Hi Mike! I've lived on $1,0000 USD/ per month in Angeles City; however I had the ability to spend more and an emergency fund that I never touched. Now I'm at $2,3450/ month. Cooking your own meals can can result in substantial savings; I cooked a lot in AC.
The last time that I went I ended up in the hospital on Olango island in Lapu-lapu city Cebu. The Dr. Checkup was free. A nurse making a follow up visit at the house by a nurse was also free. The dr ended up changing my blood pressure medication. It was 9 pesos for the prescription. When I got back to the USA my Dr said they made a good call and he changed my prescription as well. To see him was 170.00 usd and the prescription was 60.00. I personally like the service there over the US
Medical tourism is a fast-growing thing for the U.S. as our own healthcare system seems to deteriorate more and more. So I'm curious as to whether it might be just as economical and sensible to fly over, get a complete scan (Worth thousands here) as well as get any procedures done, like knee surgery or something for a fraction of the cost and recover with your own home health nurse.
not bad at all listen i got PRP treatments for ligament laxity caused by an incompetent chiropractor, here in Canada its 1500$ CAD in the PH its 100$ with ultrasound guided injection

This post is going to be extremely long and only covers the health category, but I promise it will be helpful. More and more guys, largely due to social media, and primarily due to TH-cam videos, now have a greater temptation to retire in the Philippines, as well as other Southeast Asia countries. And largely due to the fact that they hear that it is possible to live on a certain amount of savings or small pension, as well as the easy access to availability of girls. I would highly recommend those considering the move to really sit down and do an honest assessment and research evaluation on whether or not they have a multitude of categories covered that has absolutely nothing to due to a girl(s). What I mean by categories are, first and foremost "health" What is your current state of health? Are you on monthly maintenance? And if so, what are the "availability and cost" of those meds in the area of the Philippines you are planning to settle. The further out in the province one gets, the less availability of meds in pharmacies. "Some" provinces don't even have a pharmacy, at least nothing really of use if they do. If not, what are the transport cost to get you to and from a pharmacy that carries a "readily available" supply of the type(s) of meds you require. If you have major health conditions, or minor health conditions of a known progressive nature you may want to either reconsider retirement in the Philippines, or you should take extreme seriousness your choice of location as the overwhelming majority of hospitals in the Philippines are subpar at best. And again, most especially the further out in the province you settle as lots of provinces only have what we consider, "clinics." Do research to find out if there is a hospital, if so, what types of modern up to date equipment the hospital has. What types of doctors and surgeons they staff. What types of surgical procedures they routinely conduct. And what training, qualifications and experience their doctors possess. Health insurance. What's your current policy coverage and cost in your country compared to what, if anything is covered under that policy in the Philippines. Don't just assume that because you have for example, "blue cross-blue shield" that you are covered anywhere in the world. Talk with your insurance provider. Explain what your plans are and allow them to guide you either under one of their alternative policies or perhaps through one of their international health insurance partners. Major question: Does that alternative or international partner policy you are directed to pay upfront set amounts, or a percentage upfront hospital quote of procedures...perhaps a pre-guaranteed of payment or will you be required to pay out of pocket and claim reimbursements later. Research Guam as a 3-hour flight possibility as an option as your policy will most likely cover more so far as upfront costs. If you don't have or will not have health insurance then establish an initial medical health savings account of roughly 1m pesos in which you do not touch, but one that you "only" add to each month while in the Philippines. My apologies for the long post. Health, and Health related issue(s) preparedness is of the upmost importance. Note! How many times have we seen TH-camrs and TH-camr friends out there offering a host of advice to you as if they are all good to go, but when, not if...they find themselves in a major medical situation, unprepared, and begging for help with an available surgical procedure in the Philippines, as well as all across Southeast Asia that could possibly save, and even possibly drastically prolong their life???
If you worry about the money so much it takes away from the enjoyment like Mike and Paul said your probably not financially ready for the move - I know the way i am i have every thing payed for and acutally a pension,Ssi,401k and house and two vehicles paid off. If i can live in the states now and would be confident in making the move. Before one makes the move you need to have all your ducks in a roll. Let someone review what you have and what the reality is. I say have a $2000 a month because i know i had suprise expenses in the states you better be ready in the Phillippines too. Mike is working on his standup program - can`t wait to see his gig :-)

