      It's just guys with little dick syndrome that hate on it. I drive a Wrangler and still think of getting one of these Trailhawks because I really don't do anything that pushes my Wrangler and would appreciate the interior and smoother daily driving of the Renegade.

      +endocry not only that but the angles on the thing are excellent, and they look GREAT with a slight lift and aggressive wheel/tire combo. I have two WK2 and still think this would be an awesome addition.

    If it wasn't for these videos i wouldn't have bought this car! Sure it can't beat the Wrangler but man is it a dream to drive on and off road with the stock metal skid plates, rock sliders, and a decent 8.7'' of clearance really give me extra reassurance when going through rivers and rocky terrain.

      I like it alot now and even ordered one, but indeed, it's so diffrent it needs it's time to like it.
      I'm pretty sure, when this model gets the attention it deserves, also on american-side, it will mature over time and even get some better offroad-versions in the future...atleast I hope for it to happen. The aftermarketsupport already jumped on it so it seems :)

    Something I've noticed lately is that most journalist usually nag on the weaknesses of cars and trucks. It's about time that someone actually did a review about the strengths of the Jeep Renegade ! I would like to thank you
    for a Job Well Done Nathan !!! Roman does he tends to get a little bit lost with cars with CVT transmissions. One or two weaknesses doesn't mean the car is bad

    • @palebeachbum
      @palebeachbum 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      You make a good point because all vehicles have shortcomings. No vehicle is perfect. I guess Roman is more of a "glass half empty" kind of guy.

    • @johnfarel3152
      @johnfarel3152 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree. I think as soon as Roman here's CVT he assumes the vehicle is junk

    • @robertmoore119
      @robertmoore119 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This isn't relevant to jeeps, but relevant to CVT transmissions. Imo, CVT transmissions are very good for their purpose. I'm not sure about the maximum torque they can support, though they are engineered to support the torque of the vehicle they come in. They actually work very very well with keeping the engine within its power band. They do the same thing any transmission does, but more closely to a transmission with 8-10 speeds. I must admit that I very much enjoy spirited driving in a small car like a Honda that has a CVT transmission.

    It would be great if Fiat started flooding the US market with Diesels. The Diesel in the international versions is a good match.
    What Jeep has done pretty well over the last couple years is squash out all competition sub-$50k.

    Great driving, Nathan. The last Renegade video with Andre driving was just painful to watch. I have to say, as much as I wanted to hate this when it first came out, it is really growing on me. The more I see them, the more I like them. It seems that other than the intrusive traction control and mild stock tires, they do have some impressive offroad performance for what they are. I imagine one of these with some little BFG AT's would be quite impressive.

    so what happened to the Fiat 500X? It's the same drive train/chassis/climb? We're abusing the pants off them here in New England for much less cost than the Jeep name commands. Just sayin...

  • @pitroworld
    @pitroworld 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You guys in USA, you need to stop using gasoline engines on SUVs. You need to start using diesel. You are losing so much torque which you can get from even smaller engines. The 2.0lt diesel engine in Renegade has 350Nm of torque, much more than the 2.4lt gasoline with 232Nm. With diesel engines you are winning in torque and in fuel consumption.

    It takes different driving approach for the newer fiat based Jeeps. You have to keep your foot in the gas, and let the electronics figure out which wheels to turn. It's decent from the factory, but I doubt it would handle driving like this for very long without some seriously upgraded maintenance schedule.

    Nice review Nathan......I like the fact that you put that car into rock mode and FWD low, as expecting to go up that trail in the same mode you would use on a roadway is really not very genuine to the car's capability. Nice that you added the approach and breakover angles as well....Though, can it tow?
    The only issue I have with this car are those tires....those Goodyear SRA's are tricky on wet surfaces.

    Update: The 2016 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk SUV has a recurring power seat problem that prevents the use of the 8-way power and lumbar functions. My vehicle does not hold up well under urban off-road driving. The driver power seat system has become inoperable for the fourth time after 36 months and 23,000 miles of driving in the USA.

