Definitely need a video about how to actually hand these inside cabients/install the baseplate and get good alignment and angles on the open and close of the cabinet door.
Exactly ! Only half of the job on this video, what about the second half where you are locating the other halves of these hinges inside the cabinet and then finally completing the job by hanging the cabinet door !
Thanks Jason for your video. I was really worried about doing it myself, but I did exactly what you demonstrated & my concealed hinges are installed perfectly, and without the expense of a jig. I did it; phew. Thank you!
Does the 7/8" inset distance change with 1/2" overlap door, or inset doors? How to determine different inset distances for different door thicknesses and overlay dimension?
You said you would bring your measurement out "about" 7/8 inch. I'm about to fit HOME half overlay hinges. Is there not a definite distance to mark from the edge for each make of hinge? The packet my hinges came in has no measurements diagram, but only mentions the 35 mm for the cup. Thanks very much
Video was great... but you only covered half the problem. OK so now I have one half the hinges in. Next comes the critical alignment into the cabinet box... but you stopped before we got to the part.
Btw, after watching your video, I used your method to install these hinges in a cabinet without spending any money on a “jig”. That would have been a waste of money! Thanks
not going to lie. Not looking forward to trying to drill 1 3/8" into Melamine. would love to your tips/tricks on how to install door onto the actual cabinet. p.s. love the relaxed delivery of your message. good camera presence.
Cant seem to find a good video of how to actually install the door to the inside of the cabinet. Once the hardware is placed into each side it seems like they have to clip into each other. I find this to be a difficult process, one of mine fell out and I can't get it back in. Ended up removing the top hinge and now I can't get any of the two back on. On most videos you just see the person pressing and they're done. I've tried to press in many different ways and adjust before pressing in different ways but they don't go in. Please help.
I need help. 😫 trying to replace all my cabinet hinges because the ones that came with my cabinets are cheaply made. They are snapping. However mine seem like they have some type of riser which is making it difficult for me to chose new hinges.
I am wanting to make my own doors and drawers. No design or routing work, just plain and I will paint them. What kind of wood do you suggest? Plywood?? I know I will have to sand quite a bit
A significant part of this video is missing: how to line up the hinge mounting plates to the frame and actually mate the hinge with the plate where everything lines up correctly, so the word "install" in the video title is a bit misleading. Is there another video that completes the installation?
I plan on picking up a vix bit for drilling the pilot holes using the same Blum hinges. How deep do they drill? My cabinet door and frame are from 3/4” plywood.
Hey Jason, this is only half of an installation, what about the other side of the hinges? My door ended up with gap.how you measured the hinges inside to avoid gaps or overlap?
Flip the hinge with the mounting plate up,,then measure from the door to the centre of the mounting plate,,usually 30mm,,but come back a few mm to,28mm,,and mark where the holes are going,(drill the holes with the screws for the mounting plate) take the mounting plate of ,and centre it on your marks and screw to the carcass ,then spring the hinge onto the mounting plate,,( best try a trial run first on a scap piece, ),,hope that was helpful,,👍🏴👍🏴
When you open the package the first thing you do is find the nearest garbage can and dump the philips head screws into it and get some screws with robertson head and save yourself some trouble with installation.
What I do is hold The door and the proper position with the hinge against the cabinet and carefully open the door and make a mark on the bottom of the plate. This works really well to get a ballpark measurement and make a spacer that will hold the hinge along with the door in the proper position to screw it in.You can also go by the manufacturers recommendation of where to put the holes but depending on if it's insane overlay etc Just seems to be the easiest way to at least get one especially when you have like 20 more doors to do after the fact.Thank you very much for watching this video I really appreciate it and I hope this helped please let me know if you have any more questions.
Doing it With jason I was also only looking for guidance on how to align the holes on the cabinet itself. The doors seem easy, it's more a matter of having the right tools. Aligning inside the cabinet seems trickier and more worthy of a video IMO
@@DoingitWithjason I thought it had the perfect amount of detail. When I took on this project, I was thinking of using a router bit or a dremel to drill out the hole. I was able to buy the drill bit at lowes for 13 bucks. I was concerned about measuring and keeping the holes centered and square and was just going to wing it :-) You made it simple and easy to measure and keep everything perfect. I have to do it tomorrow. I hope I don't screw it up. I only have 1 shot at it.
Great video, Jason. Like Harry Powers, I have seen many videos on installing these hinges, most of the time using jigs, but yours was the best, by far. It shows jigs aren't really necessary at all(maybe if you make them en masse they'd be useful?). Liked & subscribed. Also, you may -- mayyyy -- want to give links to Amazon products in different countries. I can't use your link as I'm in Canada. Cheers!
