi Michal, Happy to read you enjoy this car and the "trunk & treats" too :-) Lou
Enjoyed the brochure and the car Lou!
Hi Paul, Thanks for viewing & sharing the detail you enjoy from the video, Lou
The 57 Belair, a true classic !
"a true classic !" well said :-)
I love this STUNNING & AWESOME BelAir! WOW! It feels like I'd gone back in time, during the 50s. Such an OUTSTANDING & BEAUTIFUL vehicle of yesterday. Red is relatively the BEST color for convertible. Beautiful whitewall tires and Magnificent Mag Wheels, one of a kind mags. The dashboard is Gorgeous for having an Exquisite chrome all over. SPECTACULAR engine, the air cleaner is of course, very clean. the spare tire compartment on the rear, looks like a 50s pin up female model, very sexy. The sound of the engine is INCREDIBLE. Thank you for Sharing Lou, you're the Man! and of course the owner, Mr. Ken Nagle. You guys rock!
Hi Vern, High praise for Ken & his Cars :-) Glad to read you "I love this STUNNING & AWESOME BelAir! WOW!". My pleasure sharing this car with you, and you're welcome, Lou
Hi Lou, That is such a great car. I’m usually not a fan of continental kits but this one is stylishly practical and makes sense. It’s curious that such a highly optioned car would not have power windows, one would think this would be a perfect candidate for this feature. Whatever the case I got to agree with Ken, it is and will forever be, the iconic 50’s car. 👍😉
Hi Terri, Hmmm, no power windows, I didn't notice that at first. Good observation. Happy to read you enjoy this "great car" :-) Lou
What a wonderful car to wake up to this morning thank you Lou
Hi Bob Bob, Happy to share this one with you :-) My pleasure sharing this one, and you're welcome, Lou
That Foxbody in your avatar is not too shabby itself! An 85 I presume?
Holly Molly~! Stop Light Prism~~ Vacuum activated Smoke Jar thing! side skirts... list goes on & on~! Beauty
Hi Dan, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this one :-) There are quite a few options for sure, Lou
Wow Lou as soon as I saw that road and the 57 Chevy I knew it was Mr. Nagel's car. His cars are so unique and special and just like brand new each one of them. I enjoyed seeing all of Mr Nagel's units. I hope he has more to show us as I love hearing his stories on each unit. He sure is a awesome person and I love his trunk and treats in each vehicle. That ride along looked like so much fun I really enjoyed that. Just a outstanding unit Lou! Thanks as always for sharing with us!
Hi Steve, "as soon as I saw that road and the 57 Chevy I knew it was Mr. Nagel's car. His cars are so unique and special" I agree. You're welcome. Good news! He has more, so stay tuned, Lou
Wow, dual quads w/the Batwing! You don't see those (or a fuelie) too often, unless you are friends with Mr. Nagel, of course! And what a perfect day for a little cruising in style, too. Thanks, Lou!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, Happy to read you appreciate the rarity of this engine option :-) Glad to share this ride with you. You're welcome, Lou
Great review and beautiful 1957 Chevy! Ken sure has a stunning collection. What a great curator of classic cars.
Love the Trunk & Treats - I always have a soft spot for old brochures, ads and manuals. Very reflective of a much different era.
Thanks as always Lou!
Hi Jeff, Happy to read you enjoy this review :-) When the Care Taker has taken the time to find the brochures, I (like you) like to see them. Feels it right to keep them with the car. You're welcome, Lou
Once Again Another Awesome Lou Costabile Video !!!..I Totally Agree with Ken Nagle n' Yourself ..Lou ..that the 57 Chevy is the Most Desirable /Sought After Car Ever Produced In The 50's , perhaps even to date , in my opinion ..as I can truly attest to this as I have proudly owned my 57 Chevy Bel Air 2 Dr Sedan for the past 47 years, although I've updated its suspension , brake n' steering system (Safety Wise), I retained it's body classic design, cuz no matter what one may/might try ...to improve the 57 Chevy Styling/Design/Lines ....It Can Never Ever Be Improved ..because ever since "the Debut of All the 1957 Chevy Models ...They were Already...PERFECT= PERFECTION!!!...She's Definitely a Keeper Ken!!, She's Absolutely Gorgeous!!
Hi JACKBUD, Happy to read you have an awesome car too :-) Glad to share this one with you, Lou
Beautiful car and what an awesome collection this man has he’s living my dream