  • @ds440RB
    @ds440RB 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    A Jeep is a Jeep. They have been making the toughest vehicles on the road since 1941. The Renegade may be smaller and may not have that classic Jeep look, but it's still a Jeep through and through. And for those who have issues with a 4 cylinder Jeep, the Willys MB had a 2.2L I4 with 60hp and it did just fine on the battlefields of WWII. Jeep is a company that has had shaky ownership for most of it's life, but they have never settled on the engineers they hire. From Kaiser to AMC to Chrysler, Jeep has always proven to be the most valuable asset of every company that has owned them. Chrysler bought AMC in 1987 solely because Lee Iacocca wanted Jeep, and the world probably has Chrysler to thank for the fact that Jeep still exists due to AMC nearly driving them into the ground. Nowadays, Jeep may be the most valuable automotive company in the world. A true American legend, long live Jeep.

  • @johnfrench6144
    @johnfrench6144 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    This guy knows how to drive it .. but I still wish they would show more of its 4 wheel drive capabilities.. when these journalists get these vehicles.. ie .. show us what the car does in full traction control mode .. where the cars electronics can kill drive to wheels .. and show us when traction control is switched off ! .. it makes a huge difference on uphill momentum.. and in deep mud too .. let's see also a tyre change from road tyres to an all terrain.. it makes so much difference.. when andre tested this jeep he gave up on a trail ! Simply because the electronics cut the power to the wheels , where possibly with all wheels producing spin would have got it through .

    • @StephendeVriesza
      @StephendeVriesza 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think the manual crosstrek has a low enough 1st gear. Would be a lot of clutch feathering to get up there and we all know how subaru love to burn clutches.

    • @subazealand9158
      @subazealand9158 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say yes, but it will take more time than these Jeep to react. If you try it with a manual one, forget it...the clutch is not enough strong, and VDC doesn't work as good as it works in the AT models, so it won't really stop any wheel to send power to the other one, will just cut the power and kill the engine.

    So full disclaimer for anyone looking to purchase one. I owned one for a year, I lifted it with the Daystar Lift and put K02 tires on. THIS IS NOT A REAL 4x4 system. 4low is not real 4low. It will do something until it won't. That might not makes sense but when it stops at an obstacle that's too much, there is nothing you can do, try again, again again, it will not go over it, even if you have the clearance, this is because of the computer system cutting power. And you'll need to be tugged out! That being said, I took mine over the following 4x4 trails in Colorado with little to no problem. Black Bear Pass, Engineer Pass, Ophir Pass, Corkscrew Gulch, Animas Forks, California Pass, Imogene Pass, and a few other smaller dirt road trails. It is not an easy vehicle to do these in because it has no live axels, so it constantly feels like it's going to flip! In addition, if your traveling with people, the seats aren't very comfortable and there is not enough room for true overlanding. It is a lot of fun though for those who need a Trail head vehicle or a NatPark Warrior. Be warned though, I do not recommend even doing what they did without a lift and better tires, the wrangler SRA's are total S.. H... I... T.. and will pop on the first rocky obstacle. That is all.

    I just picked up a 2021 Renegade Trailhawk and traded in a 2019 Cherokee Limited. One of the main reasons I chose it is because when I test drove it I kept thinking to myself, “God, this feels incredibly Jeepy compared to my Cherokee.” The other main reason? It made me smile.

    Excellent review ! Check out my Google+ page. There I found some videos of the diesel engine Trailhawk version. It would be interesting for this version, you have to test !
    In Europe "Jeep Renegade Trailhawk" have diesel engine and nine-speed
    automatic gearbox ! 2.0 MJET 170hp TRAILHAWK ,9AT / 4x4 LOW. This is a
    2.0 liter Fiat turbo diesel engine ! This is probably a pretty good
    version! Not Trailhawk version has also a 2.0 Fiat diesel engine, but
    140hp! It probably will not move so well as Trailhawk 2,0 / 170 hp
    versioon.Obviously it depends on the Differential gear ratios .
    Trailhawk version has a higher ground clearance than a just renegade!
    And the price is good!

    I really really want one of those! Only problem being the price. 30k grand is not that steep in Denmark, but then comes taxes and VAT and all that, and suddenly you're looking at a 60k+ car! For reference: A brand new Fiat 500 1.2 Popstar MTA costs 27k US$ (converted)...

    this car is in an Odd Spot. If I wanted offroad, I ll buy a Jeep Wrangler. If I want a crossover, midsize, for TOWN and people moving, I ll get a Toyota Rav 4. This car seems to be oddly trying both.

