When tonguing I would say I’m above average for my age and/or time of playing the flute but I just tried double and triple tonguing and definitely have trouble with getting the sounds right with my embouchure, even without my embouchure.

When I single tongue from the low notes to high the position of where my tongue presses moves, am I doing something incorrect or is it ok? . I think when I'm moving to the high notes my jaw is probably moving forward which is then moving my tongue towards my lips.

I'm a flutist but also a speech therapist, so from a linguistics perspective, substituting D for T and G for K as in duh guh instead of tuh kuh builds up less air pressure behind your tongue and would be easier for people who are struggling to just say (without their flute) tuh kuh tuh kuh.
Also, Amelie warned us to not break the airstream with tonguing, and that reminder might help you a lot if your tonguing breaks down. Finally, a speech exercise for tongue coordination improvement is to practice tonguing using different emphasis patterns like: TUH kuh and tuh KUH, or for triple tonguing --
    TUH kuh tuh,
    tuh KUH tuh,
    tuh kuh TUH,
and even KUH tuh TUH for triple tonguing an accented note.
Thanks for the great exercises, Amelie!

im quite late :D but this happened to me!! Somehow id get confused when i double tongued even on scales as in ‘what do i do next’ and I’d get lost in the pattern. what basically fixed the problem overnight was forcing myself to very very slowly double tongued certain passage and bring it up to speed. i realised that as soon as i could double tongue that passage, i didn’t have that problem with anything anymore. hope this helps!!!

Hi Amelie! Thank you again so very much for this video! For triple tonguing, your suggestion to practice "KTK KTK KTK" has been invaluable to me. It makes practicing "TKT TKT TKT" so much easier. "KTK KTK KTK" was really difficult for the first few days, but now it's become much easier in a remarkably short period of time. Thank you!!! There's a wonderful article that deals with French pronunciation and how it affects flute playing. This includes the controversy between 't' 'k' and 'd' 'g' among other things.
The reference is: Valette, Rebecca M. “The French School: What is so French about It?” The Flutist Quarterly 36, no. 1 (Fall 2010): 22-35.

There is no real difference when you play the flute. The tongue should be in the same place when you tongue with any vowel. We say a vowel when we talk but when we play the articulation it is the consonant that matters most.

    Hi Amelie!
how fast can a master like yourself go with triple tongueing?
I am a newbie and my best is about 150 sets of "tkt" each minute
But one problem I am facing is when I go really fast, the actual sound plays for lets say a millisecond or so, when the interval between my tongue touching the roof two times is say 3 millisecond.
    I do blow constantly tho.
So when I just take my tongue off the roof, no sound (the air does not resonate and goes shshshs) for a millisecond, correct sound sounds for a millisecond and then again no sound (just shshsh sound) for a millisecond, and then the tongue touches the roof again...
As a result the sounds kind of feel unnatural as a good proportion of the blowing goes into "kshshhh"
So what proportion of the time between each time the tongue hits the roof should the air be resonating?
I know it is not a full 100 but I don't know how much is acceptable either...
And finally I simply love the intuitive ways you teach the flute- Thank you so much for such A wonderful channel!

It's not the usual way to do it. It's a matter of articulation and projection of the note. Also, Ta Ga causes fatigue to most people than ta ka would. I think will make a video all about articulation soon. But also maybe you could think Da Ga instead of Ta Ga.
