I've had the same dream since I was younger as well. A 2 stroke dirt bike on the street. The only problem I see is refueling when you are away from home & all the tickets i would get for ripping like I was off road, so hard not to crack it open every chance I would get.
Troy F i just carry around some oil and a kitchen meter (?) I think its called and just count the amount of oil ypu need to add. There are apps online for the counting like this one www.scooterhelp.com/genmaintain/mix.calc.html
In finland we have to live with driving 50ccs with a traffic speed limited to 28mph and if your bike is able to go over 40mph you will get your license taken away + a hefty fine. So have fun while you can :)
Nice! You can also get a Beta 300rr (2 stroke), comes with everything you need to get it street legal (headlight/taillight, wired for turn signals and has a horn on the bike)and if your state is strict, just get it titled in south dakota and then transfer it to your state. The Beta 300rr has an oil injection system so no messing with oil and fuel mixing which is more beneficial for street.
Yeah, but a dirt bike can't keep up with a police car...off the line sure. Also, you can't outrun radios and since the cops record everything on camera all the would have to do is get a description of the bike and look into who owns that type of dirt bike. Then guess what...they impound your bike and have to go to court in order to try and not get jail time for reckless driving, operation a illegal vehicle, fleeing the scene, potential lawsuit for endangering the public, and resisting arrest, etc... but you can do what you want. Lol
Yes it is a young boys dream come true. I live a block from our city cop shop and run my Beta 300RR Race edition past them regularly. Having a 2 stroke plated is awesome and definitely had it's benefits. Especially sharing that 2 stroke smoke with the local traffic..lol 🤘😬🤘
One of the things that was nice about the beta is that it comes all wired and ready. All you have to do is plug in some turn signals and a flasher to the existing harness. Controls and everything are there already 🖒
I did the street-legal conversion to a YZ450F '05, in Utah. My bike was a former AMA supercross race bike with no vin number on frame, factory race frame with no wet-sump oil in frame! It ended up being impounded by DMV after a inspection of vehicles at my shop, they thought it was shady despite what i told them. After providing my proof, I got my bike back, and the Utah DMV riveted a special custom vin plate on my frame to associate with its new title status, like its a custom-built motorcycle now. It was after I got the bike back I finished the full conversion to street legal status, used the same Tusk wiring harness. Safety inspection and its golden, great right. I gave the bike to a friend of mine in Cali! Now he has the only street-legal-registerable YZ450 race bike (supermoto) in California. I even own an '84 Honda XR500R framed bike and Utah DMV just told me they can't get me ownership of a lost title because the bike was never issued a title when new ('84 dirt bike)! BUT, if I convert bike and get safety inspection passed and bring it in.. I can get street-legal registration and that will actually be my proof of ownership also, with bike not having a title.
Taj Jacobs Interesting story about how you got your dirt bikes plated! I also have a 1984 Honda XR 500R I bought new from the dealership when I was 17. I can't confirm or deny any alterations to the original MSO but I got a plate when I presented it to DMV here in NJ. I still have the bike and did a complete remod of it last year after sitting in my parents garage for thirty years! It still had the original tires on it. Now it looks like a modern dual sport. 😉
Great job, man! Congrats on having your MX bike licensed! My guess is that my state (California) has additional requirements that make this conversion illegal, but it's worth investigating. Love your kit and installation ideas! I know what you mean about our love for 2-stroke bikes! I grew up in the 70s around CZ, Maico, Husqvarna, Ossa, Bultaco, Sach/DKW/Penton, Hodaka, AJS, Rickman Matisse, etc., and the closest street legal bike to a real MX bike back then was the Honda MT series, which was the street legal versions of Honda's Elsinore line (an absolutely kick-ass line of bikes!). Anyway, yeah man, that's awesome that you now have a great street legal REAL MX bike! Congrats again!
If you look around there are a couple of CA legal 2 strokes. Once upon a time ago they used to not look for the EPA sticker and issued out license plates for them and basically they became grandfathered in. After discovering their "fault" or whatever they've overlooked, now if your EPA sticker doesn't say "For on highway use" or it says "For off-road use only" you will not be issued a license plate. Can't wait to move outta CA!