    Everything is lovely about the design of this car except the fact that I avoid Jeep and its headache. My 2010 Patriot was almost like throwing money out of the window with its poor reliability and I could not wait to let it go. This cute one and the Cherokee had some issues in the transmission programming since their birth as far as I heard... And long term reliability is uncertain but I hope it won't be as bad as the Patriot. Also I can't believe the fact this little guy costs, here in Canada, the price of my 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Premium that has a capable AWD system and enough ground clearance for such light off-roading. Not mentioning superior reliability and more value for money.

    I would love it if it was offered with the Pentastar V6 and the 8-speed ZHF transmission. That would be awesome. And maybe an LSD.

    • @donaldweber7636
      @donaldweber7636 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 8 speed ZF transmission is for longitudinal mount only, not transverse. And the Renegade uses the 9 speed transmission.

    • @ivanmatz5812
      @ivanmatz5812 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Donald Weber Well, maybe the six-speed the used to use on Ram 1500s. I know it uses the nine speed, I"m suggesting it should be changed.

      Ivan Matz The Renegade has a transverse mounted engine. Nothing from a truck would fit in any shape or form.

      If you want that set up just go with a Cherokee trail hawk. Few more thousand but you get your V6 and slightly bigger vehicle

    there's something that you don't bring up I know it's almost everybody doesn't bring up about the multiair 2.4 liter what everybody is not stating about the multiair is the fact that the multiair is a hydraulically assist valve body takes the cam and makes it mild and hot which is giving you a hot cam or a mild cam I just don't know when would be nice if you could bring it up to some people so they know that it does have a feature that most injuns don't have just thought you should know thank you bye

    I was looking at a used 2016 Renegade Trailhawk while waiting for an oil change to be done on my Nissan Rogue, and I have to say this is a cool little vehicle. I noticed hidden lizards on it! and with the snow and potholes and road conditions where I live in NE PA, they seem to do well. After seeing this I can tell it has the chops to back up its body trimmings. Very cool indeed.

    Its great that a computer can figure out to get you up a hill but that takes the fun and adventure out of climbing a grade. Anyone can hold a small amount of throttle and sit there to let the computer figure out what tire needs power. I guess that is all part of bridging the gap of a city commuter car and getting it up a hillside. No matter what, this is still a car and not a true Jeep. It is no more a Jeep than any other vehicle out there with terrain management.

      Its not intended to be a hardcore off-roader. It is intended for easy/moderate 4WD roads. It would still make it through any of the passes on the alpine loop, argentine pass, etc.

    Is there any difference between this renegade vs the other 4x4 trim models?

    • @jerroldshelton9367
      @jerroldshelton9367 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      On this vehicle, "Renegade" is the model. "TrailHawk" is the trim. TrailHawk trim gets you a slightly taller ride height over other trims. It gets you different front bodywork resulting in a 30-ish degree approach angle. And it gets you a 20:1 overall low gearing, which doesn't seem that low until you consider that S10 Blazers and Bronco II's "back in the day" with 3.42 final drive, four-speed automatic transmissions, and two-speed transfer cases had a similar "crawl ratio." It acts lower-geared than it is, due to additional 2:1 torque multiplication off-idle from the torque converter. You also get additional underbody protection and recovery points on the TrailHawk. If you plan on getting one and getting it dirty, the TrailHawk trim is the trim you want. If you're somewhere in the world where diesel power is offered in this vehicle, that's the one I'd go for, but I have no problem getting most places I want to go in wild country in my 2015 with the 2.4L petrol engine.

      For sure, you should do cliffhanger 2.0 with a Cherokee TH (I can personally attest that the Cherokee will do Cliffhanger 1.0).

    • @donaldweber7636
      @donaldweber7636 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Cherokee doesn't have the ground clearance for 2.0. My SJ Cherokee has 8.5" of clearance under the diffs, and I still hit some rocks on 2.0.

    • @mrvwbug4423
      @mrvwbug4423 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Donald Weber the KL has 9 inches of clearance with no low hanging diffs. a few minor hits to the skidplate is no biggie.