Only half of the job on this video, what about the second half where you are locating the other halves of these hinges inside the cabinet and then finally completing the job by hanging the door !
Definitely need a video about how to actually hand these inside cabients/install the baseplate and get good alignment and angles on the open and close of the cabinet door.
What about the rest of the process to actually install the “pretend door”?
Classified.
Exactly ! Only half of the job on this video, what about the second half where you are locating the other halves of these hinges inside the cabinet and then finally completing the job by hanging the cabinet door !
I agree.. That was the easy part lol
@@susannolan6292 This guy explained it great... And then didn't finish it !
Not subscribing because you didn’t finish the process… would have been an immediate follow if you did
I appreciate your cadence of "direct to the point," with a touch of "funny."
The order of installation and straight edge were very helpful, thank you.
1. measure and drill the holes
2. align both hinges with a straight edge
the tricky part is fitting the door onto the base. How do you make sure you put the base hardware on in the right spot so both parts align.
very good. would like to see the hanging part with adjustments etc.
Clear and concise, I too would like to see the next part for hanging the doors.
Yes, the part demonstrated in the video looks easy enough. Now what is the easy part to hang the doors?
Thanks, have to do one of these tomorrow. Don't want yo have to invest in a jig, or make one just for one job. This has helped me out. Thanks mate 👍
Thanks Jason for your video. I was really worried about doing it myself, but I did exactly what you demonstrated & my concealed hinges are installed perfectly, and without the expense of a jig. I did it; phew. Thank you!
Awesome! Way to go!
…”and by WE I mean ME” 😂🤣😆 love it. And then I subscribed lol. Keep ‘em coming. Appreciate the humour and honesty.
Nope. You don't suck! This was great. Would have loved to see the door hung, but this was great. Thank you!
This is the best video I’ve seen on installing European hinges-and I’ve watched quite a few! Thanks.
Does the 7/8" inset distance change with 1/2" overlap door, or inset doors? How to determine different inset distances for different door thicknesses and overlay dimension?
I have been wondering the same
Same here
Same question
You said you would bring your measurement out "about" 7/8 inch.
I'm about to fit HOME half overlay hinges. Is there not a definite distance to mark from the edge for each make of hinge?
The packet my hinges came in has no measurements diagram, but only mentions the 35 mm for the cup.
Thanks very much
Same here! No diagram, so I have to guess? I think I'll mock a cabinet next to the frame to mark and measure the correct distance from the edge.
Ah well it got done..gonna do a corner double door next....bloody expensive Hafele
Great explanation! Very easy and good humor! I am a woman learning sone new carpentry skills and this was perfect!
Loved the video. Now need to know how to properly locate the bracket the hinge locks onto inside the cabinet. Flat wood. No shelf pin holes
Video was great... but you only covered half the problem. OK so now I have one half the hinges in. Next comes the critical alignment into the cabinet box... but you stopped before we got to the part.
What's an easy method of marking where the cabinet end of the hinge is to be mounted in the cabinet?
JIM
Btw, after watching your video, I used your method to install these hinges in a cabinet without spending any money on a “jig”. That would have been a waste of money! Thanks
4:50 That trick with the scrap is genius!

p.s. love the relaxed delivery of your message. good camera presence.
Thanks man you really helped me ,others only give measures in mm.
You forgot the most important part. Puting the hinges together! Attaching the door to the cabinet!
Cant seem to find a good video of how to actually install the door to the inside of the cabinet. Once the hardware is placed into each side it seems like they have to clip into each other. Ok thank you for that BUT what about the other end where those hinges go into?
Okay Jason, how about the second part - mounting plate installation - depth etc. etc.
:)
Thanks for the help. You may want to mention for us to make sure left or right side hinge install.
Great video, was very useful. But now I want to know how to install the mounting plates in the box with just a tape measure.
That was a great video. Love your personality and clear, concise instruction. Thank you man!
So wanted to clarify. The hinges you measured were 3” down by 7/8” in. Is that standard?
nice job jason with the video I returned the kreg jig and will try it your easy way but i don't see the links.. please advise
I love you Jason. I was about to buy $300 worth of tools to put up $30 cabinet doors
I need help. 😫 trying to replace all my cabinet hinges because the ones that came with my cabinets are cheaply made. They are snapping. However mine seem like they have some type of riser which is making it difficult for me to chose new hinges.