Magnific classic car! Congratulations, thank you Lou!
High praise :-) You're welcome DCA RAIL AND CAR
Hi, Lou! Yes sir, the '57 Chevy, the definitive Fifties car, indeed! My dad was in high school when the '57 Chevy was new, and he had one a few years later when he was serving in the Navy. His was a Bel Air Sport Sedan (4-door hardtop) which he sometimes raced. Motor Life magazine's review of the '57 Chevy was "Never has it had so much to offer. And as a matter of fact, never has it needed it more." What this meant was that the competition from Ford and Plymouth was never tougher. The Chevy was a third-year facelift, while Ford came out with a new look that the buying public apparently thought looked more fresh, and although it seems ironic now, Ford actually outsold Chevy by a fairly comfortable margin. And the '57 Plymouth was practically the newest thing on wheels, so while it wouldn't match Chevy's or Ford's sales level, it probably stole a lot of attention too. But neither the Ford nor the Plymouth was built to last as long as the Chevy, so bowtie fans had the last laugh and, ergo, we have a lot more of the Chevys to go around today. I think this is what Elvis would have driven had he not been able to afford a Cadillac, and from what Padme Amidala has said below, the appeal of these cars is still resonating even with Gen Z!
It seems to me Ken's taste in classic cars is very simple. He looks for only the best! Glad you had such a beautiful summer day to enjoy the ride in this most iconic of collector vehicles!
Hi iswc27, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Dads car :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and glad you're along for the ride, Lou
Excellent video Lou and a beautiful BelAir! Thanks for sharing the Trunk n Treats as well! Most interesting!
Hi Rob, Happy to read you enjoy this video :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, and you're welcome, Lou
Ken is a cool fella with some damn fine cars
Agreed :-)
Beautiful '57 ! Ken always brings the goods... :) Thanks Lou !
Hi Uncle Rudy, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) You're right, Ken's cars are all good. You're welcome, Lou
Another great video Lou! I really appreciate your taking the time and effort to share the dealer's manual with the viewer. It's sentimental for me because the '57 Chevy has always been my favorite car, I was born that year (5/26), and I have a beautiful red 1:12 diecast model of the car that was $500 back in 2004. I have some beautiful ads for it on my walls, too. Having said all that, there are some things I'm unhappy seeing on '57 Chevy's here on TH-cam, and at past car shows. They are: the damn fender skirts, the continental kit and how it ruins the clean look of the car in the back, the ugly vertical bumper guards up front and sometimes in the back, and those geeky side mirrors on top of the fenders. I realize this car did NOT have those (mirror looks great) but most of the options mentioned prior to that. Yes they were options, but shouldn't have been for this car. It's too much. It's unattractive to an otherwise gorgeous car, and takes away from that. Here, less is more.
Hi Rob, Happy to read you enjoy the "trunk & treats" when the Care Takers have them to share. Nice to read you have a fun diecast car like this too :-) Is this a GREAT car? YES! That said, I'd agree, I prefer this car best for me without the skirts and the continental kit. Lou
Rob, I am in TOTAL agreement with you. Shirts and Continental Kits simply distroy the good looks. I know they were popular add ons in some of the southern states but never on the west coast. Same applies to spotlights! Others will disagree!
@@craigjorgensen4637 Thanks Craig! Others can disagree all they like, but this is clearly a case of "less is more" if ever there was one, obviously (to us). I have re-prints of the '57 Chevy sales and accessories brochures, and all of these horrid options were available at the time, unfortunately. Good ones too, like a/c and power windows (rare then) as well. If I see a '57 Chevy convertible video that has the ugly options we hate, I'll skip it and find one without that junk!
I've never seen a nicer '57.
Thanks, Ken & Lou...
Hi Dave, High praise :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, and you're welcome, Lou
Ken sure has an awesome car collection. Thanks for showing them!
Hi George, Happy to share Ken's collection with you :-) You're welcome, Lou
You see Kids of my generation, this is what a real car looks like. I may be only 20, but I have the car tastes in all vehicles dating back to the mid 30s to the mid 70s.

Great example of one of the most iconic cars in American automotive history. I guess I was not aware of the dual quads on these cars. Ken's collection never disappoints me. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Russell, Just when you think you know something about cars, Ken's cars clearly bring the knowledge level up. My pleasure sharing this one with you, and you're welcome, Lou

Hi mouse, Happy to read you enjoy the style of this car :-) Appreciate the kind words on this review, Lou
Such an iconic beauty! Mr. Nagel never disappoints.
That Landau package suits that car perfectly.
I love the way the black top seems to make the car look shorter.
AS ALWAYS, GREAT VIDEO LOU.

Great car and video. Thanks Lou
Hi acts2210, Happy to read you enjoy this car & video :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, and you're welcome, Lou
My buddy had that same car in Easter Egg blue with a white top/white interior. It had a fuelie 327 and was beautiful. I had a '57 Ford 2-dr hardtop with T-Bird 312 and McCulloch supercharger in Aztec Gold/white with black/gold interior. Interestingly enough, we got curious and examined the records from Ford/GM and found that the Ford outsold the Chevy in '57. P.S. The Ford had the gas fill behind the license plate so you could fill from either side....a great idea!
Thanks fir comments!,,, I came close: went from my 1954 Ford ( 57 Engine 4 BBL/ Dual exhaust) mild custom works:: almost pristine: 1956 FORD 4Door/ TBIRD Engine/ BLUE Cloth/Skirts,etc,super low miles - selectaire NOT WORK?) Anyways, totalled in freak accident few months! ! Just started plans for keeping & Conserving more .. in 1965.......

Only '57 memory i have is getting a ride to HS in like '72 and on the the way, block away, some guys putting the hurt on a '57 Bel Air hard top so hard, the rear axel was flopping. Driver "Horses ass".
yep. he was right.
Hi Glen, Happy to read you and this car share the same birth year :-) That's quite the story, Lou
@@loucostabile Thanks, Lou.
The Driver was my Dad. '64 Malibu wagon and '56 four door Chevy. He never abused them.
I wish they made cars like this again.
