What was your first impression of Rave Master? How does it compare to Fairy Tail?

I stopped reading One PIece at maybe around 200 chapters, because it just wasn't pleasant for me how the art had been getting more and more scribbly with detail that didn't really add quality to the art, other than being busy. I wish more long-running series had their Rave as a opposed to Fairy Tail going on and on and on.
So people are more free to just honestly say they prefer Rave, not some vague selection of chapters in an ongoing series nobody may read out of order. Rather than keep on pretending that to implant the same characters in generic shonen situations, makes for a "better" story that can refer back to its "world building".
All you get is people nagging you into catching up, and every time I do it's just some shallow vicarious expereince bait, where readers can feel like seeing an old face again is a bit like not having all their friendships degrade over lack of keeping in touch.

Rave is still IMO Mashima's best work, because every plot point or battle doesn't end with power of friendship deus ex machina. Great analysis, Rave might have a basic/weak start, but by the end, the story and characters are firing on all cylinders. Early Rave feels like Fairy Tail pre-Tenrou time skip, where world building takes center stage and evil organizations are running amok. The series deserves a second anime adaptation even though that will likely never happen.

One of the earliest memories was watching it randomly one night on Toonami, ever since ive always had a soft spot for Rave Masters. Looking back on the art for exam feels like a time capsule in itself because i also remember what i was doing at the time watching the show(playing with friends on the sidewalk or at the library for random book things.) years later i was able to read the entire from start to finish and boy was that a blazt! I definitely recommend anyone read Rave Master and Mishima stories and one shot, you can see how his thoughts progress shift and change depending on the story.

Rave was like a fever dream because I saw the anime Rave Master first, but when I was like 11 on the Toonami block; yet when I met other anime fans in high school in like 2009, no one had any idea what I was talking about. It wasn't until that same year, the Fairy Tail anime started and I saw Plue (where I freaked as I recognized Plue because it's Plue) that I had the means to actually find Rave to read for myself once I learned the anime didn't cover all of it. It also became the 1st manga series I bought in its entirety, so it's a special place in my heart, right next to Shaman King as the 1st manga I read in its entirety.
I will say though, as a Hiro Mashima fan, it's really hard to compare Rave and Fairy Tail as one inspired the other, and they are tonally very different at their core. Rave is a lot more mature in most of its story beats than Fairy Tail, which people complain as being too light hearted, but Rave is also a lot more constricted than Fairy Tail due to being locked to an overarching plot, whereas Fairy Tail is more free in story structure as each arc is following the job/event that's focused. A fair comparison to story structure in my mind would be Rave is like Avatar the Last Airbender and Fairy Tail is like Legend of Korra. The overarching plot that is too deal with the issue told from the very beginning where and the other later series is more about handling issues that arise in a season/arc and resolving them within it and compounding consequences that follow through the story going forward. Essentially, issues that people have with Fairy Tail that drags the story down, those same people will probably enjoy Rave more (especially once the Gales show up). That being said, people that find issue with the storytelling and "edgy" cast of Rave will probably enjoy the fun romp of Fairy Tail. Edens Zero (now that it's ended) after 1 read through, I'd place as a kinda middleground between Rave and Fairy Tail; plus, it's a departure from high fantasy into a sci-fi setting. Edens Zero, I feel pulls from both Rave and Fairy Tail, and I won't say how due to spoilers, but if you've read both, you can tell. Mashima's newest work, Dead Rock, is still too new to make judgments on in my mind. I'm enjoying the premise shown so far and excited to see where it goes.
I do wish that a studio picked up Rave and redid the anime in Mashima's modern style and current access to animation techniques. The later half is insane and would look so beautiful animated, people will cry at those arc endings. Someone else pointed out how time travel is something Mashima likes to use and the way it's done in Rave is one of the most iconic ways to end a time travel story that I want to emulate in my own writing. And the savagery of that final battle arc is so brutal, but an anime adaptation would just go viral and receive so much acclaim. Like Attack on Titan, the rumbling did not hit as hard as those last battles of Rave.
Anyway, I see Rave and I click and comment. Rave, Shaman King, Katekyo Hitman Reborn, Soul Eater, and Zatch Bell are in my list of sleeper hits, so I support where I see it.

For me the story started off kinda corny (though that might just be the translation) it felt very cookie cutter. And in retrospect the whole first big turning point feels like where the story might’ve ended if kodansha pulled the plug, because after that I feel like the story really opened up (like fighting through a bunch of mini bosses and the “final boss” only to realize that you had only explored a fraction of the whole map) the characters where also given more individual development that went a lot deeper, including it’s villains. I feel like Doryu’s arc was the first arc that resembles his current formula with mega arcs like to Belial Goere and Oración Seis.

Sorry, this has nothing to do with this vid, but please her me out. I love one piece. but I truly hate some people who over praise it. Yeah, the story is good and its one of the reasons why it become popular. Still, for me Oda is like any other mangakas. He's not the only one who is awesome on this industry. Not even the sole and the mothers of the manga industry. Every mangaka is awesome and unique on their own way. People always overrating some mangaka [like Oda for one piece] for their popular manga and took down others who is less popular especially the one who share a same trait as the said manga [poor fairy tail]. Its hurt so much. How can we fix this community guys? 😞 Sorry for my amateurish English.

Rave Master is still my favorite work of Mashima. Fairy Tail I honestly consider it to be a big disappointment because it started off decently until it descended into mediocrity. Like so many Shonen battle series. Outside the rushed nature of the final arc, Rave knew how to pace itself and had some great characters. Ellie is a great character and I do love Haru and his weapon, the Ten Commandments( awesome name for a sword). Rave didn’t reinvent the wheel but was a decent one. That’s all I ask. Some decent characters and a plot that isn’t Swiss cheese with its construction. Note I haven’t read Eden zero so I can’t judge that series.
