@moneybrown6011 I would say a good design make would be more important but not everyone minds whether characters are attractive. I would say average characters are okay but people call average female characters ugly but at least average male characters are okay.

The best recent examples of strong women in Bleach were Nanao and Nemu assisting in and saving their respective captains in their fights.
Nemu: The often silent and stoic Lieutenant who listens to Maiyuri like a dog, finally gains her own Autonomy. Paying attention to Maiyuri’s slip ups and making a game play to save him.Say what you will of how Maiyuri treated Nemu but their relationship is like Aliens they were never meant for a standard human understanding of parent and child bonds. As Nemu is Maiyuri’s child and has been growing whether obvious or not. Maiyuri knew she still had more to grow and to evolve, which makes her sacrifice all the more tragic. Maiyuri wanted her to listen but her defiance is gave them the opportunity to win, in the end it was still Nemu’s own choice not one from another. If short, she finally left her nest.
And Nanao whose defining trait is her tenacity. Unlike Nemu, or even Rukia, or Yoruichi, She does not have the strength to back up physically. She’s never been hurt in battle or held a sword, it’s not in her rwepitware, and up against a godly foe she’s downright terrified. But she came back to fight anyway, her loyalty to Shunsui is what kept him going too. Swiss cheese body and all to stand behind her and helping one last time, together. It’s symbiotic. She’s not flashy as other women but still a key player in her own way and I respect that.
The thing I like about Bleach women is the diversity of character personality. I don’t like how shonen fans think to be a “good” character they have to be physically strong and a fighter, completely disregarding the fact you need a personality and personal traits to be unique in your own ways. And being comfortable and true in those traits and personal beliefs is what makes a good cast. I like Bleach women not because they’re physically strong, but just because they just act like women. Different traits for every one and that’s cool.

As a girl I can't help but express how much bleach female characters mean to me, even the characters people hate like orihime or momo mean so much to me, I never hated them, not even once I only ever saw them as people suffering from things similar as most girls, like momo suffering from the aftermath of aizen's betrayal, as much as I love him I can never forgive what happened to momo, poor girl's entirely world was ripped apart after it, she almost lost her will to live makes sense when you idolize someone for as long and go as far for them as she did, people dislike her for not locking in like "oh my beloved captain who made me had the worst breakdown with his death, hurt people, nearly made me lost my job as a shinigami which I loved and excelled at because of him and also made me k-word the person closest to me (toshiro) was a traitor all this time? Welp let's defeat him and call it a day" like, that just doesn't happen so easily, it never happens so easily, so seeing a sorta realistic portrayal being hurt by someone so close, where you deluded yourself to not accepting the truth about said person, is unfortunately relatable to me and others
and orihime is just such a sweetie, she encourages me to stay kind no matter what life throws at me, she's so kind and considerate, she didn't get mad at the kurosaki family when her brother passed away at their clinic, (which Ichigo had a doubt she was in the start) she wants to help everyone but she lacks confidence for it, she doesn't want to get in the middle of things and disturb everyone, because she doesn't want to lose anyone and be lonely like she was when her brother first died, orihime is a realistic portrayal of a teen girl who experienced lose but still willingly to make the best of everyday and for everyone,
and rukia, don't get me started on rukia, she's such a girls girl towards hime and an amazing wingman towards ichihime, one of my favorite thing about her was how she coped with the lost of lieutenant who was basically a father figure towards her (kaien Shiba) and how she was inspired to be like his wife, like a younger sister looking up to an older one, and her infatuation with cute things which every sanrio girlie can relate to, but she hides it because she wanna appear mature, responsible and not "kid-ish" , the point is rukia just genuinely feels like a real girl I would meet in real life, which is the reason why so many her aspiration, inspiration and struggles are very realistic and I'm glad she's one of the main character's of the show
And of course then there's the divas like yoruichi , who was basically a mentor towards ichigo (the protagonist that's a big deal) for some time, it's so refreshing seeing a woman who's naturally confident in her skills without having to bring anyone down to show it, one of my fav things about her (not to mention she's also a dark skinned girl so there's bonus for good and natural rep) and the fact that kubo created soi fon and her relationship with the idea that they aren't many female mentor-mentee duos in shounen mangas, shows that this man knows what he's doing and cares about it
The thing I really love about bleach girls is that they are great characters who don't deny their femininity to become strong, like a lot of (mostly male sometimes but women too) writers do to write a "strong/good" female characters is to strip them out of their traditional feminity, or to make them a "badass" female character, they just make everyone around them weak or an asshole (especially men)
kubo avoids this Hassle by creating female characters who are character first, female second,
For example, you register their pain and success from the screen first, before registering they are girls second
Bleach girls are amazing while being cute, funny, hot, they don't deny their love interests or the men they value around them,
Obviously bleach is not a 100% perfect series and it has its flaws like everything else, but I feel like people downfall a lot of girls, for the reason I mentioned earlier, there's more then one way of being good character who's female, a lot of people don't accept it till it's a certain way
Tite Kubo is THE GOAT for his writing and you are for making this banger video :)!

