    Most Jeep owners are not that concerned with fuel economy. However, in the "cute ute" segment; the Renegade has the 2nd most horsepower in both the 1.4L Turbo (160) and the 2.4L Tigershark (180) in the class only trailing the Nissan Juke. As compared to the Subaru XV Crosstrek (148), Chevy Trax (138), and Honda HR-V (140).

    It's great but I bought the sport rather than the trail hawk. I like the manual transmission better and the turbo 4. So far it's been a pleasure to drive! I would highly recommend to who ever is thinking about getting it.

    It's ugly but at the same time it's not. I would buy it.

    The diesel is noisier but better consumption about 50mpg

    It's kinda tempting, but I'm holding out for the diesel wrangler pickup.

    We just have to wait to see how reliable or un- this is gonna be, after all it is built by FIAT, Tony the mechanic's favorite brand.

    Steve, would you pick this over the Subaru Crosstrek? I think a lot of buyers looking for a entry-level 4x4 (like me) would be cross-shopping these.

      I like both. The styling of the Renegade is a turn off for some. I'm not a big Subie guy but the Crosstrek is a favorite of mine.

    What's a crawl ratio? You mentioned the Wrangler is 70:1 and Renegade is 20:1?

    • @stevehammes
      @stevehammes  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Denton Armstrong It represents the gear reduction when you shift into 4-low...a higher number means that more torque gets to the wheels at a low engine speed to power over rocks and other obstacles while "crawling" along. Typically a 60:1 ratio would be a starting point for serious off-roaders but a 20:1 in a small, stock SUV like this isn't bad...especially when you consider that most others don't even offer a low ranges.

    Yeah the Renegade doesn't have dual over heard cam like its competitors. But it has something nifty in the Chrysler/Fiat branded MultiAir.
    The exhaust valves are actuated by a conventional belt driven camshaft. But the intake valves are actuated by oil pressure(closed by conventional valve spring). A rocker arm for the intake valve is driven by the exhaust cam. That rocker powers a small oil pump. Then a computer controlled solenoid valve opens and the oil opens the intake valve. Since there's no direct mechanical connection with the intake valve and the camshaft, you can do all sorts of things with the intake valve timing, duration and lift.

      mx5hong Excellent explanation of MultiAir2. Plus the CR-V's CVT helps, too.

    • @mx5hong
      @mx5hong 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TestDriveNow.com featuring Auto Critic Steve Hammes I think if I own a car with MultiAir, I would be OCD when it comes to oil changes with the correct grade/brand. Could you imagine if one of the solenoid valve gets gummed up with sludge? :o

    • @stevehammes
      @stevehammes  9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It all rests on that column of oil plus Fiat's reliability ratings are still near the bottom so that would concern me some.

    only 24 mpg average with a 9 speed transmission? just give it a 6-speed, these 8 9 and 10 speed transmissions are such gimmicks.

    Except for the grill, it looks nothing like a Jeep. The silhouette and overall lines remind me too much of a Nissan Cube. As Jeep moves to be more "swoopified", they'll lose their identity to other makes.
