    The only reason beginners do the quick events is that the time limits are always too harsh for slower events. Allow 2 minutes for square or 3 minutes for 4x4 and you'll have plenty of participants.

    I don't think people should care about spectator friendly events, at least at my country we are a small community and we compete because we like it and basically every competition is about the competition. BLD events are entertaining to those who like it and the fact that events are similar shouldn't be a factor and challenging on their own. Big events as well, it's only your opinion and if you don't like its fine they are similar but all completely different. Probably if you tried to get good at big cubes you can understand it's not just more pieces and only get good at one and become better at the rest. For us who do most events know the process of improvement and their own uniqueness. Again I don't think we do it for the spectators, we do it for our selves and that should be enough.
    Your tier events concept is completely uselless, organizers already chose what type of competition they are doing and you don't want to compete on a event then just don't pick it. That's why there are competitions like FMC Americas, the competitions with BLD events, and competitions based on the area where it would be held.

    Besides clock, I think every event has it's place in the WCA.
    You have to remember that even though the competitions are moving towards spectator-friendliness, and being a "spectator sport", but you have to remember that a lot of the competition is also for the competitors themselves, and the interest of those who appreciate puzzles for the theory and what makes them a puzzle. You can't forget that it's not all for the cameras and for the ones watching.
    And honestly, if we remove those longer events and make it mainly focused around events that take less than 5 seconds or so, we have effectively made the equivalent of a cupstacking competition.

    • @CubeMasterYT
      @CubeMasterYT  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think cup stacking is very different in that it's the same relative pattern every time, but even smaller cubes like 2x2 have very unique solutions. I understand the WCA not being fully a spectator sport, but I think that would be a great future for cubing for a bigger audience and more sponsors. My argument isn't really for small events but more for larger events, I think medium length events are still good for the sport :)

    I think that before someone develops an opinion on these things, they should practice that event for a good amount of time. I think just saying to remove events because just one person is the best is invalidating the effort that the record holders put towards these events.

    • @CubeMasterYT
      @CubeMasterYT  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my opinion, while I do have biases, you don't need to do an event so much to have an opinion on the event, since I'm judging them not on how much I like them but rather how much they fit (for example, I'm not a fan of 2x2, skewb, and FMC but think they still have a place in the WCA). Also sorry about being unclear in the video, but I think people dominating events is not a problem but more of events being so similar that dominating at one easily makes you the best at the other. About redi cube.
    Redi is intuitive, but unlike clock, there is place for development of your solves.
    I personally use 3 methods depending on scramble.
    1st method: LBL - intuitive method.
    Step 1: First Layer
    Step 2: Pairs (solve F2L edges and orient top corners)
    Step 3: ELL (not just sledges, a bit harder - there are simple algs for Z and H perms. Pretty intuitive tho)
    2nd method: TAL (Two Adjacent Layers)
    Step 1: First Layer
    Step 2: Adjacent Layer (solve 2 pairs + edge in between)
    Step 3: L5E (you orient last 2 corners with 2 moves and do one alg for l5e)
    3rd method: Top First (yep, strange, I dont use it often, but its kinda fun)
    1st step: Top (1 corner, 3 neighbouring edges, and 3 neighbouring to them corners)
    2nd step: TL (Two Layers) - use this top to solve two layers like after the 2nd step of TAL
    3rd step: L5E (same as TAL)
    And there of course could be more room for improvement - some things with tons of algs like ZB in 3x3. And in clock there can be no algs at all.

    Honestly I think clock should stay. in my opinion clock is very spectator friendly because One its very fast, and Two for what you said about people not being able to see whats going on, that adds a factor of intensity because spectators know someone will finish any second and they dont know who it will be.
    Also, you said scrambles take forever, but they are acually really fast because you scramble in a pin order that stays the same every single scamble. i personally scramble clock in under 20 seconds and I dont practice it much
    By the way you dont need 3D print cube covers just litterally use anything big enough to cover it thats easy to take off
    anyways, to end, I enjoy clock, and i dont think it should be removed

    About what you said about removing big cubes, why not just take out 6x6 and 7x7? If your problem is that they are all the same, you can just remove almost every big cube. Also, 5x5 is very spectator friendly and doesn’t take too long. So I don’t think it makes sense to remove ALLLLL the big cubes

