    On "My Car Story" we're in the Suburbs of Minneapolis MN on 6-1-22.
    We're looking at a 1958 Dodge Regal Lancer in Copper & Black Paint. The car comes with the factory 350 CI Big lock V8 engine with 295 HP, and an automatic transmission.
    The car's Owner is Randy Guyer. Randy’s had this car since 2008 where he bought it at the Barrett Jackson Auction. He thought he would just throw out one bid and next thing you know he owned the car. It was the start of his trip down the road of collecting finned Mopars from 1957-1962.
    ENJOY!

    This is a beautiful car. Chrysler had some nice body styles and color combinations back then. Also back then you could tell year, make, and model of the car from a mile away, now they all look like Tupperware cars until you are five feet away they all look the same. Thanks for sharing this with us I always love looking at these treasures you find.

    This guy has an incredible collection of vintage Mopars, and this 1958 Dodge Lancer is no exception! It is loaded with lots of style and a ton of chrome. I didn't realize that Mopar released a 350 engine for only the 1958 model year. I love the black on copper color scheme. That really sets it off big time! Good job Lou!

      For a 350 motor in such a large car tells me it had to have a higher compression, like 12 to 1 to squeeze more ponies and torque to get the job done.

    • @michaelbenardo5695
      @michaelbenardo5695 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@billyhndrsn4542 350 was the base Dodge Royal engine and was, with dual quads, optional on the Plymouth - 305 horses. The D500 had a dual quad 361 with 320 horsepower, 333 with Fuel Injection!

      @nonelost1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anybody have any idea why that 350 motor was a one off (1958 only). I mean they don't engineer engines for only one year on purpose as that would be too costly. Did they find problems with it or what?

I did not however, expect a rosen gold mid metallic body color, I assumed it was dusty rose or something akin. Rather amazing, and I've finally found a color choice that goes with chrome..metallic.

    Thanks Lou and Randy. Randy has wonderful Chrysler products, and he owns more cars than I always think. Every time there's a video on one of Randy car's I think it's the last one, and then another turns up within a short period. I love that. And I would love visiting Randy's shop to slowly peruse the details of each car he owns. I'm so glad that randy decided to do vintage Chrysler products. And that you keep bringing his cars to us, Lou.
    That dress shirt is great, a brilliant use of matching-in car upholstery. The copper color used throughout this car is magnificent. And this car certainly earned the awards. I think this is the most deluxe Dodge from the '50's that I've seen. It's dressed up like a DeSoto and has some Chrysler details too.
    Lou, please slow down and focus for the brochures. A number of us want to stop and read. You used to do a good job with that, but this year it's become impossible to stop the video and then have clarity to read the print.

      I know how you feel. In 1969, my dad was looking at buying a new car. I tried to get him to get one with a V-8 and power steering and power brakes and an automatic. He decided to give me a "lesson" in life. He explained he always had, and will always have, six banger stick... except one. He decided to go all out in 1957. He bought a two-door Ford wagon (Nomad looking). It had the big Thunderbird engine, and P/S and P/B and auto. It was a huge lemon. Nothing ever worked right on it. But, he was stuck with it for 4 years, because he only bought a new car every four years. He said he was never happier than when he traded it in, in 1961, for a six banger stick wagon. I was like WHAT!!!!!!!!! You had a '57 Ford two-door wagon. You have any idea what I would give to have that car now??? I don't think I talked to him for a month. But....... mom stepped in anyway. She said if he didn't buy one with power steering and an automatic... HE would be running us two kids around instead of her for doctor appointments and music lessons and church group and EVERYWHERE else. He got a 1969 Ford wagon with the 351, P/S and auto. Was the BEST car he ever owned. And, he kept the old '66 for work. Same deal. They were going to give him $1,000 on trade. He said how much with no trade cash??? They took another $800 of the price. He was like, so you were actually only going to give me $200 for the trade??? And, instead of the '57 Ford two-door wagon... I wound up with the '66 battleaxe. The 240 six started getting a loud squeaking noise. We took the valve cover off... and the front rocker arm was dry as a bone. Dad took it off, and put a blob of yellow grease on it, and put it back together. Did than every six months for TWO years. Basically whenever it started squeaking again. Then I traded it in on a '71 AMC Ambassador. You just cannot kill a 240/300 Ford six.