Honda always ride red here, my dad has a 74 Elsinore Enduro street legalized. But dog next to 74 race. Then my pops introduced me to a clean all original Can-am mx250!!! The thing ripps faster down the street then my 2000 cr250r. Perhaps feels faster because no suspension so feel everything & low? Hit a 60ft+ table over triple with heel clicker, sketchy lol

i live in santa cruz cali and the traffic is absolute bonkers out here, I'm taking a moto safety course soon and have a 250 lined up for purchase. i can't wait to zip around town down to the beach, up to the mtns on it!
This is pretty much the dream of any MXer! I'm doing it! can you imagine a KX500 enduro on the street?!!! already got a line on the legal part, so this is gonna get done.
Sicacuss racing in michigan has a kit with head n tail light battery powered. Comes with head light n tail light n rear fender drop thst bolts on. Plus brake light bango bolts to run brake light. And a horn. I use this on my 07 kx250 that has no available lighting kits.
Sweet bike. I wish I could do this in Cali. I did update my ca green sticker 2002 yz250. Made it like a 2018. New swingarm, forks, 270 cylinder, 18" rear. Etc. Etc. I had to get the '17 fe350 for my street needs.
I have the 2013 yz250 2 stroke. I'd love to make mine street legal. How much is the kit. I'm in Arlington Washington. I really enjoyed your presentation on this subject.
Could this kit be used if you run a 12v battery and NO stator change? I realize the lights will only run as long as the battery is charged enough, I'm thinking of emergency only light and occasional blinker use. All running off of a small battery like you got. I could recharge it at home as needed with a battery tender. Think it would work okay for short periods of time? Most of my riding will be in the day time. I'm having trouble finding a larger stator for my KX250F.
Although 2 strokes are my go to Dirt Bike, Wouldn't a 4 stroke be more suitable? I mean 2Sk's function better at high rpm's, and sitting in traffic idling, isn't the best for the engine. Also how do you deal with the suggested hour limit on the engine. Do you rebuild the top end constantly and bottom end periodically?
At low speeds and stopped 2strokes generally run cooler than 4strokes which struggle to stay cool stopped and low speeds. 2strokes idle slower and have less mass to radiate heat through. None of this matters when most modern offroad bikes are water cooled. Why wouldnt you have a water cooled bike over aircooled anyway?
@@mkgizler5080 I got a tusk lighting kit with an rc battery so I did not hook it up to the stator plate! It last about 6 to 8 hours! They fit every bike!
I'm deciding between the yz250x or the ktm250xc Also all you really need is a wiring harness that connects to an independent 12 volt battery To run your rear taillight and blinkers if you want those. I have another Independent 12 volt battery that runs to an LED light bar. Extremely simple and rechargeable so no stator swaps. The battery that runs to my led bar is about the size of the one you have and the other one is extremely tiny about 1/4 of the size and lasts just as long. I like to keep it simple and non permanent. That way I can swap it between any bike I own.
ENDURO SK ok let me be specific. The trails around me are sandy and resemble Mx tracks in terms of layout. Berms, winding and enough space and length for a side by side to rip with the exception of the sudden 90 degree plus turns the dirtbikes slam into and roost. I watch BeRad and he makes the yz250x seem like an Mx bike. It's between Yz 250x and yz250 in Yamaha and KTM 250xcw, 250 xc and 250 Sx. Idk how the xcw compares to the yz250x in terms of transmission ratio. I'd like to be able to ride the bike I get at the track too. The yz250x looks like it's track able, the Mx bikes can probably do both just fine and idk much about the xc.