Cool video. 👏👏. Is the 7/8 from the edge standard for inset hinges, overlay or half overlay?
I am wanting to make my own doors and drawers. No design or routing work, just plain and I will paint them. What kind of wood do you suggest? Plywood?? I know I will have to sand quite a bit
Yes a furniture grade plywood would work great! You actually will not have to sand much at all.
All great and easy but how do you do the other part??
A significant part of this video is missing: how to line up the hinge mounting plates to the frame and actually mate the hinge with the plate where everything lines up correctly, so the word "install" in the video title is a bit misleading. Is there another video that completes the installation?
Great video. I have oak cabinets with exposed hinges. I want to keep the same oak and color. Could I take them off and do this or would it look bad?
Doing some doors now. The trick with stright stick should really help. Thanks
Apart from the archaic measurement units, this was a great video. The best I've seen which shows how to mount his style hinge.
Short and sweet straight to the point thanks! 👍🏾
I plan on picking up a vix bit for drilling the pilot holes using the same Blum hinges. How deep do they drill? My cabinet door and frame are from 3/4” plywood.
Its harder to do than you think as i found out a few years ago. So just ordered a jig £30 now its way better...
Jason for the price of the 2 bits you recommend you might just as well buy the jig kit. it is 2 dollors less.
Oh! Good deal! I didn't realize they had a kit!
What about putting it on the cabinet
Hey Jason, this is only half of an installation, what about the other side of the hinges? My door ended up with gap.how you measured the hinges inside to avoid gaps or overlap?

Excellent!! Thanks for the links, and for being so friendly and capable!
When you open the package the first thing you do is find the nearest garbage can and dump the philips head screws into it and get some screws with robertson head and save yourself some trouble with installation.
Lovely half of a video. What's an inch?
Ugh. What about the other part? I’m only half done now😩
LOL I just asked the same question.
th-cam.com/video/CsDqZGQH8II/w-d-xo.html This a video on the other half of the hinge he forgot to show us.
Gina & Steven I am asking the same. If can't do the other part correctly, we know what will happen.
Where is the rest of it? How do you hang them!
how do you fasten them to the cabinet in the right place,do you need a jig ?
What I do is hold The door and the proper position with the hinge against the cabinet and carefully open the door and make a mark on the bottom of the plate. Your video was adequate for the purpose. Thanks.
Why does no-one ever show how to actually attach the door? Does it need to be offset anywhere???
Thank you Jason, I really appreciate your video. It helped me a lot.
Ok you made it simple thanks for not wasting my time
So why not show the whole process. Finish installing the door on a cabinet.
The hard part is hanging the other part of the hinge! Otherwise nice video.
Natural brother, awesome !
Thats the easy part, how about finishing the job. The par I wanted to see was the installation to the cabinet.
Easy, quick, understandable. Thank you!
you have a universal hinge with no datasheet. how can you tell how much the off set should be? in your case it's an eighth of an inch offset.
You can go on Blum website they have that many hinges these are on page 98/99
give the numbers on cm too and it would be great if you conected the door to other scrap wood
You only completed half of the hinge install.
What about mounting it to cabinet..
So.... now, what do you do with the door??
Love this video. Huge help! Thanks!
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Just installed two cabinet doors that went in perfect using your tutorial. 👊 (I subscribed)
Nicely explained, good work sir
Great Video and right on time. You saved my ass.
Great to hear! Was the video detailed enough? I always wonder if my videos have enough details to help people per there experience

Great job !!! Chapeau
Thanks
Free for all down here, woohoo !
That was the easy part, now show how you attach the hinges to the cabinet please.
Is that Mr. Swirly behind you from "Pete & Pete?"

Very well done! Thanks!
Great stuff. Thank you.
New friend Goodluck, full support.
Thank you for enlightenment.
Great video quick and easy 👌
very good explanations
Thx you looks really easy
Why work in inches?
It would be helpful to see you install the second part of the hinge, But you knew that????
What about hanging the door?
Good video. LOL at 4:25
Get need how many inch egged side?
oops I just found them thanks again!
Why this video is incomplete. How to install plates? You never told this secret
Only half of the job on this video, what about the second half where you are locating the other halves of these hinges inside the cabinet and then finally completing the job by hanging the door !
Good info, but You hold a pencil funny and I can’t unsee that
Nice work!
Thanks Regor!
❤
Appreciate
Why don’t you show it installing it on the cabinet too plz
You only showed how to install half of the hinge. :(
Get a Kreg jig so much easier!
I have a Blum mini press, even easier!
4:25 haha I saw that! xD