  • @ScotttheCubeGuy
    @ScotttheCubeGuy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    EDIT: I see now that later on in the video you say they shouldn't be removed and should be tiered instead, but to be fair you didn't make it clear at all that you didn't want them removed in the first 11 mins of the video lmfao
    One thing which I highly disagree with is the sentence: "the events that need to go are..." we do not need to remove more events. Feet made sense, but Clock is having better hardware now and also more people practice it. it is also not looked down upon by non speedcubers, (feet had this problem where the general public were disgusted by it) so the one event that makes the most sense to remove, shouldn't be removed. hence we shouldn't remove 7x7, or 5BLD etc. I think it's absolutely stupid to suggest that we should remove an event with more competitors than clock. Even though 6x6, 7x7, and 5BLD might be a little similar to other events, they were introduced to the WCA early on and removing them would basically just be a complete kick in the balls for people who now practice them and like them. Also can I mention that 5BLD introduces +-centers into the solve and they have to be solved a little differently with different commutators. also the only competitions where clock is almost mandatory to be held is Championships and big events. the big events tend to have a LOT of time with strict cutoffs especially for clock so no problem there. Championships also deal with it okay.
    Any talk of removing events is honestly gonna end in disaster, we should add events like FTO. I believe the WCA has room for about 2 new events. Also have you ever even watched advanced 4BLD solves? It is honestly so satisfying to watch. any argument to remove an event because it's not a spectator friendly event is just a bad arguement. Would you rather a fun event that isn't spectator friendly (clock as an example) or a not fun event that is spectator friendly (possible Ghost cube might be an example because of how hard it is)
    Your argument about how we should remove 4/5 BLD because they are not exciting to watch are bad, because with that logic MBLD should go straight out the window. (it can be up to like 50 mins of memo lol and it's just 3x3 BLD over and over again)

    Super late, but I have this great idea: 3x3 no inspection. It's like 3bld, but not blind. You start the timer, then take off the cube cover and solve normally. This would make 3x3 interesting again, as I feel the pros are now one-looking f2l, and ll is just easy to recognize.

    This isn’t an event but they should introduce multiblind average if they have enough time
    Make a mean of three for:

    The amount of cubes submitted
    The amount of time taken
    For example:

    6/9 42:20
    10/11 59:59
    Mean without rounding:
    7.66/10 52:49.33

    I dont fully agree with your thoughts... even the methodes on 5x5-7x7 are the same, the feeling to hold and complete the cube is a different one. A 7x7 still is spectator friendly, bc a pro 7x7 competetor will not take over 5 minutes on a 7x7. (even tho an interested spectator would spend the 5 minutes) 6x6 is lucky at some points but in the end the ability to spot pieces on big cubes gets worser the bigger the cube is. And thats why a 7x7 is something different than a 5x5 or a 6x6.

    • @CubeMasterYT

      The feels of those events are obviously different, but since the methods themselves are way too similar I think they're too similar, which is also shown by similar rankings in those events. Also, I'm sure many people enjoy watching big cubes but the majority of people I don't think do (people are much more likely to watch a full 3x3 WR than a 7x7 WR video)

    I agree with some points made here, however I don’t think any events should be removed. I don’t like clock personally, and don’t think it should have ever been added. However I realize that there is a community behind the event and it should not be removed. I personally love big cubes (especially 6 and 7) and would hate to see them go. I can see the point in tier 2 events, but all current events should stay tier 1. Team blind is a good idea in theory, however 2 good bld solvers could just teach each other their bld method. They would 1 look in inspection and destroy everyone with 7-8 second solves. Your point about redi cube being too intuitive can just as easily be applied to pyra, skewb, and 2x2. I think it would be a good event to add

  • @Aneurin_Hunt
    @Aneurin_Hunt 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For 6x6/7x7 the centres are distinct enough for me to consider it worth keeping both maybe you don't agree because you just make bars execlusicely. Clock is the only event I can see being removed to be honest. The argument to remove 5BLD 6 and 7 can also be applied to OH but not one wants OH to go. I don't think any event needs removal.
    The spectator friendly events are not 2x2, Pyraminx and Skewb. They are too short. You can't see what is going on. Honestly just being told the times as the happen without watching is the same experience. The shortest length where it is not too short is Square 1 and 3x3. There is a point where an event is too long to be spectator friendly but that varies. What about FMC? If we focus on spectators the event will have to go but it is very unique. All events are repeative to some degree the short events are the worst. They have 2 steps. Sq1 is all algs so that is too, but you are baised about that.
    For new events FTO is the only viable suggestion I have seen. No more short events should be added we have enough short event for the kiddies.
    For team events I honestly think team BLD is shit. It hard for me to explain but I think the way it would devolop would make it boring to do and watch and result in a event that isn't distinct. The calling system would be standardised meaning it a blindfolded person hearing a cross solution and then 6 words for f2l oll and pll cases. This would not be interesting to watch. It would only be about as distinct as OH which already uses the same method as 3x3 speedsolving just with a slightly different approach to ll.
    I think team BLD has a place as a fun unofficial thing to do with friends. Also how would you deal with NRs? I would say you would have to have people from the same countries competing together or else the records get messy. Which could be a little unfair on someone who is the only person from their country completing. Relays could work.
    Athletics(track and field for the Americans) is a sport to look at to model cubing after for spectators. Cubing isn't a team "sport" is an individual the only good to team events are Nations cup type of events.
    Lastly new formats need to be fairly simple. People suggest 3bld should change from bo3 and the mbld scoring system should change. But the simplicity of these is a benefit. Non cubers can understand it easily we don't want to lose that.
    PS Ivy is a even worse idea than 2bld it only has 30000 scrambles so a repeats are common and God's number is 8.