    You know, about 1 or two years ago, I was watching an episode on You Tube of "My Classic Car" with Dennis Gage. He was interviewing a gentleman in California who owns several (and that is putting it lightly!) classic 1950's Mopars. The guy's name is Aivar. Well of the several cars that Aivar owns, one, a 1958 Chrysler New Yorker convertible in green took me off the ground. I have always been a GM guy (because overall through most of Automotive time, GM held the stirrup of Design)... But I admitted to myself that day that I found myself transfixed by one 1958 Chrysler New Yorker, that had I been around in 1958 and able to buy a new car, that that new car would have had to have been a new Chrysler automobile! Then and there, I knew that a 1958 Chevrolet Impala, or 1958 Cadillac El Dorado, or Corvette just wouldn't have worked out for me. Chrysler would have been my marque! WELL, today, seeing this 1958 Dodge Regal Lancer, and it being the Spring Edition model that it was that only came in few color combinations, my eyeballs popped out of my head! Lou, you did a great job on this one! And this man apparently knows how to maintain a thoroughly beautiful car collection. I couldn't find ANYTHING that I did not like about this 1958 Dodge! Have I ever looked at a 1958 Dodge before? Of course I had... And I can also tell you that I was not a big fan of the taillamps... Mind you I like the 1958 better than the 1957 with its improvements... But I like the 1958 Dodge better than the 1959 models too. TODAY I decided for myself that the 1958 Dodge is just about the handsomest cars to have come out of the 1950's!!!! And this springtime special made it so. Check out Aivar's 1960 Dodge Matador 2dr hardtop though. The 1960 Dodge is also one of my favorite Dodge's.... I am thankful for Mr Virgil Exner's graceful handiwork for Chrysler too. Sorry his health was not where it needed to be though! Great video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Exner excellence! He designed most of the Forward Look cars 1955-1962. At Dodge, he worked with Dodge Chief of Styling Maury Johnson. The '58 is more than 90% same as the 1957 model, but the front end is more refined, getting a few cues from Harley Earl's Cadillacs at GM. The lower chrome bumpers are same as '57, but everything but the headlamp assemblies are different.

    It's a real shame that in 2022, cars all look alike because of aerodynamics {airliners too] SUVs all look alike because, what can you do with two boxes?
    This 1958 Dodge was STYLED, not engineered. Check out almost any 1958: Imperial, Chevrolet, Packard, Buick. Lincoln. I can recognize one of these from a block away.

    My Aunt Rose inherited a 1958 Dodge from her boyfriend. It was black and green. it was NOT a Royal Lancer beause we saw in this video it did not come in green. I'm not sure if it was green and black in the inisde tood. I just know I thought it was really cool. The dash in 1958 doesn't seem as Aerospace as some of the other Chrysler products. I like it. I loved my aunt's car too. Not sure what happened to her 1958 Dodge, but later she had a 1962 Dodge that was white, plain jane looking, not near as nice as the 1958. Mi parents had a similar car when I was a child. Theirs was coral and white. For the last few years they drove it there was no reverse gear. It was replaced by a new ‘66 Olds 98. The Olds was rather plain and looked like many other cars of the mid ‘60s. Not nearly as much glitz as a mid-50s Chrysler product

    If you wanted anything along these lines in Australia in 1958, the best you could hope for would be a 1958 four door Desoto Diplomat or Dodge custom Royal.

      I think the fan clutch came into being on mainstream cars near the end of the 50s, but until about the 80s, was mostly found on cars with air conditioning. By the 80s, almost all cars had air. The very 1st car I know of with a fan clutch was the Will St. Claire of the 20s.

    I fell in love with Mopars when my blue collar dad bought his first new car, a 1955 Dodge Cornet. Three tone green, it was so distinctive over other cars my friends families had and it was Mopars for me forever. God has blessed me financially,, but I buy only Mopars not the Mercedes and BMWs like my neighbors, I still drive a Jeep, a Crossfire roadster and a Challenger R/T. Thanks Dad.
    So, I lived this era and my love for “Forward Look” finned Chrysler products knew no bounds. Absolutely, without doubt they were the most beautiful cars of the era.
    Fast forward and the beauty of this Dodge is even more striking. I would love to relive my youth at the wheel of this Dodge, or a DeSoto Aventurer, or Chrysler 300C or my total dream car a 1962 Chrysler Imperial convertible. No Cadillac for me, never, ever.

    Given this car has at least 96K on the odometer (196K maybe?) they did a heck of a restoration. I remember from our '58 Windsor that we got it in '64 as a second car - my dad had the front seat recovered (on a car only 6 years old at the time). The fins were all scraped - even my mother scraped them parallel parking when a street sign was too close to the curb. The electrical system (those push buttons) caused recurring problems - when you start to know the AAA guys by name, that's a problem. I can't overstate how obsolete these beasts looked if you owned one in the 1960s. Someone laments here that his dad only got $200 for one on a trade-in. He should be lucky he got that much. But they are works of art and automotive history for sure and great to look at.

      'Amazing curved front window' that leads you into the amazing interior - This windshield was introduced on the Forward Look Mopars in 1957, and this particular design was installed on the '57-'59 models. A different 'bubble' windshield was installed on the full-sized unibody '60 coupes and '60-'64 convertibles. Imperials always had their own windshields. For its '61-'64 coupes, the big Mopars wore a flatter windshield.
      Also, while this video shows us the interior, it doesn't offer us the full magnificence of the industry-leading sparkling carpeting, beautiful seating and door panel fabrics, and futuristic dashboards with their full - fuel, temperature, ammeter, oil pressure - instrumentation that you fully take in when seeing one of these Forward Look beauties in person!

    Hey Lou, what a gorgeous classic car, sooo Rare for sure. Hey Lou, that owner Randy has quite a few classic cars, maybe he can let you take one home for a few months. You would definitely take care of it too because it’s a classic like you. Great job brother. 👍💚✌️❤️😎