I think presently, the best written female characters in anime are from Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. Having a work that's more character focused than the vast majority of Shounen manga certainly helps, but that the character writing is so consistently high quality really puts Frieren up there in the zenith of the industry. However, I do think Kubo certainly deserves praise for developing strong dynamics between his characters, the women included.
Just looking at the current cour of the TYBW, we saw two well-composed and quite neatly written vignettes with both Nemu & Nanao in succession. Both dealing with their complicated relationship with their father-figures amidst a life-or-death fight while being pretty contrasting in terms of characterization, tone, and themes. That's a display that's sadly rare in Shounen.

Orihime's character makes a lot of sense given her history and age. She does grow over time and gain some independence in a logical way. Personally I love Rangiku and Nanao. @TheGuzeinbuick So I can't speak for everyone but I am also on the bustier side so it doesn't bother me. Rangiku owning her body also has a darker side to it. Depending on how far you want to say the scenario went when Aizens henchmen took the soul king fragment from her, lighter version or darker version, her body was violated. People who feel they lost control of their body in traumatic ways usually try to take ownership of their body in one way or another to compensate. It's probably another reason why she tends to drink so heavily when the opportunity arrives aside from being heart broken by Gin.

    I feel like the biggest reasons why Orihime is hated despite her incredible character are;
A: the removal of many of her scenes and even part of her backstory in the anime, as well as how the anime staff tried to make her more annoying at times (Kurosaki-kun~) to slot in Rukia as the love interest. This leaves a layer of her character behind in the manga.
and B: The fact that Kubo doesn't often write out what someone's emotions are or go out of his way to point out the depth of his characters. He leaves subtext or visuals behind to do that for him and in the battle Shonen scene a lot of readers/watchers are used to or expecting to be given all the facts at a fairly surface level. So when that information isn't eagerly handed out then it might as well not be there for many, or they won't know to look for it.

Here's my 2 cents, when intaracting with anyone, fictional characters included, incite into their background usually depicts where their behaviors stem from which is something not often observed in real life by close friends to acquaintances, then when it comes to fictional character, people often follow the momentum of what's going on in the scenario and barely pay attention to the characterization of the participating characters in the ongoing scene hence we have poeple jumping to conclusions based on their personal perspectives... And that ladies and gentlemen is a common social survival traits that often overlaps into fiction meant to inspire you to be better than your situation or simply entertain and/or sometimes educate/inform you!
Most characters in fiction are written well and personal perspective usually inspires your judgement on where it's good or not... The more social incite you have, the more you'll appreciate other's experiences and development same applies with limited incite stemming from limiting your own social exposure... Take in more than just your personal personal perspective and you'll enjoy a bigger, more beautiful and experience rich world, fictional or otherwise!

Happy New year. Thanks for this.
Very indulgent, but I'd love to hear your take on _Miranda Lotto_ (the woman who lost the lottery of life), as a direct counterpart to _Orihime._
They have very comparable powers, with one very significant and tragic difference, that does alter how they effect the plots.
TLDR: most people problem with _Rejection_ comes from not understanding that its limits come from the whole power-system, not from the ability itself, so it make perfect sense that Orihime would struggle to heal wounds caused by someone who's not yet defeated, or fail to erase anyone/thing that outweighs her energy.
It is still true though that there are times where the only reason to not make use of Orihime is plot convenience, or character agency.
_Revo-Dial_ has a phenomenal introduction, showcasing it's amazing potency and ability to completely change the course of battles, but also showing the inherent tragedy, that its cost and restriction is it's inherent function.
There can never be a significant reason not use _Revo-Dial,_ it will never devalue any stakes, but that it itself is a burden on Miranda, especially as she's the only exorcist that has zero combat power.
That the 1st time we are confronted with the true cost, we also realise that we're watching one of the best possible outcomes of using it.

I feel like people often tend to hate the healer damsels in distress.
They are often non-combatant and display a jarring amount of feminine traits for a Shonen manga.
People often say that female characters never do anything but look pretty...in a manga written for the entertainment of young boys.
But often times, the issue is more that the Main Character and the Main Rival power scale MUCH harder than anyone else in the show.

For my own hobby writing, i tend to take a mixture of Final Fantasy logic and Dungeons & Dragons logic.
I take roughly 7 characters and split their importance equally, with the main character being a minor McGuffin. It's not that the MC power scales harder than the other 6 characters, there is just something unique about them that makes them "the key" to solving the plot.
Each of the 7 characters has their own specialties and moments to shine and i avoid using any of these 7 characters for the Warf Effect.
I know that this comment isn't exactly about making strong female characters, but i feel like Shonen anime like Bleach and Naruto have a weakness that people pick up on and leads them to hate the members of the Hero's party that should otherwise be likable, including the female characters.

