    Hi!
    I’ve been inspired by you and your channel for quite a while. You’re fare better than me when it comes to painting.
    One thing surprises me, though!
    You have 100 times as much subscriber’s as I have, and one of the first things that I learned when I started my channel was to look in the camera not in the screen beside the camera.
    My humble suggestion an advice is to look in the camera and not at the side screen.
    I really like your channel , so this was only friendly advise/Question

    Hi Gunny, Nice work once again :) . I've just finished painting and polishing a Tuxedo Black VK Calais and learnt a lot trying a few different polishing methods and products along the way. I've got some of the Sonax PROFILINE NANO POLISH 03-06 which i tried using as an intermediate cut and it worked quite well. The problem I found with it was that any 'splatter', unless cleaned off would stain. I made the mistake of letting the splatter dry in one area and came back the next day and it wouldn't wipe off. Tried a wet rag, tried carwash, tried prepsol, nothing would remove the splatter spots. Had to polish it again to get rid of the spots. Any splatter from the other polish I used (Colad One-Step) would wipe away, even after a day or so drying time.

    If You like the Flex sander you need to try the Merka brushless electric DA. The Merka Is much lighter and feels like a normal palm sander.They do the Merka in a 5mm orbit and a 2.5mm for fine sanding

    Very informative video Gunny, I do prefer it when you talk live to the camera while you are working I just think you give more info on what you are doing at any given moment, doing a voiceover is fine but it's sometime hard to remember every detail plus as you say it must take twice as long to edit.
    That sander looks very nice mate and it sounds the same as my electric Mirka Deros which is a great bit of kit, like you I changed from air to electric sanders but for me it was a case of my poor compressor was complaining each time I used an air tool on it.
    I remember you painting that roof Gunny and was surprised to see how bad it's got in a relatively short time, I thought the Quartz clear would have lasted longer but at the end of the day it is a cheapish product.
    I told you I got a Sata X5500, used it for the first time today and have to say I love it, the finish was as good as my DV1 so for the first time I can't complain, hopefully it will get better as I get used to it.
    Thanks for doing these home/diy type videos Gunny I'm finding them very interesting 🙏👍 John UK.

    As a long-term part-timer, I often come back to watch your vids when a job screws up. Thanks mate you are real asset.
    I have a suspicion about 2 stage or hybrid buffing compounds, I have not been getting good or immediate results.
    The 3M Perfect-it multistage compound was supposed to be the bees knees. I'm not impressed.
    As I understand it, you apply the compound and it decomposes with heat from a course cut to a finishing compound....job done. ??
    That may be the case in a high turnover shop. However, I am in hot Queensland and it seems that half the container has now degraded to near useless.

    This came at a great time. I just painted my truck and for the most part it came out pretty well. Some orange peel in spots and a little bit of dust on the horizontal parts The vertical parts were nearly dust free and I attribute that to wetting the floor down throughout the whole paint job. I didn't rewet the floor before i put the final coat of clear on and thats when the dust showed up. I had tacked between all base coats and the first 2 coats of clear had nothing in them but that third coat got some dust because of it I'm sure of it and also I was getting tired and just wanted to finish it and I was a little lax in not cleaning the air hose off before the third coat. It was a long day. I was expecting to have to cut and buff which is why I put 3 coats of clear on it in the first place. The hood was the worse, everything else came out great.

    Great video man! I enjoyed your at home videos and one day want to repaint some of the body panels on my car. This series has definitely given me some more confidence. Also have you tried Griots fast correcting cream? It doesn't cut as well as the Sonax Ultimate cut but it leaves a really nice finish despite being able to cut through 1500-2000 grit scratches decently well depending on pad, I usually can just skip the finer polishes and it will still be really glossy. It's also wipes off super easily and doesn't splatter as much compared to Sonax which I find a bit oily. I only use the Sonax when I need the extra cut.

  • @majesticdetail3422
    @majesticdetail3422 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video gunny. I would loved to see you finish out those panels. Sonax is what I use and it's a great system. Your marring could come from your pad selection, the pad is to rough for your paint. Adjust the pads and you'll be fine. 👍

    • @TheGunmanChannel
      @TheGunmanChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks man. As for the marring I've tried every pad I could, even the ultra fine microfiber, but still there. Sonax is great. Hope you've been well mate, thanks for watching.

    Hey gunman hope you’re doing well, I’ve been watching your content recently and am heavily considering becoming a spray painting apprentice. I’m 19, At the moment I was doing carpentry but have been very interested in spray painting. The work looks satisfying and something id like to do as a career but when I decided to visit one of the top smash repair shops in my area and asked the workers about the work, a lot of them told me to have a think about other career choices. The 3rd apprentice mostly talked about how the industry isn’t future proof, and with the rise of electric vehicles he believed in 20 years or so when electric becomes the norm everyone will have set their cars on autopilot to drive and the rates of accidents will decrease significantly meaning smash repair shops will eventually die out or be low on work. I was wondering what your thought on this would be like? I know right now the industry can be very lucrative but im unsure on the future. Thank you for reading!

      Auto pilot might prevent major accident at some point if they ever figure it out, but it's not going to prevent paint damage in parking lots, or while parking. All of the "self-parking" tech I've seen so far is a total joke.
