What they dont tell you about the road-deaths in Thailand is that they only count the death on the scene of the accident. People who die in ambulance or hospital after are not counted. So the real death rate is considerably higher. And the traffic is definitely not the same. Due to the congestion (at least on Cebu) the traffic moves relatively slow. In Thailand you¨ll have pickups going at 150 km/h all day all night no matter the weather. You dont see that speed so much in Philippines. I also experienced a lot of drunk driving in Thailand. No matter the time of day, just worse in the night time. I was at a restaurant around 2 pm to eat an early dinner and had 2 thai gentlemen on the side table. They drank over 1 bottle of whiskey before getting into their pickup and drove away. Clearly drunk both of them. Crazy. And the internet in Philippines is literaly horrible no matter where you live. We had ADSL in our apartment in Cebu City (couldnt get fiber) and it was pretty bad most of the time. So for anyone gaming or doing online activity, internet will be quite an obstacle in Philippines. In the provice you can pretty much forget about reliable internet. Thailand was really good that way. Even internet through phone almost everywhere was great when i went on motorbike trips.

The traffic is rough in Pattaya & other parts of Thailand. But if you're in a car and not on a bike, you're likely to have no issues. And with the super low cost of Uber type ride services (Bolt, Grab), you can take cars all day and night for darned near free imho. The guys on bikes who ride w/o helmets are the bulk of the road deaths here. Having said that, when WALKING across the street, have your head on a swivel.

Philippines I feel is more friendly. The English language isn't really an issue. The biggest negativity is poor internet and food choices, followed by very tiny apartments. If your moving into a house, expect less than modern features.

Hmmm.... so complaining about things you don't like means you lack credibility? I'd say the opposite is true! BTW, he actually admitted to his natural inclination to complain about things during the interview. I guess you'd rather watch vloggers who blow smoke up your butt and put a positive spin on potholes, scams, corruption, food poisoning, immigration hassles, incompetence, and major inconveniences. Personally, I get a little sick of clueless vloggers selling a particular location like a used car dealer tries to sell the biggest lemon on the lot. The allure of easy women and cheap living are easily eclipsed by the painful realities of living in a developing nation with a completely different cultural mindset. It's why at least 60% of all expats return to their home countries within 5 years! Your clickbait sunshine vloggers almost NEVER seem to mention this!

Talking about things, observations, challenges, experiences, even those that are 'negative' with more of a balanced perspective gives you lot's of credibility in my eyes and ears. Don't need smoke blown, or anything else for that matter, by some sunshine peddlers, just a mature, balanced, rational presentation of things. In all honesty, I don't even know what would trigger you to put so much time and effort into your response, but it sure does say a lot since you went on about things I did not even say but you extrapolated and projected. I suspect there are many parallels between the countries but I think Thailand is a better place to live long term. This is largely due to far better infrastructure and the fact that the country is more unified not spread out over 7,000 islands. Blackouts of electricity and internet service, which generally is far superior, almost never happen. Much better medical services. No food shortages and food prices more stable.
Negatives: Fewer people speak English. Thai language is difficult to learn for many foreigners.
There are cultural quirks that are hard to understand and / or justify by western standards. This is also true about the Philippines.
There is a big but subtle difference in the belief systems.
The Philippines has a very thin veneer of Americanism, less than 100 years, layered on top of a slightly thicker veneer of Hispanic colonialism, about 400 years worth. Both of those are on top of a basic and thickly rooted Asian history / background. And all of that has an imported and force fed religion laid on top of it.
Thailand has a much more unified cultural history and is mostly Buddhist, giving it a far different attitude to the people about life in general.
This is a big deal and not all that obvious until you spend some time in each country.

I like Thailand. I like their food some are better taste than our country Philippines. I love my country but the food that I don't like are the sweet. some of the food are so sweet. And it was hard for us to find a translator because we were in middle of asking something and it was hard to communicate. not always but mostly. Then the bell rang and we have to stop what we were doing because of their religion. Some foreigners stay in one place that's why they don't see what's going on on the other side. If you live in Phuket always then it's ok .outside and further no translator and it was hard for us. yes, we used the google but not right away it wll be solve.

Thailand is a million times better in most ways. The only parts that are hard is the communication/language barrier as Thai are not very proficient in English. If you take some time to learn simple thai phrases you will get along fine. And always be polite and not aggressive. Their culture frown upon aggressive behaviour. If you like to drink and party, Pattaya or Bangkok is the place to be. If you like to relax, enjoy the beach life, good food and perhaps golf then Cha-Am or Hua Hin are great. I generaly dont recommend Chiang Mai or Chiang Rais the air pollution there is so bad most of the year. Phuket is also a good alternative but the traffic congestion there is pretty bad. Just for reference i lived 2,5 year in Hua Hin, Thailand, and 2 years on Cebu island in Philippines during the last 6 years.

Google Translate is your friend in Thailand because learning the language is an uphill battle. As for English proficiency, it is really different everywhere you go. Bangkok Hospital in Pattaya staff was *extremely good* with English as lots of their patients were clearly Western. In the provinces, I hear it is likely the opposite. That's where the Google Translate is helpful.

Buddy seems like a good guy to get to know. Great comparison between life in Thailand, versus the Philippines.
As a big family that's well traveled and constantly traveling, discussions happen about where would be a good place to go. Japan, Korea, Hong Kong... then the POOR-iegner pipes up with Thailand... 😲
I mentioned the lower costs and so many places to explore... 🤔 Every week, during our Sunday dinners, now someone will offer up another tidbit of information about another destination in Thailand... I guess the family travelers (Us included) might be doing some trips to Thailand in the future?

Thailand is a fantastic place to visit and perhaps suitably ideal for retirees to hang their hats in (at least your salad can be spiced up with ingredients so mellow, it will send your soul soaring). I know two people who live there. One part-time, and the other permanent. Because he became a Christian Missionary and ended up marrying a Thai national that is a little younger than him. I am also retired, and my ex-girlfriend was a real gold digger. It was difficult living with her because we have to often go on all our four in the mud and shallow streams in hidden Sierra foothills fighting with bears and unpredictable weather in order to afford to pay for provisions. Yeah, Philippines and Thailand, tantalizing propositions and disability benefits are really for the ones who justifiably deserves them. Meanwhile, I just got to figure out other ways to making doughs rise and whether Rhizomes are good alternatives during times of climate change. 😎👁👁

They are coming back to the Philippines. Who cares? What I don't understand why compare our country to Thailand because there more better country than Ph like Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Laos, Cambodia right? We all know we are not a good country, we lack a lot of things here. What is funny really funny comparing it to Thailand. Then these people will say bad things about us. I don't get it really... really really bad... just leave our country and let us live in peace. This is degrading really... seriously...

To become the 2nd biggest economy in SE Asia, next to Indonesia. 5th in Asia. It is also forecasted By 2040 or 2050, the Philippines will be the 14th biggest economy in the world.

I'm optimistic about this. As if one will look up the history of the Philippines, the country used to be the 2nd country in Asia, economically and militarily, only next to Japan.
Read about the present and future economy of the Philippines.
Even Elon Musk is investing in this country, he sees the great opportunities and potential. The future seems looking bright.
