- Gibside parkrun didn't return after the global parkrun covid pause and this community was left without a parkrun. However this incredible community rallied together to find an alternative venue for a local parkrun and Chopwell parkrun was born only 3.8km from the previous parkrun location.
Chopwell Wood parkrun is a gorgeous one lap, undulating, trail run in Chopwell Woodland Park - Forestry England. The course design is really clever and we loved the out-and-back section which was great for cheering on other runners.
We headed here as I was Wilson Index hunting (If you're not familiar with the parkrun challenges then I explain some of them in the following video: • parkrun challenges - p... . I only needed a 68 and a 99 to get my WI above 100 so I was delighted to make it to an event 99, especially with so many cancellations around! Although, we never did find a 99 ice cream!
The café was great but please do remember cash to avoid disappointment! Huge thanks to the wonderful team at Chopwell Wood parkrun for a wonderful morning. I highly recommend a visit to Gibside if you are visiting Chopwell Wood parkrun!

I think I am now going to call it the Tarpaulin of Trust (or ToT) 🤣 What a lovely looking course
It was a gorgeous parkrun 😃
I was reading this lovely book yesterday and it was suggesting that when we run outdoors there is a significant gain in not just our mental health but also strangely our general performance! And one test they did is they had runners try to notice little details in the natural world as they ran through it - it had a profound effect! Anyway it made me think of you and your videos - you’re always so positive and excited about the little things, it’s wonderful!
Thinking of you and Poppy ☺️
Awww thank you, I often think I get too excited about the smallest things! 🙈 But maybe that's what has gotten me through all of the awful things that have happened... Good mental health from all the time outside noticing the small things 😃🥰
Thanks for another great video! Hoping to do Chopwell Wood in the next couple of months - looks lovely! So pleased that I did Gibside before it closed - a tough but beautiful parkrun 😊 Nice that you were able to visit there before heading back. X
I couldn't not when I realised just how close it was! Like an 8 minute drive! Lucky you doing Gibside... I always feel sad when a parkrun stops and I haven't run there. It's such a missed opportunity. I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time at Chopwell Wood parkrun when you go 😃
Aww that looks like a lovely parkrun - forrest and trains and fresh air. Thanks for sharing.
It was great and one we might not have discovered without Wilson Index chasing! 🙃
NicolaForwood your videos are so brilliant! They make me want to get out of bed when I feel I can not move 😢
You're so lovely, let's run together soon!!! ❤️
Great video as always Nicola. I love Chopwell Wood but I did it during the summer and my lasting memory was that there were sooooo many flies! Must have swallowed about six of the buggers and spent the rest of the run swatting them out of the way!
Oh no! That's gross 🤢 as a vegetarian I absolutely hate it when I swallow flies 🤢 There's definitely better and worse times to visit different venues 🙃
@@NicolaRuns That single parkrun taught me how to run with my mouth closed! 😄
@@andybrook9518 that's actually hilarious 🤣🤣🤣
Another cool running adventure. Glad you lucked out on the weather. I have to say that the US should do the stick it / flick it routine. I run on a bike trail nearly every day and it is lined with bags of poo. Makes absolutely no sense. A bag of poo can sit there for a week or more and it just gets unsightly. Got another half marathon in, in the southern part of Utah, so it was a lot warmer there and I ran well. Soon I'll have a full race schedule as it warms up here. I love seeing your adventures and giving me a tour of the UK.
Yeah it's absolute madness isn't it?! I just can't understand people that bag it up and leave it there?! Just WHY????? 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ Well done on your half 💪👏 that's ace 😃
Great dedication , lovely to see you both smiling , rooting for you as always 😉
Thank you my lovely 🤗
Superb video Nicola. Thank you for participating at our Chopwell Wood parkrun. The woodland is beautiful and I'm so pleased you took the time to highlight it. You would have loved the Gibside parkrun course. Look forward to seeing you again😁
Thank you so much, we loved visiting. What a beautiful place to run! 😍
What a lovely location - and so close to the city too. Must visit soon!
I love all the Forestry England parkruns 😍
It would be great to welcome you to Chopwell Wood Parkrun, I am there most weeks and we try and give a warm welcome to visitors. 😃
fab video again as ever
Thanks Michael ☺️
Great video Nicola, looks a lovely course. Loved the comedy edit of saying the paths were impacted, cutting to wet, slippy mud. That cheesecake looked amazing too
I didn't realise until I looked back at the video the contrast in paths 🤣 TBF it wasn't that muddy really but I thought it was funny how it changed as soon as I was super impressed with the paths 😂
I am at Chopwell Wood Parkrun most weeks but it was a shame your visit was one of the weeks I was away. It would have been nice to see you and say hello, maybe next time.
Oh no! We loved it. Like you say... Maybe next time 😊
What a beautiful parkrun in the forest and a great visit to a national trust and congrats on nearly completing wilson index you are amazing and I hope you had a good new year and your video are the best
Thanks so much Bertie 😊 Just 68 to go 🎉

@@bertiepowell3027 lol... Who is paying? 🤣
Ah, I recall the inaugural at Gibside, almost 10 years ago, as there was a lovely photo taken of everyone on the steps of the chapel. Been saving this one and Hamsterley for when the weather is bad, when I visit family in the North East.
Oh wow, I wish I'd have visited Gibside, it's only when you say something like that and I realise I had YEARS to visit but didn't get around to it?! It must have been awesome! Although I love Forestry England events so Hamsterley and Chopwell are both brilliant! 😍
It was so lovely to meet you and Poppy at Chopwell, wife was so jealous when i told her I had great pleasure to meet and and have a chat with you. Gibside was my first parkrun, it was fab but Chopwell is great and the team are so welcoming. As always another fab parkrun video.😁
Thanks, you too Marc 😃 We had such a lovely day 😊
going under the bridge, with people running over the top, at 9 mins, is so cool.
Now that you have the van are you considering doing more London venues (presumably you've done Bushy)?
I loved that bit, it reminded me a bit of Huddersfield parkrun where you go under and over the bridge at the same time 😃 I don't think I'll bring the van to London much, I'm more about getting out in nature with it ☺️ Although we'll definitely be down for the 20th anniversary 😃😃😃
Dog poo bags do my head in.
As someone who has a dog as my best friend,I cannot understand what type of people put poo in bags and then just leave them.Even worse, hang them in trees!!!!
WHY.
On pos side,I completed my first trail marathon today( my 2nd in total)🎉.I didn't finish last either.
Thanks again for the parkrun video, looks lovely woodland run.
I'm the same! It drives me crazy?! The stick and flick is sooooooo much better! No plastic! Moaning aside then sounds like HUGE congratulations are in order! That's awesome! Well done 😃
A couple of years ago I was just starting a run a watched someone placing poo bag in tree, so I confronted them taking a photo of them and the bag. They were adamant they were going to get it on their way back. At which point I reminded them the local council fine stood at £1000... Oddly they decided to carry it.
@@BillyBobJoeSnr well done 😊😃
@@NicolaRuns I'm a great advocate of the stick-n-flick. Nature will deal with it in a few days in a bag it's going to stay there for weeks and ultimately the same process starts next to the path/bin/tree.
@@BillyBobJoeSnr couldn't agree more!
Was lovely to meet you and appear in the video.
You too 😃
Nicola have you considered or been asked to be a parkrun ambassador ?
I'm not sure what that would look like. They don't really have official ambassadors as such... I just share the parkrun love and hope that others want to come and join this awesome running movement 😃