Belicose777 the 250xc is a great bike. Makes lots of low down tourque and supposedly makes more power in general is said to have better suspension and it has 6 gears
I've been having dirtbike dreams my whole life. Some of the best dreams I've ever had. Then I wake up and I realize it just a darn dream and I'm gonna be late for work again
PS. I do love the 2 stroke trail bikes /MX ers I had a Suzuki RMX250 with 6 gears and that bigger fly wheel is just absolute gold! Honestly if you're street/track riding see if you can source a Yamaha WR250R fly wheel for your bike! You can stand on the pegs and just putt past your mates up steep hills while they are nearly getting bucked off in power band. I just love that extra 6th gear and man was it a tall 6th gear 140km/r on 2000s MX bike is fairly crazy...11:1 compression and port and polish bore n sleeved shotpeaned and balanced assembly! I miss that bike so much

Did the headlight wire directly into the tusk enduro kit or did you have to cut and splice wires ..... ?? Was gonna do a 450fx and need a headlight. Think I can run off the OEM battery on the 450, what do you think? Thanks a bunch! Nice work
Found you just browsing bike vids Chad, hope you're well my man! Say hi to the other guys "over there" if you see this. Sending y'all love from down under. - Young Don ;)
Good job Bro. I have a 2012 Kawasaki KX250FI. The kit you installed, do you know if all the parts fits on my bike? Or is the kit universial for any dirt bike?
Do you know who you worked with at Ricky's? Was it something you had to do special? a rewind or new? They are indicating they don't make anything for a 250 X. Just curious how you made progress with them on it.
Hey man great vid. I'm about to do the same to my yz250. Out of curiosity which bike did you select for the tusk kit? It shows it for the 250f and 450f and not the yz250
I ride a 1996 Yamaha wr250 it has a factory lighting coil and I’ve been putting together a street legal kit for it too here in AZ you can street legal just about anything, there’s a cr500, cr450, yz125, and xr400’s all over town haha
That's got to be a BLAST! I've wanted to do a Supermoto smoker! I've done 2 WRs, they are fun enough! I've got a YZ250 and CR250R in the barn....................................
Wow this is going to be my next project , I just bought a WR250R last year because I didn’t have the money to get the YZ250 + a kit like you got so I now I have regrets!!! I should have saved my money , damn you Bike is sweet and it has so much upside potential!!!
Before CR500 production ended in 2003 (they stopped importing them to the US after '01) they were sold and street legal- in Australia. Had full lights, mirrors, etc.
Did you connect the headlight to the battery? It seems like a small battery considering the BD Squadron Sport is rated for 20W 1.4A which is 14.2V. I'm just wonder since I am basically going with the same setup for a leftover 2017 Yz250f I just bought.
Did my YZ 125 last year bit different over here only needed road legal motocross tyres, and a horn and plate . No lights , no brake light even. Passed the mot with flying colours.
Nicely done, I like that "other" states do not require the blinkers or even an inspection. Up to the end user to install all equipment and know the law. My personal bike is a 2004 YZ250WR/DS, I am building a 2003 YZ325X/DS kit (to be installed), and have 2 2003's ready to assemble and DS (they will be for sale). Damn right they are fun to rip down the tarmac. Set of street wheels is in order. Hahaha
The YZ 250 2 stoke would be the ultimate street fantasy. The fact that it's impractical is the point. Get the gearing right, and put on some supermoto wheels,, and have fun!!! I only wish I could do this in California.
Very interested in doing this conversion. Does the stator provide enough juice to keep the battery charged? At least by shutting the headlight off when on the trail? Any problems to look for so far? Any help would be great.
Why not use that black Sika-flex stuff that they use for autobody-windscreen re-attachment? Rough up underneath the mud guard with 180 grit sand paper and same on the surface where the tail number plate housing touches on the rear guard.... I'd probably buzz it with a drummer Dremel to speed things up? If you want to be super crazy because you don't trust glue you could always Araldite a couple of bolts as well and then recess the tail light hosting obviously.... But I'm telling ya it won't be necessary. You won't be able to take that tail piece off unless you take the mudguard off. It will look super nice too! Use G claps or Gaf tape to hold it in place whilst it sets. It takes a long time to cure but damn it is on for good!
Kool and thanks. This really helped my make up my mind. I live in WA so you answered many questions. Now to decide 125 or 250. Yamaha, Honda or Kawasaki? Suzuki is not even a thought. Peace from Hoods Canal.
