    In fact I found the very same pressure washer in a dumpster and this was the problem.

    I don’t have a problem with your procedure for the most part, but I have two suggestions. 1) both of the valve rockers are easily removed to get them out of the way when changing the cam pulley and 2) you should NEVER blow any debris from cleaning the valve cover sealer. Instead, you should always carefully scrape the old sealer away from the center of engine so that none of the debris falls into the crankcase.

    Excellent video, Jeff. Thought I had a leaky valve cover on my GCV190 but turns out it was the O-ring seal on the cam pulley shaft that you pointed out. Thanks for the information!

    Nice job Jeff: I have had to split the case on those type of engines to replace the belt in the past. You did a good job not having to do that to change that gear.

      You only need to split the crank case to replace the timing belt. Its an easy job to replace the camshaft by just removing the top cover.

    Honda makes a great engine alright but why they use sealant vs. gasket on the valve cover is beyond me. It takes me 15 min. to adjust valves but a tedious hour or more just to get the old sealant off. So, a month ago I did a ring job on a GCV160 (lawn mower) and after I cleaned the cover, I traced & cut a gasket out of regular FelPro rubber/fiber gasket material instead of the goo. As of today there is no leak. It is winter so I haven't used it extensively but I did start and run it hot for 20 minutes or so. Grass cutting season will be a better test but so far so good.

      That's a great idea. I bought 3 different covers for my Honda mower because mine kept leaking. Turns out, it was leaking from the o-ring/pin below the pulley and not the cover itself. Ooof.

    nice video like the details ... You should get a shop vac so you don't accidentally blow the gasket in a motor with the air compressor

    Did your cam pulley come with a replacement cam pulley shaft and a new O-ring? I must have missed you replacing it in your video, and do you have a link to purchase that blue (FIPG)? good info thanks for sharing.

    I'm sure it would be the same procedure for the GVC Push mower model 160 cc also right . You do think that the valves would need to be adjusted too then .

    As long as the crank shaft does not move and the pulley marks are correct you don't have to mark the belt. If the belt moved on the crank gear it would be wrong.

    I have issues with the gcv engines. Almost all of them on pressure washers are are to pull or will rip the pull rope out of your hands. The compression release looks like it's working but another mechanic to me if it's that hard to pull start then the compressor release isn't working.
    What other suggestions do you have about these particular engines and why they are so hard to pull start

      When the rope jerks back out of your hand OUCH! It is often because of a sheared/partially sheared flywheel key

      Then the valves and the clearance.

    I liked your video. I tried to follow all your suggestions but I'm not sure what I did wrong but when I finished it still has no compression relief. If I somehow messed up on getting the correct cogs lined up. What to do to correct this?

      They updated the valve cover to include a guide to cover the top of the timing belt from coming up off the pulley which causes majority of the issues on the GC and GCV motors.

    I’m amazed that the timing belt gets saturated in engine oil. That’s something you try to avoid on a car engine.

    Is this a interference engine? Basically if my belt snaps will the valves hit the pistions and kill itself?

      Exhaust is on the wrong side for most go karts. Points the muffler towards the seat if your pto is on the left like it is on most karts.

    Jeff, I have a Honda question for you, unrelated to this video. My HRX217 (190cc) runs too fast. This is after I replaced the piston, rings, connecting rod- which exploded last year. The transplant went well, but now I can't adjust the governor arm enough to slow things down. My tach reads about 4600 rpm. The engine runs great but I know it won't run like this for long before something breaks. After failing with the governor arm, I tried loosening the spring that is at the bottom of the arm. I tried removing everything on the intake side including the carb, mount, governor arm, etc. and I have the governor pin at it's limit clockwise. Any ideas? Thanks.

      The govenor on the inside of the engine may need to be replaced. I have a video on this

    Any idea what the timing belt life on these engines is? Looks like a huge pain if you were to habe to replace that belt completely.

    How critical is it to have the timing belt pointed exactly the same way as it was before with the cam shaft pulley?

      As long as the cam is still in time it doesn't matter what position the belt is at

    only matters if the lower gear slips if you have the belt marked like you do ,,, As long as you have the bottom end at TDC then you just have to make sure the cam is line up with the 2 notches on the side ( make sure cam lobe is pointing straight up )

      @Jeff's Little Engine Service I do the same just to be sure , but it's Still good practice to ensure the notches are lined up with the head ,, for someone who don't no alot it could put them in a situation if they marked the belt then moved it 4 notches on the crank then lined up there marks without confirming the notches ,, I have one right now I'm working on I think it's the plug ,, runs great for a few mins then bogs out and dies fuel systems cleaned carbs cleans valves are set gap is set on the coil and ground cleaned so the plug is the only thing I think it could be considering how good it runs when it does ,, and I seen that online this particular plug has been known to die suddenly on a few occasions,, Have any input on that ?