None these people on these budget have a high quality health care plan. Most of the these private for profit are filled with pitfalls and loopholes and that's why. Just zero expats carry these private health care plans in the philippines.
@@mikesphilippineretirement you must not do one bit of looking into the for profit health care companies in the southeast a countries. First they ask anyone looking into buy one their policies. About pre-existing conditions and if someone has pre-existing conditions. They don't cover the pre-existing conditions or just don't sell they a policy period. That is pretty much outlawed in the advance countries of the world. American was the last country to outlaw that. Second, having caps on payouts on policies. That again is outlawed in the advance countries of the world. Third, these policies that they are selling can stop at a certain age like seventy years of age or they can drop someone. That's turning in a lot of claims on health care issues. Again these are outlawed in most of the advance countries of the world. Sorry, if you are a salesman for selling these for profit health care companies. Ask yourself if these companies are so great. Why aren't of the population in southeast asia governments givings these policies to their population at birth. Most of these southeast asia countries don't have a public health care system at retirement age or a social security system fund at retirement age. Japan, south korea and tiawan do. These are examples of what health care should look like. For the rest of countries in southeast asia should give their citizens.
It's very sad to see this friendship destroyed because of what seems to be that time of the month. I heard not just women go through PMS. It's sad indeed especially when you both are coming from the same motherland/homeland, then have to show your true colors in a foreign country. Not a good reflection of Americans.

Yep! I would say transportation related traumatic injuries and cardiac/stroke issues are the top two reasons why expats need emergency medical treatment. Look around at the expat community. Most are older and obese, and many smoke and drink.
i disagree but thanks for the comment....where can you rent a fully furninhed house 4 bedrooms for 450 dollard a month..60 elect bill 2 dollar water bill?
@@mikesphilippineretirement Mike, read again "the US is the cheapest of the developped countries to live in" ! Comparing apple to apple... Thanks for the interview 👍
True, the U.S. is a big country and you can occasionally find a single room to rent for $600 in a place like Idaho or Montana. Unfurnished of course. HOWEVER without a car, you're not getting anywhere, including the grocery store. The more rural, the more you rely on that vehicle. And that means payments, interest, gas, insurance, licensing and maintenance which could run you as much as your rent. Which is why many live in their cars.
@@ForAndroid101 lol funny yeah Mike say everything is not living a bit discouraging sometimes. I don't think that retired people truly understand how crazy the west is getting and why a lot of younger men are trying to escape. We escape the west to get away from the west and it's ideology and it's debaucherous culture not to live in some westernized city in another country. All I need is a little aircon and internet for work I'll sleep on the floor in my gf hut if I have to I don't care I'll still be more happy there than here.
Follow Mike and Paul also...two very informational and entertaining channels. Paul does a lot of informational list-type videos, and Mike's advice/info videos are also excellent. Keep up the good work guys!
Trying living in Canada with our low pension and higher cost of living and my Canadian pensions go further in the Philippines even though because I leave Canada they increase my withheld tax to 25% and take away one of my pension called the old age supplement so guaranteed me living in poverty in the Philippines but still better though than Canada average apartment rent up to $2000 per month and average price for a modest home of $500 thousand Canadian dollars!
I don't know how I could go OVER 1k if I don't drink alcohol. Rent/bills > $300 / 15000 php Doable on street food or home cooking. 2 meals a day >100 php breakfast 200-300php dinner
But what else are you going to do? Just sit at home all day? How about travel around? Eat western foods occasionally? Keep eating healthy, avoid alcohol at all costs. Healthy food costs lots of money here.
@@ForAndroid101 sitting around all day at any location is boring af day after day. It's not like the weather is always perfect for beaches year round. You need more hobbies. Eating street food or from 711 24/7 is awful diet and horrible nutrition. No money for travel, eating out occasionally, going on road trips. You can forget about anything healthcare related from unexpected accidents. I am in my 30s so I don't need to pay for girls but anyone old will have to at some point if you want to go on a date someone young or whatever. What kind of life is that and what's the end game? Just try to survive until you die? That life sucks and many broke Filipinos would even agree.