Please tell me where you got your kit from??? How do knobbies pass DOT? Also I realize it's stock exhaust so it's probably fairly quiet but I still dont see it passing a decibel test being a 2 stroke.
I thought I was cutting it close with xcw's 120 watt stator lol, and I thought you had have at the very least dot knobbies? You are in Washington state?
Where do you Americans get your money from nice garages nice cars brand new bikes here in England we got a wooden shed thats if your lucky plus a spanner and a screwdriver
Have you burned out the stator yet? I've been hearing that it overheats due to the small space behind the cover. Have you had a chance to open it up and look at it to see if there is any discoloration on the copper windings? Im super curious if you've had any troubles???
I’d like to do something similar with a yz250 motor but am curious how it would handle heat wise, I would of course play with gearing but I still having a feeling I would be ringing it’s neck for a lot of the time. Any input?

there were a few YZ's motoxer 2 smokes compliance over here in Australia , my mate had a street legal yz 125
i live in santa cruz cali and the traffic is absolute bonkers out here, I'm taking a moto safety course soon and have a 250 lined up for purchase. i can't wait to zip around town down to the beach, up to the mtns on it!
This is pretty much the dream of any MXer! I'm doing it! can you imagine a KX500 enduro on the street?!!! already got a line on the legal part, so this is gonna get done.
Nice! I just bought a new 2021 KX450 last Saturday. Do I have to change the stock tires before having the dot inspection?
You might have been about to use a kit from an it250 / dt200r .. powerdynamo makes an adjustable innert rotor kit for those
Greetings from England !!
That bike makes my heart beat fast !
respect and thanks
Great video, I have the same dream. What was the total cost of the conversion? Thank you!
We have made many CA bikes street legal using various methods! Check us out at dirtlegal.com
I got a husqvarna WR300 2 stroke. I plated that with no prob. the betas and ktms you can as well too
I have the 2013 yz250 2 stroke.
I made my 2019 yz250x legal in colorado! I used a lithium rc car battery for all my lighting!
@jeff deathrage it lasts me about 6 to 8 hours. It's from tusk! Easy install!
@jeff deathrage the tusk lighting kit is super easy to install and it is an rc battery! Good luck and live on the edge bro!!
Snow Rider which kit did you order? Risk only lists for 250/450f. Mine is an 07 yz250
@@mkgizler5080 I got a tusk lighting kit with an rc battery so I did not hook it up to the stator plate! It last about 6 to 8 hours! They fit every bike!
I'm deciding between the yz250x or the ktm250xc
Also all you really need is a wiring harness that connects to an independent 12 volt battery
To run your rear taillight and blinkers if you want those.
This is great feedback! Thank you for posting!
Definitely get a 250xc. Ktm is actually updating there 2 strokes
ENDURO SK more power than the sx? I'm assuming heavier flywheel and more tame powerband right ?
Awesome man! Glad it worked out for you so well! You seem super stoked! Cheers!
I've been having dirtbike dreams my whole life. Some of the best dreams I've ever had. Then I wake up and I realize it just a darn dream and I'm gonna be late for work again
Am doing the same thing to my dirt bike I'm in the Bronx.. And I got a dualtron thunder scooter and a spider dualtron scooter..
Awesome video! Where I live you wouldn’t get very far without a title.
I have a street leagal KTM EXC 125, and oh man their fun in the town
PS. I do love the 2 stroke trail bikes /MX ers
I had a Suzuki RMX250 with 6 gears and that bigger fly wheel is just absolute gold!
I miss that bike so much
couldn't help looking at the t3's in the back do you collect them? bit of a Volkswagen fan myself I love my t4 and I might be going to see another one tomorrow. would love to see some videos of them.
Oisin's Shop I have a whole Channel about living in my T3 van. Check out “Living The Van Life” here on TH-cam. Also we have several other videos about these vans here on our “Adventures Unknown” channel. Check ‘em out! Thanks for watching.
Sweet You're Back! I love those bikes too.
Whats the brand of your mirrors and tail light? Its pretty cool.