    • @CubeMasterYT
      @CubeMasterYT  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! Thanks for leaving your opinions. For 6/7 and 5BLD, I have done all of the events a lot, and don't just do bars lol so I do know that each of those do introduce new centers. However, the methods are pretty much the exact same, and they are the events that have the most similarities compared to any other events the WCA. I think small events are good because they are much closer and are quicker to watch, not really because you see what they're doing (which I don't think is completely necessary). For team events, I think it brings in something very unique into the WCA that most people would be really happy with. I get that there are some good points with some problems with it, but still think if that can be worked around it would still be great to watch and even better to compete in. For formats, I don't quite mean different scoring systems, but rather things like head to head which I think would create a better spectator sport :)

    4bld and 5bld are pretty much the same, I agree, but very different from 3bld, so I'd keep at least 4bld (it's also one of my favourite events so I'm a bit biased): memo isn't too long, and it's exciting to see the execution. Mbld same thing, watching the execution is great (of course no one watches full memo). I agree on what you said about clock (no one sees what's going on), but it's a unique tps event, funny to practice in my opinion. I disagree on 6x6 and 7x7, they're not similar to 5x5, centers are much more creative. Maybe I'd remove 7x7, but 6x6 in my opinion should definitely stay. I don't do fmc, it's the least spectator friendly event, but I underatand why it's there, so I'll keep it for people who enjoy doing it.
    I won't add any event for bigger or lower puzzles already in (so no master pyra, skewb, no kilominx, no square 2 or anything else similar), in my opinion big cubes are worth only for nxn (which are kinda the main twisty puzzles). I'd add instead popular non wca puzzles such as redi cube, 2x2x3 maybe, maybe some more shape shifting puzzles (but not 3x3 shape modes, just puzzles with different mechanism). Fto could be nice as well.

I think maybe a 4 mbld could be interesting but idk if it should really be added. I like the idea of 2 bld because it would be a good intro blind event for newer cubers but if you’re cracked at 2x2 you could just one look it so definitely tier 2 event, however a more common one bc it’s just quick. I think bumping clock to tier 2 makes sense. Idk about the team stuff I feel like it’s good community building but just kinda exists outside the nature of cubing and should stay just as a for fun event not even tier 2. For 3x3 and maybe some other events the 1v1 is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

      Well technically blind people can solve in the WCA, if you read the regulations you can see that they have a section that explains if you are blind you're allowed to have texture for each side as long as they also have colors so the judge can verify that the cube is solved without struggling with it
      Although I do think it would be nice to have mirror blocks as an event as it would also give blind people another event to look forward to, and although it's basically the same as 3x3 the solve does feel a bit more challenging and it would be fun to compete in

    whats the point of removing events, like if u don't like it js don't do it imo. and like ion think the arg abt screwing up the schedule is valid, like any event can do that and u can organize to make sure that doesn't happen with like stricter cutoffs. and worlds and major finals are more entertaining with more events, opening up wca live to see the results in 17 diff finals is definitely pretty cool. also clock, i think clock is a rlly good event for many reasons. 1)the barrier to entry is rlly low, like 2 or pyra, very very easy to solve and make cutoff (usually) 2) The skillset required is very diff from other events, skills from clock arent transferable. So podiums and stuff are really unexpected, caleb isn't even like sub 15 on 3x3 but is rlly rlly good at clock. this motivates a lot of ppl who may not think they can be world/national class in other events but maybe they can in clock 3) Even world class people don't know any algs u don't need to learn anything much to be good

    Clock: it’s hard to organize and it’s not a good spectator event. Also it’s not a cube or geometric themed in any way.
    Feet: it’s disgusting and not really fun to watch
    Reasons some things should stay:
    6x6 is a way harder version of 5x5 which means it’s more competitive. Its not that long and you really need only one long event.
    What to add:
    Kilominx it’s a good puzzle, it fits, it’s not to long or short, it’s in a good speed like 3x3 or squan where it’s not stupidly short like 2x2 pyra or skewb and it’s not really long like 5x5 or 6x6.
    Master Pyraminx a harder longer Pyraminx I imagine it will take as long as maybe squan but I’m not sure
