Nice Video! thanks for picking up the GNSS Topic and as a result reacting to comments that are mentioning this subject. I was not able to tinker with the new INAV Version. But you got a good summary to the GNSS topic. Summary - just test what GNSS System will stick and run with it. The more GNSS System are on ->More Sat -> better performance. Its nice that Inav is crosschecking these setting and will reset it when something is not working. Technically GPS and GLONASS should work fine. Most Hobby Grade Recaiver can work with these 2 Systems. Known as 2G Recaivers. 4G Recaiver should take all 4 GNSS. There are 3G Recaivers, but its rare. When you have a 4G Recaiver and it will not take all 4 GNSS, then maybe there is still a bug or something in INAV. Or the UBLOX7 Protokoll got a problem. Or the channel size on the Recaiver s to smal and would overload the memory. As I said, i did not look into it for now. A very good notion from you is the loading time on first use. The Almanach from all possible GNSS had to be loaded. That can take up to 15 min (worse case) Normally it take a few minutes. After that the Almanach is in the permanent memory and will be appled and updated on the fly by regular use. When you put your Recaiver in the cabinet for 2-3 Month, the recaiver had to check the Date on the almanach and had to reload it - resulting in a wait time again. The Error image for a missing Almanach is pretty simple. He will not show a Sattelite Count, even when he is recaiving signals. Sometimes one Almanach is laoded like GPS and he will show 6 Sattelites and a bit later a secound GNSS Almanach is loaded and the Sat count will go up. However. Good Video. I will look into the new INAV Version soon. my AR Wing Pro has to be updated :) Best Regards David
BRILLIANT! Thanks so much for posting this video Darren. Since migrating fron INAV 6 to INAV 7, my GPS functionality has not been as good on my 7" quad. With INAV 6, I routinely had around 20 satellites locked and my position hold was really quite stable. When I switched to INAV 7 (and the newest configurator 7.0.1) I rarely got even 10 satellites and my GPS hold has been pretty wonky. I thought the problem might be that I was not searching all satellites that might be available so I tried to turn all tabs on but had the cluster reset issue that you described upon save & reboot... 🤔I was stumped and was considering going back to INAV 6. So I took your advice and activated the UBLOX 7 tab as well as the first two constellation tabs (EU and CN but not RU). I saved and rebooted and VOILA! I am showing 15 satellites INDOORS at my computer! I can't wait to recalibrate the magnetometer and do a flight test tomorrow. Your info was a godsend. I was beating my head against the wall. I should note that when I initially hit save & reboot, after making the changes, I got a hardware health alarm and NO GPS alarm 😮. I actually thought I had damaged the GPS module somehow but powering down the module and powering it back up cured the hardware health alarm and I acquired 15 satellites almost instantly. I should also note that I am in the USA (Arizona) and activating the EU tab and the CN tab works here too. Thanks again for the GREAT information Darren. I hope you have a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2024. Happy flying amigo.
I’m glad it was helpful. There is actually work happening so that all the 3 GNSS can be used together in a future version too. Even more satellite fixes 😁
Thanks again Darren. It was so helpful. Today I was able to acquire 20 satellites and my position hold was better than it's ever been. I'll keep eyes open for the INAV 7 update. Happy flying my friend.

your video save me some hairs, as a first time inav user, setting up the all these sensors are a little more daunting than betaflight. i only just manage to calibrate the lidar, took me awhile to calibrate the gyro (thinking only need one calibration, but later realize you need all axis calibration), then when comes to gps, i cant get the life of me turn on and get some sats. been reviewing my tx rx and thought of my soldering skills are quite bad. sub
I’m glad it helped. I think the new GPS options caught out a few seasoned INAV pilots too. So don’t feel bad 👍🏻 Hopefully in the next release, all 3 can be selected. So long as the module supports them.
Hey Darren will be seeing you on Patreon again soon. Back from a long hiatus! Great video-I was wondering why the GNSS choices were going back to unselected! I believe you are not far from Portsmouth-we have a grandson studying law in London. I will visit him sometime this year and would like to go flying with you! Ron
Perhaps it would be helpful if invalid constellations were greyed out directly in the configurator. Otherwise helpful as always, many thanks and a happy new year!
Hi Darren. Thanks so much for your informative videos. One question if I may, I have always used Ardupilot for mission planning so when I go to the flying field all that is neccessary is to arm the plane with my radio transmitter then switch to AUTO and then just toss the plane into the air. I never have to fly the plane or even touch the sticks . The plane flies the mission and lands back at my feet. So is it this easy on INAV?
No, it will not enter a mission directly from launch. The landing mission needs to be set up based on a safehome (INAV 7.1 feature). INAV is more focused on flying the aircraft, rather than full automation. Though in recent versions the mission features have improved.
Hi, I was scrolling through the comment section and didn't see this question anywhere. Before I arm I make sure I have at least 6 satellites as you mentioned. When I arm and take off everything seems to work (ground speed, distance from home, latitude and longitude, etc) only the home direction arrow doesn't do anything. It just shows a "-" instead of an arrow. Any idea what this could be? I am using a m10 module on a 7" quad and an o3 air unit with the v2 goggles and I use the BFHDCOMPAT mode in the OSD tab. Thanks in advance!
The - usually means its at the home point. So it sounds like the home point may not be set. Which version of INAV and have you disabled the arming safety feature?
@@MrD I thought so too. The - stays throughout the entire flight (even far away from the home point). To my knowledge, I did not turn off any safety features. Which things should definitely be on?
The BN880 should be fine if you set to UBLOX7 and keep the baud at 115200. The issue is actually ArduPilot. It changes the baud rate setting in the GNSS module. To get it working in INAV, you will need to set the baud rate for the GPS port to 230400. Once INAV has connected to the GNSS and it talking with it, you can drop the baud back down to 115200. Why ArduPilot does this, I haven't a clue. The GNSS does not update quick enough to need a baud rate that fast. 115200 baud is 115200Hz. The latest M10 modules only update at 25Hz. So the port at 115200 baud is already updating 4608 times faster than the GNSS module updates.
Hi Darren. Thanks for the headsup. Unfortunately l no longer get a satfix since upgrading to inav7. Everything shows as ok in inav gps tab. I have a fast blue flashing led on gps module (beitian 220). But no sat locks at all. On inav 4 i would get 15 easily. Have I missed something here. Do I need to play around with baudrates?
Nope, leave the baud as 15200. Use UBLOX7 and enable Galileo. If it’s not been used in a while. It may take time to fetch the almanac. There’s no reason why you wouldn’t get that many satellites again.
