What’s strange is-though there is some turnover in NFL front offices, the teams themselves seem to be creatures of habit. So much so that they will repeat history over and over again until they get it right.
Unfortunately for a lot of the teams across the NFL, there is no “getting it right” when it comes to the draft. Instead, they continue to be plagued by the same Draft Day blunders year in and year out.
Let’s take a look back at the last few years-and check out every NFL team’s favorite mistake to make in the draft.

I came to the comments for this comment. It was the first one I saw. The Andrew Thomas shade was ridiculous, and you can’t judge kayvon or Neal yet. This was a huge reach… could have made a comment about drafting corners early.

Kayvon is a really good player sacks are not the most important thing, Evan Neal is coming along and getting better, and Andrew Thomas is one of the best tackles in the league

@@c-romcaseyromaniello3907 Good, Maybe I would say better than good if I knew how to evaluate offensive linemen ? I think PFF player grades are trash was my point. Actually a big Giants fan and the consensus on Thomas is that he is on his way to a big contract if he keeps playing the way he has been.
If PFF's grade is correct in this instance all I can really say to that is even a blind chicken gets a little corn every now and then...

I mean, they aren’t household names, besides Emerson, but a good chunk are contributors. These are 3rd rounders, not 1st or 2nds. They aren’t gonna be day 1 starters at first in a lot of cases I’d say, so the fact that they make impacts for the team is a clear sign that it’s just the “Browns are the Browns” mentality.
To be fair to the Jets, Sanchez at least got them to the AFC Championship after going through Peyton Manning AND Tom Brady.

I liked the Zeke pick overall. If we hadn't resigned him to a monster deal after his third year it would have been better because that's when he really started to fall off imo. I think our biggest draft issue is not evaluating defensive tackles very well. Taco Charlton was complete ass, especially as a 1st rounder after he performed like a 5th round practice squad guy, and Trysten Hill went in the 2nd and wasn't as bad as Taco, still not good though. Hopefully we can change that this year because as far as I'm concerned if we get a good gap hog on the interior to push collapse the inside of the pocket the rest of the defense is good enough to make shit happen

My Rams are in a heap of trouble! We traded away Jalen Ramsey, released Leonard Floyd, and let so many others go elsewhere thru free agency. Some people think Les Snead is a good GM. I don't know about that. Many people think we will be horrible in the 2023-24 season. Hoping we have a decent draft next weekend, to at least do better than 5-12 this upcoming season, which was our 2022-23 record. It's a MUST!!!!

Andrew Thomas is meh? Did you even watch any games this year? In TPS’s defense, it’s hard to make a video like this because most players are not elite in their first year in the NFL. Just because they don’t stand out in their first year or 2 does not make them a mistake 😑

Exactly. And David Bell was a good possession receiver at Purdue, but he was banged up last year on top of missing training camp time and not to mention was playing with a backup QB for eleven games.
But we can't forget about these third rounders: Anthony Schwartz (blah), Cody Kessler (good call there Hue). But from 2006-2011 we only had one third rounder.
What TPS should have done was the history of us "missing big time with the first round #22 pick", that history is pretty funny.
1. Greg Dulcich was a great player when he was in the field. 2. Jeudy broke out last year 3. It’s rlly drafting qbs (which of the qbs that they’ve drafted after Payton manning have been good qbs).
Brother, there's no way you keep Jeudy and Dulcich as part of the stinker group. Jeudy could be a beast, he's had the worst Russel Wilson we've ever seen, Bridgewater, Lock, Driskel and Rypien throwing him the ball. And Dulcich is really underutilized in the offensive scheme imo, which hopefully Payton will help. (Real worst is our QB drafts, Lock, Siemian..... Lynch.)

He's an all-pro, arguably the best tackle in the league. He was PFF's top rated player in the entire league for the first half of the 2022 season.
Cedric Obeghui, Billy Price, Kevin Zeitler, Jonah Williams: all first round OL by the Bengals.
Calling Ravens pass catchers underachieving is fair, but the only one taken in the first round is Rashod Bateman, and the rest were from rounds 3-6. Furthermore, Bateman was doing great this year until he got hurt, and now he is going to share space with OBJ and Zay Flowers
Disagree on the Mack trade for Chicago. He led a fantastic defense in 2018. That defense carried the team for the majority of a 12 - 4 season.

Ezekiel was a bad example for Dallas. He led the league in rushing as a rookie. TPS should have mentioned Taco Charlton if they really knew what they were talking about.

Pitt has 2 first round picks this year, 17 and 32. If one of the big 3 CBs isn’t available at 17 hopefully they go OT. Since the CB class is so deep and the OT class isn’t. They could honestly go for a guy like Darnell Wright at 17 then go for a CB at 32. Someone like Kelee Ringo, Emmanuel Forbes or potentially but unlikely Deonte Banks. (However given the fact they signed OT Le’Raven Clark in FA in concerned that Pitt will not draft a OT and instead will role with Dan Moore as LT for one more year.)
Technically, the #32 pick was the first pick of the second round. Miami got penalized for something, losing a first round pick.
For the Packers, I an justify not making picks to "win now," with the Rodgers selection working out, but you've got to wonder if you want Super Bowls as well? With that said, I believe the Packers are actually worse at selecting in the third round, and I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned because it was for the Browns. To name a few selections: Jace Sternberger, Oren Burks, Josiah Deguara, and Amari Rodgers. Ty Montgomery was their most recent "ok" third round pick.
The only real first-round busts for the Giants in the last 5 yrs or so were Toney and Baker, the jury is still out on Neal but Saquon was a good pick, DJ although he admittedly was a reach has been the 2nd best QB in the class so that was the right choice, Dex was an all-pro last year, same thing with Andrew Thomas, and Thibs was def, not amazing but he was very solid for us and has potential to grow. Sacks are not everything and he was a big contributor in other ways. I mean just watch that Washington game the potential is there.

I can't justify the Bears trading up for Mitch (they essentially won a bidding war against themselves), but that's a good way to put it. However, the Khalil Mack trade at the time was a good move, since they believed in Mitch Trubisky. And sometimes the only way you can make a deep run in the league is when you have a young QB on a rookie contract who is a rather unknown commodity going into that season.

Which makes sense with their issues in trading assets for underachieving QBs like Mayfield, Darnold, and Young/Stroud (hopefully that won’t be the case)
Robert Griffin III would have been a great quarterback if the commanders had not completely mismanaged his injuries
I don't get the bears comp, as a fan I'd say we have had trouble draft qbs prior to fields. And the kahlil mack trade lead us to a 12-4 season and a division win. We should have been super bowl contenders the following years but Nagy was mentally broken after the double doink.

Apparently the Saints were discussing taking Patrick Mahomes while Drew Brees was in the war room and he didn't take kindly to it, resulting in them snagging Marshon Lattimore once KC jumped in front of them. Payton had had golf course discussions with Andy Reid about Mahomes being a generational QB and better than the scouting reports were saying. But if you look at the QBs picked since then, which franchise QB have they had a chance at taking?