Thanks guys I do follow both of you. I met Paul while I was there in March. I stayed in Bacong and came to the waterfront many times. You’re both doing great.
Me and my Filipina can live off of about $1,290 US. We don’t drink alcohol, we don’t smoke cigarettes, we don’t go to bars or clubs, we don’t go to coffee shops(we don’t drink coffee), we eat out about 3 days a week(we drink tubig or bottled water which is more healthy). We both eat lots of fruits and vegetables. For fun we go bowling, aquarium, zoo, or visit an Island near Cebu for about 2 days.
You guys should have a blood pressure monitor at home and monitor your blood pressure every day. Also, a diabetis testing kit too and stock up with aspirins and other emergency medications.
I have a blood pressure monitor in the house as for meds easy to get just a 30 day supply at a time. I will let the doctor run tests as needed..very low cost to visit a doctor

There's an advantage living with more retiree of your kind because you feel at home, but also there's a price to pay. Any retiree can make it in the Philippines even below $800.00 if a retiree can give up some luxury that a retiree is used to.
Seriously guys I have the basics down to next to nothing…….. I do own I Honda motorcycle and a 2016 susuki automobile. Plus I shop at many of the expat stores. And I go out entertainment. This nearly 3 x my cost
Yes, Asian Hospital in Allabang is very good. There are many good test centers in Manila near PGH that are reasonable and do good work, from stress eco onward. Hi-Precision is excellent too. I use services here & in the States too. It’s true, if you live in provinces or even in major metropolitan areas, between the traffic and lack of any ambulatory services or paramedics, you will probably land up either dead or severely decapitated. It’s all a matter of luck.
Paul needs to wear a hat. Sitting out like that in summer sun is not a good idea. Next stop might be dermatology. As a health care professional he knows that.

I am a lot older than both you guys. I go to my doctor once a year for blood work and he tells me I am healthy for my age. I find it ironic that you both are concerned so much about hospitals but eat in restaurants. You guys should talk about healthy eating instead. What you eat and drink plays the major role in how healthy you are. Your diet is the fuel that your body functions on. I have not eaten restaurant food in years. Get yourself a high powered blender and make yourself a full blender smoothie for breakfast and another one for dinner. Have a solid food meal at noon. The ingredients for the smoothies should be apple, banana, strawberries, carrots, celery, blueberries and add liquid with pure grape juice. You wouldn't watered down fuel in your vehicle so don't put junk food in your body. I am tired of people not eating and drinking properly and then lamenting about health care.

I personally like the service there over the US
how much was the total bill..annd 9 peso how many pills?
Medical tourism is a fast-growing thing for the U.S. as our own healthcare system seems to deteriorate more and more. So I'm curious as to whether it might be just as economical and sensible to fly over, get a complete scan (Worth thousands here) as well as get any procedures done, like knee surgery or something for a fraction of the cost and recover with your own home health nurse.
not bad at all listen i got PRP treatments for ligament laxity caused by an incompetent chiropractor, here in Canada its 1500$ CAD in the PH its 100$ with ultrasound guided injection

Finally,👏👏
Finally?? hahaha did Janet find a replacement for me😂
This post is going to be extremely long and only covers the health category, but I promise it will be helpful.
Either I missed you guys saying it, or I didn't hear it, but both of you have significant others. This would surely cut into the bottom line.
Not fair Scott. Janet is obviously very happy. So is Mike. Why don't you put your life on video and let us decide who has the better life?
None these people on these budget have a high quality health care plan. Most of the these private for profit are filled with pitfalls and loopholes and that's why. Just zero expats carry these private health care plans in the philippines.
you have any stats on that??
Yep! I would say transportation related traumatic injuries and cardiac/stroke issues are the top two reasons why expats need emergency medical treatment. Look around at the expat community. Most are older and obese, and many smoke and drink.

@@ForAndroid101 sitting around all day at any location is boring af day after day. It's not like the weather is always perfect for beaches year round. You need more hobbies.
