This week on Legendary Adventures, a Legend of Zelda playthrough podcast, we're getting a horse, and braving the ghost filled Forest Temple.
Legendary Adventures is a Legend of Zelda playthrough podcast. I’m exploring the evolution of the Zelda game series by playing through each game in release order, excluding spin-offs and multi-player focused releases. Each season focuses on one game in the series. Legendary Adventures was conceived and launched as an audio podcast. I am making video versions of episodes as I am able.
You can listen to all my episodes by subscribing to the podcast.

Mido: What are you? Though you wear Kokirish clothing, you can't fool me!
Link: (Wearing the Goron Tunic) SINCE WHEN DID KOKIRI WEAR RED?

One cool detail about the Forest Temple's exterior design is that it's actually shaped like a skull - the interior courtyards are the eyes and the entrance sunken into the walls is the mouth. It's not very noticeable when you actually play the game and doesn't appear on the in-game map, but supplementary depictions of Ocarina of Time's map make it more apparent.

I mean it’s believable since there are a lot of skull like enemies. Not to mention it’s in the Lost Woods , which is said to turn any adult and child into a stalfo and Stalchild respectively

Unfortunately I cannot remember how I found you Mr. Legendary Adventures. But I love your series, your unagitated voice (I mean it as a compliment) and your dedication. It is a pleasure to watch your series, for someone born in 1989 it feels more made for me than some current tubers with editing which I am unable to follow. Too fast, too much stuff on the screen, too much overacting, too much of everything. Kudos to you and your documentary style.

Usually, you mention when a recurring element or character is first introduced in these games, but you didn't point out Phantom Ganon's debut. In almost every game after where Ganondorf makes an appearance, so too will Phantom Ganon. (With an exception or two). There's also a trick to defeating Phantom Ganon's first phase. Around the room are triforce marks on the floor. If you stand on one of those, you'll be safe from his magic attacks' lightning if he manages to get one off. Plus, it gives you a good angle on most of the paintings, so its generally a better choice then standing in the center of the room anyway.

Yeah kind of an oversight on my part. I had talked about Aganihm possibly being the first Phantom Ganon, but I should have brought up this is the first truly confirmed one. I did not know that about the Triforce marks, thanks.

Those twisted passages in the forest temple messed with my brain when I was playing this the first time. I think I got myself twisted around a number of times dealing with those and the wall master / floor masters.
I’m looking forward to the water temple. I recently watched a play through using modded textures that made some of the navigation more obvious. I’m curious to see how those markers looked in the original. Twenty-five-years-ago memories aren’t a vivid as I would like.

The moblins are one of the most fascinating enemies to me, because they really feel like one of the last vestiges of Zelda 64.
The weird basic polygons with textures haphazardly pasted over them, the formulaic AI, the way they travel in a predetermined path like an old, 2D map like that...
(Seriously, their head, torso and upper arms are just low poly spheres with slight distortion and some spikes. Its weirdly inattentive and inefficient modeling compared to most models which can often do more with fewer polygons)
Though, its really interesting that if you mod them into bigger maps, such as the Gigaleak OoT maps, they can actually function in open spaces quite well. They act like a 3D version of the charging sword and board monlins from, say, Links Awakening. Except with Terminator dedication.
And they can't be Z-Targeted, and they die from the Hookshot, which is a stun weapon for all but the frailest of creatures. Its like they were made before the rules of the game were established.
And I got stuck in the Temple because it didn't occur to me to intentionally fall down the hole after the twisted room.
I didn't want to fall down holes, haha

😭- I always the quote Shiek says to meeting Link at the Forest Temple and the Fire Temple...
    > I don't really remember the quote Shiek says at the other Temple warps...
8:33 - 8:38 ---> Ah, I was wondering if you were going to mention that little fact!
Deku Nuts also work on Stalfos from time to time; Sometime it stuns them and sometimes it misses...
16:08 - 16:10 ---> Yup; That would be J0j0jetz and I sent him a link to this entire playlist of this series!

The forest temple is one that I have more memories of than the Fire Temple. Maybe because I went there first, maybe because I felt that it's winding halls took me longer to work through than the comparatively simpler Fire Temple (I apparently struggeld with it it for some time, I think it was searching for like the ONE key that would help me advance to where I got the Bow because after that I remember I had no trouble finding my way), or maybe it's just because the atmosphere in this temple was so mysterious and spooky compared to the Fire Temples less puzzling pace... and it could also be due to the boss. Phantom Ganon demanded a lot of tech and training myself to return the magic shots. Volvagia was a dragon and super-cool to look at... but then mechanically he is SUPER-simple, a real let-down to fight. So yeah- FOrest Temple over Fire Temple, says I.
What I also say- I wonder how many tried to jump the gate rather than the wall. I remember jumping the wall, and apparently I also tried jumping the gate but must have never approached it from the right angle. Always a shame when finicky controls get in the way of what could have been a really cool moment.

I’m surprised you weren’t using your shield at all when fighting the Stalfos. No wonder you died!

I'm late to the party, but I'm really loving the podcast! I hope you do Wind Waker after you Majora's Mask. Keep up the good work! 👍
For the Phantom Ganon fight when you have to shoot the paintings, you have to look closely to see which one is the real Phantom Ganon. The real one is brighter than the fake one and also you can see the eyes of him and the horse on the real one whereas they are darkened out on the fake one