That thing is so clean. Awesome build!
I got my 1997 WR 250 2stroke licensed here in Arizona. People give you the craziest looks when you fly by them on a 2 stroke
Would love know more I live in Perth western Australia what happens to Speedo ?
Could you post the part numbers for the stator and the stator and rectifier? I can’t find it at ricks. I have a 2019 yz250
1975 Suzuki TS400 here. Old school drool.
Before CR500 production ended in 2003 (they stopped importing them to the US after '01) they were sold and street legal- in Australia. Had full lights, mirrors, etc.
I live here in wa, and I thought we needed a speedometer? I want to do a cr or kx 500.
I also live in Wa. Do bikes not get emission tested. So 2 strokes can become street legal?
christian myhre
Only in like Seattle area. Up here in oak harbor they don't.
hey it's the vanagon van life dude
Hey! Thats ME! Living The Van Life!
i literally thought the same thing
Now yall go race those converted yamahas. If he gets his gearing right he just might kick that but cruza!
Love the hoodie. Rode to Alvord Desert with Bill Motherf$kin Woods last June.
Did you connect the headlight to the battery? It seems like a small battery considering the BD Squadron Sport is rated for 20W 1.4A which is 14.2V. I'm just wonder since I am basically going with the same setup for a leftover 2017 Yz250f I just bought.
This is sick! Aren’t the tires not legal for street use?
Hahaha
Hell yeah! We got street tired on both bikes and they are absolute must.
Nice video broth..! You help on my decision about rear tail light..! 😀👍
Funny enough. I just bought a really done up 1998 WR250 T2. Planning to do the same but go for motard wheels.
That's a tasty job.. Don ye jus love the smell of a two stroke.. Greetings from 🇮🇪.. Tanx for the info
Supposedly in South Dakota, you don't even have to live there to register a vehicle. Lax regulations too.
Do you need a speedometer
Would love to see a video with multi-function gauge massaged into the bar padding - would look awesome imo
Hello guys ,
I have a question
Witch 125 or 150 shot I pick for a transformation in a street LEGAL Bike?
150 cause ktms 150 for 2020 will be fuel injected. Also better top speed
Please tell me where you got your kit from??? Im 39 now,, ive had plenty of bikes growing up,, but i bought my brand new 2007 yz 250 2stroke in November on 2008,, as i get older an live in country,,, friends dont ride as much anymore,, riding is therapy for me... as i get older an i still would rather ride dirt/trials an hit jumps,,, i just feel ill get more time on my bike with it being switched over to a supermoto,,, it being dirt an race ready still as of now... my bike life family dont ride as much anymore as we get older... i bought this 2007 yz 250 2stroke in November of 2008,, an with gas an maintenance an rebuilding an all,,, since 2008 i can say i have about 35k invested in this bike,, i have kids an a 18 year old son that raced with me an our bike life family... so as im 39 years old now,, we dont ride as much,, so id love to find a supermoto conversion kit for my 2007 yz250 2 stroke?????
That’s pretty dope.. do you feel a weight difference?
same switch as you have. 26 bucks . the led tape was 12 bucks a pair
I have the same bike I would love to do that to mine I just got it 3 weeks ago I live in the state of New Jersey I'm going to try to find out what I need to do to do the same thing
What do ypu think about the old school Yamaha colors.
35 watts is not enough. you do need a dot knobby
Where do you Americans get your money from nice garages nice cars brand new bikes here in England we got a wooden shed thats if your lucky plus a spanner and a screwdriver
Haha
Welcome to socialism, were trying like hell to avoid that here in the USA but see wooden sheds in our future.
You must add some sunshine. It helps. Become a refugee and get to the States
Dude could that kit work on a YZ250 2 stroke year 2000
Makes me want to move to Washington!
Any input?
I did a IT490 2 smoke like this back in the day....It really wasn't a good Idea. Super sketchy on the road. It was either on or off.
Love your mentality dude. Sick bike !!
sorry if i missed it in the video but did you order a kit for a yz250fx off rockymountain? and which stator exactly didnt see one for a 250x
