I have a Tanaka trimmer that is almost 40 years old and has original lines and bulb. I don't know what magic they used. The pervious owner took good care of it and so have I and it is completely original. I feel very lucky to have such a nice little unit that is so well made.
We were a Tanaka dealer from the Early 80's until corporate mergers diluted the line. The original stuff would last forever and is pretty common to find still running after 30 years.
No offense must not have much use or you use pre-mix ethanol free fuel cause regular pump fuel with ethanol will mess lines up after a few years inevitably
Same trimmer I used for a few years until I stopped cutting my own grass; was a great machine - easy to start and ran great. Sold it earlier this year, and have a battery one in case I need to use it. Just fixed 2 of these machines in the past week, too. Husqvarna did a great job making it easy to access everything for repairs and maintenance. Even having to do cylinder gaskets and oil seals are a piece of cake on this machine!
Never used a Husky trimmer but their saws did fine. I used what you do/did for years because they were free and did the job. We were the only ones that saw them or if someone else did they were polite and laughed after they got home. Now we have the battery jobs and all is still fine on the home front. Almost all the 2-cycle stuff has a good home and everybody is happy. Always a tradeoff somewhere. Thanks, good fix and Blessings
I wish I would have discovered your channel before I bought my battery operated weed whacker and blower. Typically I would get like 3/4 years of life on my 2 stroke equipment. Tried cleaning the carburetor, but it would barely run and that diaphragm was probably it. It seemed fine. Figured if life expectancy was about 3/4 years, might be cheaper to buy batteries than a whole new machine. I always have had great luck fixing 4 cycle lawn equipment, but never with 2 stroke. Not going to lie: I hate battery. Forget to charge? Guess I am not weed whacking that day... My Ryobi takes hours to charge. Not a fast charger, which, fast charging isn't the best for batteries either.
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE The shame was the price I paid. But if I ever find a gas powered one on the side of the road I would happily get it. The scrappers are faster than I am sadly.
I have probably the same 18cc featherlite. Bought it new in 98. Been a great light weight trimmer. I live on farm so it gets lots of running. On its forth primer bulb but still has original diafram. I have used a cane for the last 15 year's. If it wasn't for it's light weight I would not be able to trim anymore. I can use it comfortable with one hand. I have 4 others I have picked up on marketplace for parts as parts are getting hard to find.
Glad I found this YT channel. Have the very same Husqvarna model (6 years old) and it finally got to the point where it didn't want to idle or run at full throttle. Ordered a new carburetor with new lines, plug and filter to attempt a repair. Pulled the carb and then the lines - there was no fuel filter at all, and the lines were cracked where they attached to the carb. On about the tenth pull it wanted to fire up but wouldn't idle and blew smoke. Kept on adjusting the idle screw and finally it worked. Now I have a full throttle like I haven't seen in quite some time. Whoo Hoo! Thanks
I bought a used Echo 225 for my son and refurbished it. It runs great. I appreciate your excellent videos, camara work, explanations and honest opinions.
Reminds me of the "Honda" trimmers from yrs ago. When I worked at NT&E, people would buy the Honda trimmer and then bring it back, saying it doesn't work right. The Honda was 4 cycle and ran SLOWER than the 2 cycle brands. They weren't lacking in power or anything. They just didn't sound right !!!!!!!!! Good video !
I still have a echo trimmer engine in garage. Something in shaft took a dump and parts were not available anymore. That's my problem with echo no parts available after a few years. That trimmer I bought in mid 70's and by mid 80's no part's available.
I’ll say I got straight gassed 129l on discount from a big box feed supply store. Two seasons later it’s still going, all I did was dump out the gas and put 50:1 stihl hp ultra in it, imagine that.
I think husqvarna is decent but they aren’t nothing like stihl and echo. But still not bad, I wouldn’t mind trying out the 525 husqvarna. Another great video as always IHG!
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE the only thing is that I have a sthii back pack blower and a Husqvarna AWD mower and the Husqvarna back pack blower so I have the major three different ones only one I don't have is red max

The only reason I bought the second one was cause it was a lot lighter to push than my previous lawn mower. I had shoulder surgery and it didn’t heal properly and the light the mower the better.
The problem purchasing a trimmer is you don't know if it will be comfortable for you to use until after you buy and use it for a while. I feel guilty about returning a machine after I have used it a while. I have several trimmers and some are great if you are younger and stronger than I am now. Regardless what is comfortable today in 10-20 years it may not be comfortable. Even though one of mine is quite hard for me to use I would recommend it to someone else as long as they understood it is heavy. Thanks for the videos.
In answer to your question. Yes i did get a trimmer I do not like using. I got a 40 volt trimmer and I don't like it. The power isn't there, it's not balanced, and the battery only lasts 30 minutes before i have to recharge it is such a treat. A new battery costs the same as the entire trimmer too. Why did I get it? Cordless was all they had. There were no gas powered units available.
Great video! My Husqvarna has been great. I have just about every brand weed trimmer out there and they've all needed fixing but I don't mind, I enjoy fixing things.
Husqvarna is a good brand, no doubt but everyone has their own preferences! I use a 2005 Mitsubishi tu26! I must be amongst the very few who use those lol…
I’m about to buy a 330LK which is like their mid range trimmer and is apparently the only one they make now with the interchangeable attachments. Gonna buy a polesaw for it to get rid of bunch of branches I can’t reach. Hoping it does me well!
I rebuilt a carburetor on a Stihl 111 but the total rebuild kit was almost the same as a OEM carb. So, gained the experience but if had to do it over again probably go with new carb.
The way you fixed that trimmer. I didn't have an issue with it because that flaw that you saw and fixed could have happened again later on down the road if you would have fixed it without any modifications. You did a more or less a permanent fix to it. I would have done the same thing. I never used any Husky equipment but heard of the name from other channels who have fixed some models of their equipment.
well for me i would do a little bit research and check out the features on it and how it feels weight wise and the balance and of course amount of power and even the CC.s and features it has etc.
that's a good bit of research, but you really won't know until you use for 10 or 20 minutes. I have to admit this but I really like my honda trimmer but I hate using it
The factory HOP line only lasts a few years before disintegrating no matter what fuel is used, same for the Chinese line. The black line used by Echo and the other Japanese models lasts pretty long no matter what fuel. Tygon is the best yellow line.
I have a 13 yr old Echo trimmer with the original fuel lines, and it still works fine. It's never had any ethanol fuel in it, so I suspect that's why the lines are still good. Would I recommend a tool that I wouldn't use? Depends on the reason I wouldn't use it. If, like in your case, it was uncomfortable to use, then I'd recommend it with the caveat that it's uncomfortable for some people.
I have a brand new Husqvarna 130L trimmer that proceeded the 128LD and I can't get it to start I added fuel and it started but after it started and I revved it turned off and it was the same thing every time I attempted to start it again
Do you use genuine Tygon? I am thinking of buying a few different sizes, and it seems like the price goes way down if you buy in bulk, which is way more than I need. Just wondering if you also buy in bulk.
Would the efforts be the same for a 2 stroke or 4 stroke. I've got a Stanley 4 stroke ohv and after I've pushed the prime bulb a few times the motor starts but after say 20 seconds it stalls, the whole thing isn't that old and I can't find another carburettor that fits, gaskets too. What I found out on eBay is the ones for sale have the fuel pipes in the wrong direction, my snipper has fuel tank on the bottom too but the ones I found have the pipes as if the tank is on top, not sure if I should take my carburettor off to check everything as what you've done.
My biggest obstacle is replacing trimmer line, especially those with double lines. It just never seems to works right after doing the rewind. Any suggestions?