Tatsuki or Rukia would probably have to be there to coach/force them to consummate their relationship just to end up with Kazui with how Ichigo and Orihime act. plus it always bugged me the way Orihime looked at Masked ichigo with fear, and Ulquiorra with pity and understanding... But they are the ones who actually see the women in the shows as useless and only healers, then they try to say he's bad at writing women because in 2004 he said he couldn't write female Characters, which is braindead because that was over 20 years ago, and If you compare the writing of Sakura in og and Shippuden you can see there's a very very clear difference.
But then again, most of the hate Naruto gets is from braindead people who need everything spoonfed to them and they need stuff like Dragonball and one piece, they like there anime simple, no depth, and spoonfed to them.
It due to people being braindead and wanting simple stuff, that it leads to people who have watched Naruto in years or never watched Naruto at all. To just hate on the show and say this and that is retcon and plot holes(despite the fact Naruto only has 5 plot holes and 2 retcon's) which is still impressive since Naruto has 700 chapters.

Nel yelled at her to cheer for Ichigo because she was somehow too scared to?
Sure, she's kind hearted and adorable. She has some good moments with Ichigo. She's not a bad character like Sakura.

Most female characters in western media have always been badly written but they became popular because of their looks. When ever I watch a video about how western media is makings female characters ugly they always say "she isn't interesting if she isn't beautiful". To me if all she has going for her is her appearance, she's a garbage character. Im not saying it's okay to make female characters ugly. Im an artist and I make both male and female characters attractive. But I think when writing a character you shouldn't care about their looks unless it directly ties to their story. Like being a lizard person or something.

Hate the title, but I like the vibe. I think the main reason folks believe anime may write better characters is mainly that anime is mostly made by creators from a homogeneous society. In the Western world you have a belief system that is born of the Abrahamic faith which has a monopoly of how the genders should act, _according to them._ That and it does kind of suck when all the female characters are rarely the badass ones. I kind of fell off of anime from how boring the female characters were, it just annoyed me. Now I'm not a hater of anime, just the opposite, but as I get older more distance seems to occur.
Plus the male characters generally get to do all the cool stuff, it's the same in American comics. Superman & Batman come up with all the plans and the ladies just do something cool every once in a while. I don't know what the balance is, but... as the world goes forward creators are getting better at making more dynamic female characters. _Sometimes_ they overdo it, but that's to be expected because there's so much there you can mess up on. Lastly, when I finally get into an anime, the female characters tend to drop off, like the male characters become so powerful you wonder why the women are even there sometimes.
I think *power* is a thing and sometimes what the character can actually do helps. It does bother me that creators feel the need to flaw their women up, otherwise folks won't _believe_ they make sense. Anyways, good video! I totally clicked on this expecting something else entirely, glad I was wrong.

ppl devalue traditionally feminine characters like orihime bc they aren't like their male counterparts. The males are usually the main ones who fight, and while there are female characters who fight, having all of them fight would be a narrow minded decisions. Part of Orihimes arc is about her place among the chaos of battles that happen throughout the seires. Thanks to others and a lot of self-reflection, she is able to realize her purpose. She isn't a fighter. She is a defender and healer. The shield to ichigos sword.
Orihime, by the end of the series, is not only OP af going up against Yuwach but also is still being true to who she is. She gets unnecessary hate for a character that actually meets all the requirements for the arbitrary reasons shounentards need to enjoy female characters. ESPECIALLY the fact that she is traditionally feminine, which is sorely lacking these days, at least in american media.

Orihime was at her best in the SS arc. She became annoying the moment 90% of her character became centered on Ichigo.

this has nothing to do with bleach characters, BUT
erza from fairy tail is definitely a feminine character. as a matter of fact that was a whole thing. she is quite feminine. she's just also a warrior.

They're hot. Its not that hard to figure out. Female characters live and die by their looks. There is a BIG reason why Orihime and Rangiku are sl popular, bro.
Less than perfect look women are always an antagonist or an outright villain to the main hot female lead.
There are far better ones than Bleach. Like with Ghost in the Shell or Full Metal Alchemist or Black Lagoon.
As for my favorite ones, Integra from Hellsing and Balaika from Black Lagoon are top tier.

@ShonenOuji she is great character with no tropy fan service and had a respectful relation with the MC Ichigo and having multiple character arcs and development. She is my favorite character in Bleach.

@PrashasyaGautam she did nothing in the entirety of OG bleach ,she was good in TYBW P1 but that it , a small contribution to the story.

@aissaaissa3080 Pretty much. Rukia has her moments and is still great I have to admit that she was underutilised most of the time.

Orihime gets hate because she wasn't very well-written in the Hueco Mundo arc. Plus the female member of the party being the healer is a tired cliche. Matsumoto also had a few too many fanservice moments disguised as lame "jokes." Besides that though, I'd say Kubo knocked the female characters out of the park. There is the fact that 90% of them are given megatitties, but what do you want, it's anime.

Don't make excuses for the writer when they can't think of anything besides giving her large cupcakes to make them likable.

@@truthspreader1996 It is true that if Orihime didn't have huge "cupcakes" she'd probably be just as hated as Sakura.
The bigger problem imo is that anime fans spend their time "hating" a fictional character instead of having a problem with the writer. This is a little offtopic but it always rubbed me the wrong way how "Kurenai tried to use genjutsu on Itachi" thing became a meme, but instead of criticising Kishimoto for his inconsistency instead the fanbase decided to put the "blame" on Kurenai... a ficitonal character... that doesn't exist.
